Azure - since I came off the pill in August my cycles have been 28, 52, 28 and 32 days. Now this one. I have seen2 doctors who said 'oh well, you'll now when you have ov'd cos you will af 14 days later' and 'we don't undertake any type of testing ntil you have been ttc for 2 years'.

Feel like I am stick in limbo.

I have read other threads about irregular periods, just don't know what to do for the best.

Even looked on thre Bupa website to see if there is anythig they can do (I don't think there is).

Azure · 26/02/2004 10:06

Mum2Ela, what is the longest CD you have had prior to this one? Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Sorry if there is a history I'm not familiar with - it's just such a looong time. Is there an old thread on this particular situation or perhaps it's worth starting one so it may get the attention of someone who has experienced something similar?

Mum2Ela · 26/02/2004 09:40

Smellymally - Hi! I really value your help - crickey I need it! (I do like newcomers - what gave you the impression I didn't?). The thing is, cos my periods are irregulsr, I have absolutely no idea when my fertile time is! Over Christmas I spent £40 on OPK's, none of which told me I ov'd. I know we shouldn't BD ever day, its just that sometimes we don't get the opportunity for a day (friends stay over etc.) then which means then we haven't done it for two days, but if we do it everyday then when we don't have the opportunity for a night its only 1 night we have missed IYSWIM!

Anyway, when does everybody / anybody think I should test again? Last tested last Friday. Still no AF. Day 51 (ish).

bluestar · 26/02/2004 09:39

BigBird, I'm on CD23 and FF has pinpointed ov at day 19 so now 4DPO. BD on day 17/18/19 so at least we tried at the right time. My boobs have been really sore since ov and that never usually happens until a few days before AF, so fingers crossed that this month I'll get some positive news. If I am pg this month, the time of a test will be when my baby would have been due so a mixture of feelings for me.
TTC is so much like a rollercoaster of emotions and I think we all have up days and times when we just cry but I do believe that we will all get there some day and it will make the baby all that more precious. Good luck

smellymelly · 26/02/2004 09:32

Hi Mum2ela, I know i will freak you out because you don't like newcomers, but I've read all this thread and it seems you may need some help, - not too patronising I hope!!!
Ive got 4 yr old and 17mth old, 2nd one we did by the book coz I wanted to choose the sex, which worked a treat, I did temping etc. then last nov I got pregnant by accident while on the mini pill, which turned out to be ectopic, then ruptured in Paris, so I had emerg surg. and lost one fallo. tube! Recovered now, and just praying It won't hinder me when we want to try again in July.
Anyway advice is.......
DO NOT HAVE SEX EVERY DAY IN YOUR MONTH as that will lower you man's sperm count dramatically, it is very important that you limit it to fertile times, if you are able to test for them.

If anyone is interested to choose the sex of your baby let me know, as the book I borrowed from a friend was superb!

GOOD LUCK to you all, and I hope you didn't mind me interrupting your thread!!!!!!

Kay1 · 26/02/2004 09:22

BedkieF - i'm so sorry you are feeling so down but please don't be so so hard on yourself. TTC can be really stressful and putting extra pressure on yourself to lose weight too, must make it even harder - and it is so difficult to keep the motivation up when your'e feeling stressed and under pressure, probably leading to you to eat more than you want to!! I know i am drinking more than i'd like and have also had the odd cigarette (and i'm not having to face the pressure of IVF!) - it helps me feel better at the time but then i can feel s**t as i know doing those things will not help ttc. I think it's really important though to not beat yourself up about it as that ultimately will just make you feel worse - i know that's easier said than done! Seeing as your doctors are saying you could go for IVF now, you could do that and ease up on yourself about the weight loss. They're obviuosly not seeing it as a major barrier. Good luck with whatever you decide and hope you feel better soon xx

Azure · 26/02/2004 09:20

Oh BeckiF sorry you're feeling down. It's not surprising you're finding it difficult to lose weight with all this stress - don't be so down on yourself. Have you any idea what the statistics are regarding weight and IVF, i.e. if you lost a stone how much more likely is IVF going to be successful? I would imagine being relaxed (as much as is possible) rather than upset with yourself would be as important. Big hugs to you - I wish I could help.

BeckiF · 26/02/2004 09:19

Thanks Panda - they tell me that the egg collection would be much harder because of my fat tummy and that I may not absorb the drugs as well becuase I am so fat ... they can be most awful! Mind you, they also told me I'd not be able to have an external ovarian scan because of my weight, and that it would have to be an internal scan. Poppycock!! The scan operator asked me to just support a little bit of my tummy and got a good scan straight away. I often wonder what basis the hospitals base their 'you-are-to-fat-to-treat' stance on?

DP says he would be nervous about me being pregnant at this weight because of pre-eclampsia etc. I just really want to have a go!! I've been trying for years and to know that a possible answer is just awaitng me is heartbreaking....on the other hand I don't to waste an attempt .... Oh the turmoil

Mum2Ela · 26/02/2004 09:17

BeckiF - sorry you feel like this at the moment. I think you need to make a edcision and stick to it - either start IVF now or lose weight.

If you are going to lose weight first - we can help you. Can you set a realsitic goal and give yourself a realistic time in which to do it? That would be a really positive start.

x

PandaBear · 26/02/2004 09:11

BeckiF I'm so sorry to hear you sounding so upset. PLease don't beat yourself up about not being able to lose the weight. Dieting is hard at the best of times but when you're feeling down, comfort eating, and drinking is always helpful (even if just for a while!)

All I can say is that I wasn't exactly skinny when I fell pregnant with DD, and I put on almost 5 stone with that pregnancy: it was a happy healthy pregnancy and resulted in a happy healthy child! If being pregnant is what you want to be - why not go for it! You can always lose the weight later - I did, it was easier when I had a small baby to run around after!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

BeckiF · 26/02/2004 09:06

Hello all - I'm so distraught at the mo. Depsperate to start my IVF which is just waiting for me, but took the decision to try and lose a few stone first. It hasn't shifted and I'm not trying to help it either. God I'm such an idiot and a lazy cow ... Friends keep telling me to go for it anyway, the hospital aren't refusing me, just recommending that I lose weight (I am very heavy) as it may increase my chances.

I don't know what to do

Azure · 26/02/2004 09:03

PandaBear - implantation bleeding perhaps??

Azure · 26/02/2004 09:03

Good morning. CD was on on the Trying to Conceive Thread...3 but I don't think we've heard from her on this thread. Is everything alright? I too would really like to know who Crossfingers is - I can't see anyone on the Due October thread who it could be. Come on, reveal yourself! Now according to my records, people on CD12-13 are Futurity, Slink and Ermentrude, with Moomin, AussieSim and PandaBear around CD18-19. I'm not too sure where Ermski is. Some of these dates are guesses, so please correct me if I'm wrong. I know for sure that I'm at the bottom of the list

PandaBear · 26/02/2004 08:46

Morning everyone. Well still feeling nauseous. Yesterday, however, I had a bit of spotting so don't quite know what it all means. Still think I'm imagining things!! Got to wait until about the end of next week until I do a HPT - assuming AF doesn't arrive in the meantime. Good luck to everyone else this month.

Mum2Ela · 26/02/2004 07:59

Azure - how did Countess Dracula get onto the spreadsheet? Did I miss something?

Does anyone yet know who Crossfingers is / was?! I need to know!

futurity · 26/02/2004 07:50

Cycle Day 13 today. Nothing on stick this morning. (I hate having to do it first thing..I am half asleep!!)

hana · 26/02/2004 02:12

at least it keeps us laughing, which is never a bad thing......! Thanks Azure!

bunny2 · 25/02/2004 22:57

Futurity, what cycle day?

ChaCha, I must be very sad then

OP posts:
futurity · 25/02/2004 22:05

Me! I am waiting for OV! Started the OPK this morning..don't expect a surge (is that what you call it?) until the weekend..will keep you posted!

ChaCha · 25/02/2004 21:51

I don't know what i'd do without this thread! Is that sad?

bunny2 · 25/02/2004 20:37

Well, blow me down ChaCha, I stand corrected.

Azure, who on your spreadsheeet is waiting for ov?

OP posts:
Azure · 25/02/2004 20:07

Ah, this is where my spreadsheet comes in! The lucky people approaching the end of their cycle (CD 25 to 22) are Kay1, CountessDracula, ChaCha, Bigbird and Bluestar (obviously correct me if I'm wrong and I'm sorry for any omissions).

ChaCha · 25/02/2004 19:59

OH NO! Well girls, i read on a website that OPK's could be used instead of HPT's, here is an extract from the website:

Another interesting thing about OPKs is that they can be substituted for home pregnancy tests. While this has not been proven, to my knowledge, I do have a friend who tried this and it indeed worked. It seems the hormones produced in pregnancy are similar to the luetenizing hormone - at least it prompted a positive OPK test result.

Thats why i tried it! Gonna try again with real HPT come Friday...fingers crossed!

bunny2 · 25/02/2004 19:52

Hello everyone, thank you for your kind messages, you are all so lovely I am fine today but have lots of pelvic cramps. I checked my chart for last month and it was identical - a few days after taking clomid I was really moody and irritable for a couple of days, then a few days of cramps and "bingo!" ovulation. So, I can only assume this is the way clomid works for me.

ChaCha, OPKs are ovulation predictor kits, like Quakcs, I assume you just did a pregnancy test (HPT = home pregnancy test). Assuming it was an HPT, I am really sorry you got a neg. It is still very early days and the hormones might not be strong enough to show on a test. I think retesting on Friday is a good idea.

BeckiF, I know lots of women who have had perfectly normal pregnancies despite their weight. Have you been told you wont get IVF until you have lost weight? That doesnt seem fair to me.

Bluestar, Bigbird, Pandabear, are you going to test?? We want some good news on this thread.

I am CD 8, where is everyone else? I am getting confused!

OP posts:
BigBird · 25/02/2004 14:45

hey bluestar...yes - i'm the same cd as you and we are both one day behind ChaCha ! I usually use CM and temps to detect ov, and usually get an ov pain but this month wasn't as definite and my temps are all over the place as i'm sick so I'm guessing cd 12. Unfortunately CD12 was our last BD day too as DH was away....so I'm not holding out too much hope. What day did you OV ?
