Ovulation agony

Pistillate · 04/10/2013 17:56

I thought I was having ovulation pain last night, but it has carried on right through today, and is really bad....

Anyone else had this? I have often identified a cramp as ovulation poin, and sometimes it has been very painful, but never lasting 24 hours.

I have always had ov pain. Sometimes it gets so bad, I cant even walk for a few hours. Saying that I havent had it for two months, so now worried I'm not ovulating

Butttterfly · 23/10/2013 20:44

my af came today but seeing a lady doctor on Saturday. I will write back with anything she says and will definitely ask about IBUPROFEN!!

Jakeyblueblue · 15/10/2013 21:24

I most definitely get ov pain. I temp so know its ov related for sure. I usually have a day of bloating and cramping which feels similar to a colic / bowel type pain. It also hurts when sitting Down, just like a previous post said, almost like jarring.

For some people, I'm guessing its normal. Smile

Butttterfly · 15/10/2013 12:36

Well CD35 here (longest ever had been 33 back in February since then it has been clockwork apart from now) and no AF here..
tomorrow my CBFM is arriving from amazon.. Pricey purchase but hopefully will clarify many things...
also when I'll go to GP next I'll request a female doctor. . hopefully female empathy will be more effective in finding out wth is going on..

RawCoconutMacaroon · 08/10/2013 22:10

Of course, it possible you have some continuing pains due to implantation- only a few more days and you at find out! Fingers crossed Smile

RawCoconutMacaroon · 08/10/2013 22:06

Pain on ovulation is not all in your head! However even when my Dh was a medical student, that was in their (quite old) books Sad. Mind you, most "female" ailments were "all in the mind" not so long ago...

Butttterfly · 08/10/2013 16:53

I have no idea.... itbwas a man, older age, quite patient with me but a touch of dismissive so I didn't dare to question him.. I went there cos of the ovaries weird twitches but in order to gain as much as possible I told him that we've been having unprotected sex for about a year... (when really wr started this september -albeit pretty intensively! !!- and since im 33 and therefore a bit paranoid about my age Sad Envy ). I just didnt want him to send me back where I came from and tell me to come in a year's time Envy
My little untruth gauged his attention however and he told me the next steps: 1. hubby needs to have his sperm checked asap. 2.once that's clear, he's gonna refer me to fertility doc.
He had me lie down and pressed on my tower tummy then said all is ok and ovaries pain mihht be caused by my psyche since I am worrying... but to take ibuprofen 400 mg 3xday when pain too bad!

I ain't gonna take no ibuprofen. .. twitches r bearable and when they're not I will bear them.

On 10/10 AF is due and that marks also 10 days since we BD like crazy (we've been BD-ing every other day though since 22/09). Strictly no known AF symptoms here and I swear that my lower tummy is burning and twitching and pulling when I lie on it or otherwise move too quickly.....
I'm so lucky to have found this thread! wanna increase my chances in every way possible ..

RawCoconutMacaroon · 08/10/2013 15:49

Shock! GP was probably more interested in curing the pain... Or maybe didn't know???

Butttterfly · 08/10/2013 15:11

well today I've heard thw the weirdest thing from my doc: when I told him of my strange twitching ovaries amd the sharp pains combined with continuous dull burn there this month, he "prescribed" me Ibuprofeb 400mg three times a day!!! im not taking any painkillers whilst ttcing....

RawCoconutMacaroon · 07/10/2013 18:47

There have been studies that show a lower conception rate - that could be due to a number of things- if the cyst doesn't breakdown and the egg is not released, then obviously no pregnancy will result, if ovulation is only delayed, sex might not take place (if the couple have been concentrating their efforts earlier in the cycle), or maybe the some other factors to do with implantation are also affected by the painkillers...

blamber · 07/10/2013 11:24

Paracetamols are fine, they won't delay ov. I knew that painkillers like ibuprofen delayed ov, but I didn't know this can actually cause problem with conception!

Everyone's ov pains are different, so don't worry. I get ov pains, and they have been quite strong. In the first cycles off the pill they would last most of the day and I would sometimes double over because the cramping was strong. It would really knack while having a wee as well. When ov switched sides for one cycle, I got back pain as well, this is normal too. This cycle the pains have been a little less intense.

If you can pinpoint it as ov pain and it stops, then I wouldn't worry. If it keeps happening at random times during your cycle, then see the GP.

RaRaZ · 06/10/2013 19:05

Paracetamol is fine in pregnancy - obviously unless your midwife or GP say otherwise for you.

NSAID: Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Smile

Pistillate · 06/10/2013 18:26

I'm saving cococunt up for a namechange!

Is NSAID like, anti inflammatory?

OP posts:
allchatnicknamesgone · 06/10/2013 18:12

Oh well, I felt so crap I took the lot. Seems I Ov'd as normal though looking at my temps.

RawCoconutMacaroon · 06/10/2013 17:59

Lol at cococunt!!!

Re paracetamol, I think it's ok but not 100% sure. I think it's the NSAID ones like ibuprofen and aspirin... But maybe avoid all of them if possible.

allchatnicknamesgone · 06/10/2013 09:12

Pistillate- sorry but your typo was one of the funniest things I've seen!!!

Coconut- wow. I did not know that. Last week just as my solid smiley appeared I had heavy cold and took maximum dosage of cold and flu capsules. Those are paracetamol. They ok?

I reckon you should do a thread name that just lets everyone know what you told us! I bet more than half the women here don't know!
Thx.

jaykay987 · 05/10/2013 22:29

Ahh...I didn't know that. Yes, I took Anadin Extra. Not that it helped with the pain!

Pistillate · 05/10/2013 22:27

Blush sorry, coconut

Pistillate · 05/10/2013 22:26

Wow, raw cococunt.... I didn't know that. I am not ttc, but glad to know that for future reference. I avoid painkillers, as I save them up for my migraines. I'm glad I didn't take them... I was tempted.

OP posts:
RawCoconutMacaroon · 05/10/2013 22:21

Jaykay- when you had the bad ovulation pain, did you take painkillers? I ask because ibuprofen, aspirin, taken just before ovulation can cause failure to ovulate. This unruptured follicle syndrome may be a cause of infertility and delay in conception in women because its not widely known that painkillers can derail ovulation.

I would typically get several days of increasing discomfort, sometimes it was painful to walk as each step jarred the tender area. I would take painkillers and it was quite hard to do without them when TTC!

Pistillate · 05/10/2013 21:48

Jaykay, good luck this cycle!

Pistillate · 05/10/2013 21:46

Hi everyone, thanks for all your replies. It settled down last night, so I am going to go what bugger lugs said and see what next month brings.

Jaykay, no I am not temping, just using cm and pain to track cycles. I am not ttc ATM, so just tracking to know myself. I have not actually had ov pain the last couple of cycles....

babyrose · 05/10/2013 19:56

I had it so bad once for a whole day before I had ds (3 now) it was a year or so after I came off the pill.

jaykay987 · 05/10/2013 08:04

Hi op.

I don't think this is normal. Are you temping? Do you know you've ovulated?

Im asking as last week I was doubled up in pain for about 4 hours. Waves of pain were rippling across my front, coupled with strong period type pain across my back.
It was just after my peak OPK reading so I assumed it was ovulation pain - not that I normally feel anything as bad as that!

But my temps didnt rise and the opks soon turned negative again.

I assume my body tried to ovulate, but it didnt work. My positive opks have arrived again yesterday. Fingers crossed I ovulate this time - hopefully without the pain!
