What do you think of the news that women with firstborn sons will have a lower chance of having a 2nd child?

Agree with beansprout that a load of people who had boys and then other kids isn't really shedding much light on this. The article says secondary recurrent mc only happens to about 1 in 300 women.

I imagine an immunologically-caused mc would happen pretty early in the pg?

When I had the mc they asked me the sex of my other children as they said there is sometimes a link

So it doens't apply to me. But the 3 women I know with secondary infertility all have boys.

I had a mc after ds1 but happily went on to have ds2, ds3 and ds4.

It was mentioned in that "Life before birth" programme that a woman who had previously had a son has an increased change of miscarriage, but never tried to explain why, which I thought was a bit off, especially as there could've been lot of newly pregnant mums of sons watching.

My sister has a son, and she has had two subsequent micarriages (don't know why the hospital said 'it's one of those things'). She's now expecting a baby in September and apart from an initial scare she's fine..... The article made me think though.

There not saying that every woman who has a male first born experiences this, just some women.

It's true for me, and scarily, quite a few other women I know.

1st born ds then had ds2,dd1 and dd2.Fell preg straight away each time.

Firstborn ds, second dd, both conceived at first attempt. No immunological issues there!

Thanks for the link - it exlained it in more detail.

Might have to convince dp to start trying now for a second child in that case. (ds is 10 months!)

was the case for me. Healthy lovely 4 year old boy, followed by 2 stillbirths (the first of which was a boy) Probably nothing in it...but they still seem to know so little in this particular field.

Well, I've got 3 boys and got pregnant with all of them on the first attempt. So doesn't apply to me anyway!
