Hi all- so glad to hear I'm not the only one struggling with this-
I'm in exactly the same boat as you, Kristina M, in that I HATED being pregnant and more or less the first year of each of my DDs- but now DD1 is nearly 4 and Dd2 nearly 2, and by hell I'm broody- never was with either of Dds, bizarrely- got preg with DD2 so quickly after nightmare experience with dd1 simply because I thought I'd better get back in the saddle otherwise I never would.. but NOW I'm all over the place wanting a third. DH is adamant that we have a great set up at the mo, DDs civilised and easy now compared to squalling babes (and by hell mine did squall, didn't sleep, bad feeders, wouldn't take bottle so Bfed both for a year although hated it etc etc)so DH thinks I am INSANE for wanting another. We'd need new car etc etc, could end up with quins, a babe with problems; I've heard all the (many) arguments against the idea and I'm still obsessed. A friend recently said if I'm thinking about it like this now it will only get worse...but I'm a crap mum to little ones and know I would struggle like crazy with another newborn...HELP

congrats cazboldy. i quote "i am ok at the moment as my ds is only 7mnths" lucky you!

sweetkitty · 10/08/2006 15:36

Another one here DD1 is 24 mo DD2 is 6mo and I would love another one, am letting my head rule my hear though and will start ttc when DD1 is 18 mo next year.

cazboldy · 10/08/2006 15:24

thanks 3catstoo, no not yet as I have been breastfeeding and have not had a period so no dates to go on.

3catstoo · 10/08/2006 14:47

My spelling was ok, miracle !

3catstoo · 10/08/2006 14:47

None of mine slept particularly well. Still bf'ing in the night at least 3 times a night at a year (DD1 was 16 mths and still feeding heaps in the night.)
Still doesn't stop me wanting more. It's such a short time in the whole scheme of things plus I think you just get used to less sleep and constantly feeling tired.

Maybe I would think differently if I actually got pg.

Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy cazboldy (sp ?

Any ideas when you are due?

cazboldy · 10/08/2006 12:04

all of mine have been good sleepers, but my sister's little boy was a nightmare. she didn't get a full night's sleep until he was nearly 3.
each time i hyave been pg she laughs and says you won't be so lucky this time, but have been so far.
Incidentally, I won't have a chance to get broody after all as found out I am pg again yesterday. (already!)

sarahsbump, 5 weeks and already sleeping for 7 hours, that's amazing. It makes sense though that as you start getting more sleep you can function a bit better and that's when I started getting broody. Only after number 3 though. It didn't hit me in quite the same way after 1 and 2.

A friend of mine has 5 children and she makes it look so easy. Her children are all wonderful. 5 sounds scary to me though. 4 would be just fine (until I next felt broody!).

sarahsbump · 10/08/2006 07:40

No answers im afraid but im broody again and DS is only 5 weeks old!! I just look at him and want a houseful it does help that he is such a good baby though and already sleeping for 7 hours at night so i keep telling myself the next one might not be so good to stop me lol x

justamum · 09/08/2006 17:59

sleepycat, it was me with the 4 mnth old. i think it is because my dd is so utterly scrumptious that i keep thinking about having another one, i was exactly the same with my ds. I think its because I know I probably won't have anymore, DH is happpy with one of each and practically speaking we can't afford it. I would have had a big brood if I could, still would if the opportunity comes up-who knows!

3catstoo · 09/08/2006 14:13

Juule, you must be superwomen to have 9. I know people used to have loads of children but not so much now.

cazboldy · 08/08/2006 19:43

ok sorry must have missed that one!

sleepycat, thats what I said, " I am ok at the moment as ds3 is only 7 months" who knows maybe I won't get broody anymore, my friend might be right but I doubt it!

sparklemagic · 08/08/2006 18:19

wow, I just love mumsnet! It is so illuminating to hear this stuff...you ladies will all think I am some sort of hormone deficient freak, but I have NEVER been broody and I don't know what it feels like to be broody!!!!

when we started ttc our DS, who is now 4, it was more a decision of OK, lets go for it as I know I want a CHILD; I have never really fancied babies much and didn't have a hankering for one at all. It was children-y things that I felt all fuzzy about; reading to them, talking to them and finding out their own views, taking them to their various hobbies or whatever;

when DS arrived I was literally stunned by my feelings for him and I LOVED cuddling my baby; I was/am ridiculously maternal and protective and nurturing and I LOVED every minute of his babyhood. But I have never even once, wanted to do it again!

I feel like some sort of third sex, broodiness must be something real women get!

I am ok at the moment as my ds3 is only 7 months, but this does worry me.
A close friend said to me that "you know when you have had enough" because you won't feel broody anymore.
I am 24 with 4 children and could quite possibly rival the little old lady who lived in a shoe if I don't find out how to stop wanting more!
Dh says 6 max!

cherrypie556 · 08/08/2006 17:01

Iam am so broody aswell, i already have three lo's. aged 4,2 and 6 months and we are going to be TTc very soon. I feel more broody after having mu youngest then i ever did with the other 2. I only ever wanted 3 kids but now looks like to be 4, and what if iam still broody? arghhhhhh lol

sandcat · 08/08/2006 16:36

I have 4mth dd and really would have another tomorrow. Is it too soon ?

3catstoo · 07/08/2006 11:03

I would love to know the answer.
I have 3 but would love one more. DH has not given in despite my 12 months of pressure. It hasn't gone away since starting over 18 months ago.
At first I didn't mention it thinking it would go away. After 6 months I told DH as generally I did not get this broody when trying for the others. This is overwhelming me though. I'm obsessed.
I too have looked at the M/C site and maternity clothes. Have even gone as far as measuring up to price cots/ beds etc for another baby.
Sleepless nights don't put me off. I've gone through it with 3 children and that hasn't put me off so the thought of 24 hours with a newborn certainly won't make it go away!

Let me know when you find an answer.

justamum · 05/08/2006 23:57

can't offer any advice, but i'm exactly the same, my dd is only 4 months and I also have a ds 2.6 and i'm getting really broody again. Practically speaking we can't afford another one and my dh doesn't really want any more now we have one of each but i am one of three and have always really wanted 4 children. I keep kind of hoping it will happen by accident but I think that really would put my marriage at risk as my dd was a genuine accident and I think a second accident especially as I am on the mini pill would be pushing it. I keep hoping we win the lottery or that dh finds a fantastic new job that means I can give up work altogether and then it wouldn't matter if we had another one or even two. the ironic thing is that I don't like being pregnant particularly as I get really sick and suffer from horrendous migraines all through! i don't think there is an answer really & does anyone else feel really selfish wanting more when there are people out there really struggling to have their first?

JennyLee · 05/08/2006 19:47

I'm the same every few onths it becomes too much and I stop taking my pills then, after nothing happens I start back on them again, am back on them at the moment as I know I am not stable enough housing, money and relationship wise and my parents would kill me if I had another but still get times where i just want a baby and stop taking my pills for months on end, never concieve anyway and it took 3 years to get ds, wish I could stop getting broody or as I call it The Baby Madness

LucyJones · 05/08/2006 18:46

look after a newborn for 24 hours
