Stupid opks already stressing me out and wish I hadn't bothered :(

I promised myself we would embark on the ttc journey in a relaxed way and take it from there. But I can't relax about anything and decided to use opks straight away and they're already stressing me out :( Can anyone offer some words of support or help?

cd8 - nothing
cd9 - nothing
cd10 - faint line
cd11 (today) - even fainter line

So what should I make of that?? Yesterday I was positive, today I'm feeling much less so!

Squigglypig - that's a good point. Maybe the symptoms I'm getting now are just 'post ovulation'. Will keep plodding on! Thank you for the encouragement!

I think you might have had your lh surge on day 9/10 which would mean you may have ovulated on days 10/11 or 12. As long as you DTD at some point around then then you're probably covered. And if you're doing it every two days that's fine, sperm will live in your uterous for a few days so you don't have to get it precisely there. The official NHS advice is not to worry too much about the actual ovulation date and to DTD every 2 or 3 days so you are doing everything right - please don't worry.

VJONES1985 · 15/08/2013 15:11

I know and I swore I would go into this relaxed,at least for the first few months. I suppose it's just waiting to find out if opk is going to be positive one day or not that is the worst bit. Bit we shall continue dtd every other day and if I weren't using opks I would be more positive than I do right now. However, at least using them is helping me to begin charting my cycle.

Don't be upset. You're body is just doing what it needs to do. It's advised to wait a month after stopping anyway, in case the lining of your uterus is too thin and needs to build up. I know it's difficult, but try and stay calm and have faith it will be ok. It keeps you sane. Obsessing over ttc makes you just feel bad.

VJONES1985 · 15/08/2013 14:55

Okay, thanks. Hope it all makes sense soon. Don't want to admit that I may not ovulate at all this month :(

Don't worry. I have symptoms that I think relate to ov for around 8-10 days of each cycle.

Keep noting everything, it will start to make sense in some time.

VJONES1985 · 15/08/2013 14:39

Negative opk again today but have so many other symptoms - my cervix is softer than yesterday and I've got light cramps, bloating, wind, headaches and my boobs feel different. The mixed messages are frustrating!

The luteal phase -after ovulation - is the most stable phase. It can last between 10-16 days and usually does not vary much per cycle. The phase before ovulation on the other hand can vary a lot per woman and per cycle.

VJONES1985 · 15/08/2013 13:45

Tea - I have a lot of ov signs at the moment but if my opk is negative again today, I'll be gutted. Trying to convince myself that the opk could be wrong but I think that's wishful thinking. As long as my bfp doesn't take too long, I'll be fine.

OP posts:
MrsWedgeAntilles · 15/08/2013 13:42

That's what I meant, the bit before ovulation is variable and the bit after ovulation is roughly about 14 days. I really have to go and find out about this.

Tea1Sugar · 15/08/2013 13:40

I didn't ovulate in my first cycle off the pill, period came on cd25, then had very definite positive opks second cycle followed by a bfp. Hang in there! I was lucky my period came back quickly but I've read of many women on here where it takes up to 100 days! Sending you lots of luck though! Oh and every 2-3 days through cycle then you'd be covered.

VJONES1985 · 15/08/2013 13:02

Wedge - you do get af 14 days after ovulating but you don't necessarily ovulate 14 days into your cycle, I believe...

MrsWedgeAntilles · 15/08/2013 12:48

I'll need to look into that then, it was a consultant who told me so I thought it was 14 days.

VJONES1985 · 14/08/2013 20:27

Have had some good advice about ovulation dates from people on here tonight :) And some people suggested that opks don't work for everyone anyway, so that makes me feel a bit better.

VJONES1985 · 14/08/2013 15:36

Atilla - I really don't remember :/ My periods started when I was 14, went on the pill at 16 and have just come off, aged 28. I think I would have remembered if they were really irregular though and nothing sticks in my mind, so I guess they were fairly regular. My main reason for using opks is because I want to know if I am actually ovulating after coming off the pill.

OP posts:
goodasitgets · 14/08/2013 14:40

Definitely not always 14 days. I ovulate usually on day 8 - 10

AttilaTheMeerkat · 14/08/2013 14:30

The time between ovulation and your period is not always 14 days at all. This assertion is incorrect!!.

VJ - I'd lay off the OPKs if they are already stressing you out. They do not really help and do rely on the desperation of women to conceive.

Ovulation is not an exact science and it can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. A good way of determining what your periods will be like is to try and recall what your cycle was like prior to taking the pill. If it was at that time regular, it is more likely to revert back to such a pattern. If the cycle was irregular however, it could go back to that.

blueamber · 14/08/2013 12:44

just keep going! Remember that you might not ovulate in that first month.

VJONES1985 · 14/08/2013 11:40

Using some cheapie ones from Amazon, 30 for about £6.00.

OP posts:
blueamber · 14/08/2013 11:38

Which OPK are you using?

Some women never get a positive, but they still ovulate. But in the first cycle off the pill it could take longer.

VJONES1985 · 13/08/2013 18:24

Followed some advice from here and did opk twice today,at 2pm and 6pm. Still negative though, despite cramping for a couple of days :( Really hope something happens soon. Can opks be wrong??

MrsWedgeAntilles · 13/08/2013 13:23

Me too Grin

VJONES1985 · 13/08/2013 13:19

I know that's true, I'm just impatient!

OP posts:
MrsWedgeAntilles · 13/08/2013 13:12

The first month off the pill is always a tricky one though because as you've said you don't know what your cycles are likely to be.
Just try to enjoy it, all being well this time next year statistics tells us both of us will be up the duff or have a wee person keeping us up Grin
