Here we go again.....

The smallprint –
Berries have a strict entrance criteria (TTC #1, over 30, TTC for 6+months, NO instadiffers, must have a special pot) and def no mention of baby dust or baby dancing UGH !!! Ooooh aren’t we strict!

Oh and on top of everything I've just rung the hospital to book my HSG and there's no way they can fit me in this month because of the Xmas break so have to wait another whole cycle to get that done. So basically if we're lucky enough to get referred by March we'll be starting IVF in September 2015

barking pretend I didn't mention the musical.....just seen your post. I posted nothing about it. At all. Nothing.

CharmingCats · 20/12/2013 15:10

Hello! I'm so sorry for being AWOL. The end of term was hard work! Off now, so will be a good berry, if you don't mind me being here. May climb aboard the copter, if I feel brave.
Welcome saz. You've come to the right place!
How did the musical go, barking ? Sorry if you've already put that, I haven't caught up yet.
I've been baking today. It's very therapeutic.

happylass · 20/12/2013 14:47

Welcome Saz. Come in and make yourself at home. I understand your trepidation with seeking help but as lady has mentioned it's better to get the ball rolling asap as, as I found out yesterday, the NHS are in no rush to offer treatment. In one breath the consultant was telling me that my eggs are getting older by the day, then in the next breath he informs me that there is an 18 month waiting list for IVF!!
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that's ridiculously long and thanks for your suggestions ladies. A bit of Googling has revealed that there used to be 2 NHS units providing IVF for South Wales - one in Cardiff and a private clinic that the NHS was using in Swansea. In April WAG ended the contract with the private clinic in order to open a new NHS unit in Neath, only it didn't open for several months. Meaning that for a good while Cardiff was the only IVF provider in the area and as a result there is now a huge waiting list. Bloody great! Article did say that during this time patients were being referred to Bristol so wondering if this would be an option for us? Anyone know how I would go about that? Not even sure it's bee possible as it's outside Wales and think the health service here is governed by WAG. Worth finding out I suppose....

Welcome Saz. Your practising with the gloves off is a much better term than ntnp and made me Grin

ladybunnikins · 20/12/2013 13:18

MrsW just seen your gorgeous wedding pic on your profile!

ladybunnikins · 20/12/2013 13:16

Welcome, Saznut, you've been TTC about as long as me (Jan 2012). Sorry you've had a rubbish year, hopefully 2014 will be better. Get yourself and DP to the GP for your results/semen analysis/FC referral ASAP. Sorry to be bossy but the FC referral/investigation/treatment process is a slow one for most people!
I've used the CBFM, I found it nice and clear to use, seeing the digital egg at ovulation was a lot easier than squinting at sticks. However, since the sticks are pricey and my cycles are irregular, I've gone back to the cheap OPKs from amazon.
I do recommend temping, I use the fertilityfriend app and if nothing else it helps me predict when the next AF is due.

Maybe we need a new list?

Lady, 34, TTC since Jan 2012, unexplained, chemical after IVF#1, awaiting IVF#2

Saznut · 20/12/2013 12:43

good afternoon.
was wondering if you had space for a little one?
im 35, been ttc since dec 2011, although in the beginning it's was more a case of practicing with the gloves off. in jan I went to see my gp when sent me off for blood tests (one during af then obe end of month) but I never went for my results. a case of being a chicken but also oh asked me to wait a bit more to see how nature goes. This year we have had a fair bit of stress, family bereavement etc so I like to tell myself we are really starting now. I have a clear blue fertility monitor that I'm going to brush off the dust and use this month. never temped before, may try that next. I hope you don't mind the life history, I have been reading this thread since this one started and feel I know you all. Have shed some tears and laughed, worried a bit about nakedness in this weather. I was holding back posting because I was two days late and thought how rude it would be to say hi and bye, but lo and behold here she is riding her sleighSad
at least on a plus I can get merry and not try to think of reasons why I'm not drinking (we're quite a party lot) lol.
thanks and hope to join the gang
ps. thanks to mrs w who found me on a rubbish thread and recommended this one to me Smile

Gillster · 20/12/2013 10:38

MrsW - as long as they take blood 7 days before arrival of AF then the timing should be right. It took me three go's to get the timing right.

mrswalker13 · 20/12/2013 08:20

Morning all... And happy last day of term to teacher berries!

Feather hope your acupuncturist appt goes well - barking I think you were admirably restrained, I'd have smacked her Angry

Kitty hope you were equally restrained with your DH... Mine almost spent the night of his party sleeping in the bus depot (he fell asleep en route home) but made it eventually to sleep face down in the hall.

First day of leave for me but still up and on the bus - third blood of the week - and, I suspect, pointless anyway. These were meant to be day 21, 23, 25 bloods and instead they are day 22, 1 & 3. Though that in itself probably suggests the concern about my progesterone level is well placed.

But! On the bright side, I can now accept all offers of alcohol and spend the festive season marinated.

Gillster · 20/12/2013 07:39

I'm not hungover - yay! Had a massive Pizza Express lunch and stuck to G&Ts and was in bed by midnight. Have today at work and the off until 9th Jan Grin. Off to States on Boxing Day so can't wait.

Your IVF waiting list sounds very long Happy. From memory I submitted our initial paperwork in August, I had my bloods and scan and DH did his stuff at start of Sept. They then said it would be 12 weeks before we spoke to someone but we were seen in 9. Assuming I'd not had the fibroid issues and given the Christmas break earliest start would be Jan so can't complain really. If I was a bit younger then potentially I'd have to wait 4 cycles before being treated ( this depends on how many people call on a specific day) but given the very narrow timeline of me recovering from the op and starting treatment before I'm 40 I've just been told (literally the nurse has just called from the FC at 7:30am) that I can call in Jan when I know my dates to pre book my treatment for Feb. Smile

So I'm going to make the most of Christmas and the holiday although not drink too much and will be tee total from 9th Jan (for hopefully the rest of 2014!)

I suppose I'd better get up and get ready for work. Laters!

CatsCantFlyFast · 20/12/2013 03:04

Kitty welcome to the wide awake club Grin (tho my DH isn't to blame)

BlindKitty · 20/12/2013 02:45

Wow I'd love my Dh to jump me lol. I always make the first move! Although atm I kinda just want to murder him for waking me up drunk, again, on a work night. Oh and this time bringing his mate to stay so I can't even yell at him and storm off to the spare room Xmas Angry

Bunnygirlie · 19/12/2013 22:57

barking can't believe your acu person, sounds more like a lecturer that you do not need!!!

aquarius glad the op went well

happy what a shitty waiting list! Sounds like you need to move to my neck of the woods.

Hi to everyone else!!!

As for me, Christmas party Friday night and I am gonna get smashed Xmas Grin

Oh and this will make you chuckle, the other morning DH tried to jump me, seemed quite perturbed when I declined, seriously though, early morning sex before work when I'm not ovulating, is he having a laugh?!? Wink

BlindKitty · 19/12/2013 22:06

feather know what you mean, those 2 days seem like a lifetime! Knew I should have booked earlier annual leave!

FeatherFeather11 · 19/12/2013 21:30

Agree with everyone re acupuncturist barking - when it comes down to it, you're paying someone for a service rather than to lecture you about your exercising. Seeing as you've come away from your first meeting feeling the way you do, it's probably wise to look for someone you click with and who gets you. This sort of thing isn't a one size fits all scenario!

happy 18 months is ridiculous. Maybe go see your gp and see if they can ask your FC for you to be referred to another clinic nearby with a shorter waiting list? I know they sometime do that in London but not sure where you are. Also, smoking pregnant women infuriate me. Grrr! So unfair!

aquarius glad you're well!

Re nhs ivf, I was under the impression that you don't get more free ivf after you have your first child via nhs ivf? I'm probably wrong, but seem to remember a lot of women on MN complaining about the lack of support for secondary infertility...

gill hope you went for it at your Xmas do! One night on the sauce is not a bad thing!

Temp was 36.1 this morning. Have to email the acupuncturist at 7am tomorrow with my three temps and confirming a negative hpt - I may have to be there for a 9am session, but she'll let me know! Also, signed the hsg request form today at the FC.

Oh god, two more days of work and then 9 blissful days off. I don't know that I have the strength to make it!

xx

RevoltingPeasant · 19/12/2013 21:15

Barking sorry but that woman sounds like a loon Shock 2 or 3 runs a week is not extreme exercise! Loads of mums run. I thn it's bollocks and you should keep doing it. Running is a great de-stresser.

Though I have been thinking myself about the role of stress in unsuccessful ttc. Two days this week I've come home from work with physical symptoms due to stress - awful griping abdominal pains - and I don't think that can be helping matters.

Funky I am so very, very sorry.

BlindKitty · 19/12/2013 18:44

barking sorry but this woman seems like a right silly bint! How dare she imply that the mc was somehow your fault. If resting so much is that important then why are pregnant women encouraged to exercise? If you had a very manual job then fair enough but you don't. Re the meat, yes having adequate protein and iron is important but I'm sure you've got a balanced diet anyway!

happy Xmas Angry @ smoking pregnant women! What is wrong with people?!!

Re dildocam, my trust wouldn't give me one either initially but I wish I'd pushed for one as it was the only thing that actually diagnosed me in the end. Failing that, you could go private. I got a quote for £95.

Re iui, yes I'm biased but I'm obviously all in favour, especially if its an option on the nhs

ladybunnikins · 19/12/2013 18:16

Merk if you had more private cycles they would know because all cycles are registered with the HFEA. We get one on the NHS so we can have 1 or 2 private cycles and still get one on the NHS (as long as they aren't successful!) If we have 3 then we don't qualify.
Barking I thought acupuncturists just stick needles in you and you come out feeling relaxed, not lecture you! Criticizing your career choice is really unhelpful. Running, for me, would definitely be strenuous exercise but if you're able to hold a conversation while running then that sounds moderate. Since she has recommended cycling is it something to do with high impact sports that she doesn't like? There is something called joggers' haematuria where runners get blood in their urine. It's harmless but maybe that's what she's on about with her kidney chi business.

BlueBirdy · 19/12/2013 15:26

Mmm, Barking sorry your acupuncture appointment was such a disappointment - I would have thought your level of exercise was fine! (But I know nothing about these things) Maybe it affects some women more than other? Have you thought about trying something like yoga/pilates? I would imagine that they are good for relieving stress and they do require control and strength, but I'm not sure if if you'd get that same feeling of freedom that running can give, but maybe it's worth a shot?

Feather that temp is also about my average pre O, after which it gradually goes up to about 36.65. Are you going to bother trying out the FF app?

Aqua good! Sounds like things went well - hope this makes a difference for you!!!

Happy that all sounds pretty crappy and huge GRRRR at prego smokers Angry That sounds like a ridiculously long waiting list! Can't you go to a different hospital that offers NHS treatment? Would the one in Bristol be too far? (That one is supposed to be top 10 in UK) I could have gone to that one but was just too far compared to the the one that is 20 min down the road. Otherwise I don't see why you couldn't try IUI while waiting for IVF? It's probably depends on where you live though, it is defo worth asking about!

Gill hope you are having a good afternoon Xmas Grin

happylass · 19/12/2013 14:01

Yes Merk I think any successful pregnancy rules out NHS IVF. Suspect IUI list may be shorter as that can be done at the local hospital where we've been today. IVF is only done at hospital in Cardiff and may well be the only place in S Wales that does it. Hence the ridiculously long waiting list Sad

OP posts:
CatsCantFlyFast · 19/12/2013 12:43

Happy that's a shitty waiting list. I dot know about IUI I'm afraid, but suspect it will be the same as IVF. I don't understand why the limit on private IVF whilst waiting. Surely you could have as many cycles as you liked and just not tell them. The only question I think might be key if what happened if you got diffed on your private IVF cycle whilst waiting for NHS IVF? Would that rule you out of NHS IVF in the future?

happylass · 19/12/2013 11:39

Glad all went well with your op Aquarius. Take care and hope you make a speedy recovery Thanks

So, just got back from the FC. Consultant was lovely if a little on the negative side (though I think he was just being realistic). Took my bloods for AMH test and ordered a HSG. Have to ring on first day of AF for HSG which by the law of sod will be tomorrow or Saturday so highly unlikely to get that done this cycle due to Christmas. No dildocam though. Is this unusual?
Really bad news though is that if AMH/FSH come back clear he will refer us for IVF. But the waiting list is 18 bloody months!?! Is that the same everywhere? Can't believe its that long. Thought it was just a couple of months Sad Did say that we are allowed 1 cycle of private IVF whilst waiting on NHS so think will definitely go for that if needs be.
He did also mention IUI but I didn't ask if that could be done whilst on the waiting list for IVF, anyone know??
Feeling a bit down after it all tbh (which I know deserves a wang as there are others far worse off). Wasn't helped by DP having a go at me about us not trying at the moment or by having to walk past the 3 pg women smoking outside the hospital Angry Angry Angry

OP posts:
Gillster · 19/12/2013 10:30

Yes those paper knickers are a treat! I also looked fab walking to theatre in gown, bottle green stockings and my Birkenstocks!

Glad the op went well. I slept loads after the anaesthetic, it actually felt quite nice. New year's BFP for sure Smile

barkingtreefrog · 19/12/2013 09:51

That all sounds very positive aqua, I think your palace of the child sounds nicely cleaned up and should be open for business pretty soon Wink .
