Clearblue Fertility Monitor - User Club

So… anyone else here using the clear blue fertility monitor? Not the normal ovulation test sticks, but the actual monitor.

Thought we'd form our little club, exchange stories of how it's going so far, and just support each other in this seemingly hi-tech business of TTC. Gosh - what did they do in medieval times? Did Da Vinci or Galileo invent a fertility monitor that was widely used, but yet to be uncovered? Wink

Anyway, here are my stats:

  • First cycle of using monitor;
  • Started testing CD6 as expected from the manual;
  • High on CD7, and am a little surprised.

Seriously wondering whether peeing after midnight on CD5 caused hormones to be low on CD6, hence machine 'thought' (detected, more like) there was a surge on CD7???

OR maybe this is ONE of the reasons why TTC was difficult - never did the deed before CD12 before.

OR the machine is still adjusting to my system.

What about you?

Juniper how long is your cycle normally? Mine is currently 32 (used to be 28 before my miscarriage). This cycle I tested from day 8 and had 7 high days before peak yesterday and today (CD17 & 18) which fits with a 14 day LP. If your cycle is over 30 I wouldn't worry too much yet

JuniperJones · 07/02/2014 14:13

Mrs am wondering if that's my problem this month. Either too much or too little wee on the stick. Sad Hate having to start-stop-start first thing though for the cup option. I am not awake enough!

MrsNutjob · 07/02/2014 14:08

Hmmm, that's frustrating, SnowBells. I did have one cycle when it did that, but when I looked at the stick, it clearly showed a dark line. I tried a normal OPK and it was positive too. So are you checking the lines on the sticks as well? There's two lines. The one nearest your hand is the one that gets dark when you're peaking.

I also found I got more consistent results when I peed in a plastic cup and dipped the stick in - I can't pee in a straight line and peeing straight on the stick often messed up the lines (sorry if that's TMI!)

SnowBells · 07/02/2014 13:45

It doesn't give me any peaks!!!! 14 days of highs though.

I think I may be one of those for whom this little machine does not work.

Hi All - I've been using the monitor for about 6 months now, and I've found it really useful (I was forever missing ovulation with OPKs).

Annoyingly, though, it often gives me a high straight off the bat from day 6 or 7, so while the peak bit is useful, the high reading doesn't help me any. I only had one cycle where it gave me a couple of highs like it's supposed to.

Anyone else had this? I'd be really keen to get it fixed given what someone said earlier about the second peak reading sometimes being too late...

JuniperJones · 07/02/2014 11:34

Hi all, I think you've just been talking about this. I've just got my sixth high, I am on cycle three with the machine and wondering what's going on. I'll keep going but if there's no ovulation does it just keep giving you highs?

blamber · 05/02/2014 22:17

I think one odd cycle won't do anything. I had a weird cycle once and the times after that it was fine. In the next cycle it will start afresh with measuring your hormones.

sorry, I meant sparkle, not parsley

blamber · 04/02/2014 16:56

parsley, the monitor gives you a high when it indicates a rise in oestrogen. It can be that this cycle you had an initial rise, but then a drop, then a rise and ovulation. This can happen now and again.

The monitor will have picked up the rise, gave you highs, but never detected a peak in Lh. It then 'gave up' on finding a peak, because it thinks you have reached the end of your cycle.

After this, you got your LH surge.

The monitor wasn't wrong, but does put a limit on how long your cycle can be. It therefore can sometimes miss ovulation when your having an out of character long cycle.

SnowBells · 03/02/2014 23:47

Had to reset the machine this month since I started this thread. I missed out on one cycle in December as was away on business and forgot to pack the monitor. So far, I have only ever had highs, and no peaks, which is quite upsetting.

Sparkle I think it's common to not get a high in the first month.

Hello! Thought I'd join 'the club', I'm brand new to these forums, started TTC in December but because I'm a massive control freak I thought I'd buy a CBFM for this cycle
Really glad I did because there was me thinking I was ovulating on day 14 like 'normal' only to get 2 peaks-CD19 and 20. . . was really thrilled to get any peaks at all in the first month of use as I had heard it's common not to
Now I'm just waiting. . . af due on Thursday so hoping it won't appear!

The sticks are £15 on amazon at the moment which is a about £10 cheaper than Boots.

Thanks Parsley. Yes it is shit. 2 MC's , one amazing DD5, now two Mc's again. Hope it will be third time luck again although am at the upper age limit lol .

Hermione - do you def ovulate every month? Not sure why has not shown you a peak? I have 28 day cycle so always thought my peak was day 14 but now realise it more like day 12. Sounds like due to the frequent bd you still have a chance? Good luck!

Hermionewastherealhero · 01/02/2014 10:15

Hi all, this is my first month using the monitor. Our 2nd month trying to conceive baby number 2, I am very inpatient so started using monitor (it has been in cupboard since getting BFP for DS the day the monitor arrived last time we were ttc!)
I have a question though, I have been getting a high result since Monday, we have dtd 4 out of 5 days, I expected a peal this morning, day 17, but still high. Husband has gone away for 3 days for work conference, have we missed our chance this month? My cycles are always 28 days

Parsley2506 · 31/01/2014 21:58

duvet so sorry about your MCs. I've been there, it's shit!

Parsley2506 · 31/01/2014 21:54

sparkle that is weird. I've been wondering myself what the 'high' days are actually indicated by? Is it triggered by hormones/the stick or is it just the machine 'predicting' when it thinks the ovulatory period might be coming? If it's the latter, the machine might just have got it horribly wrong and you could stick with normal OPKs for a few days to see if you get a late OV this cycle?

duvetheaven · 31/01/2014 21:48

Thanks for the tip onelifeonechance. Been using the CBFM since September and rate it! Have had two conceptions (Sept and Dec/Jan) but sadly lost both as early MC.Hope 2014 is my year. I get my test sticks from accessdiagnostics.co.uk - I think they're a bit cheaper.

Thanks blamber. I'm just grasping at straws a bit cos it's taking so long but the fact we did get that one BFP makes me hope that this time around we can get there a bit quicker (and keep it this time, please).

Such a stressful business sometimes!
