The smallprint - Berries have a strict entrance criteria (TTC #1, over 30, TTC for 3+months, NO instadiffers, must have a special pot) and def no mention of baby dust or baby dancing UGH !!! Ooh we are strict...please note your house may be at risk if you do not keep up repayments lol

Hey Berries. First off I'm really sorry for not checking in last night; we didn't get back til very late and I think everything caught up with me as I was fast asleep within minutes of getting home. Thank you all for the encouragement; it helped immensely and I did have to suppress a giggle during the hycosy part of the exam when I thought to myself that I needed to channel Berry Power to get through the extreme awkwardness that is a virtual stranger lubing up a dildocam next to you. Aaaaand breathe!

Ok so the deal is, both tubes are perfectly clear, my blood results and the consistency of my cycle indicate I'm ovulating every month (he was quite insistent about this, which surprised me) and that although my AMH number of 16.1 is low (insistent about that also, sob), it isn't disastrous, but given my age we need to crack on with things (duh). My antral follicle count is 16, 8 on each side, which he said was good and made him feel better about the AMH number.

Here's where it gets interesting. Back in Feb when I had a dildocam, the tech was surprised to see that two follies were ready to pop that month, when usually there's just one dominant one. Last night, the ultrasound showed a follicle on each side at 21mm, both on track to release eggs on apx Weds. He said it was v interesting that the two scans I've had both showed double releases, and said that it could be a hereditary thing, as I have a history of fraternal twins on both sides of the family. What's encouraging is that it could help account for the low-ish AMH number: if this is a regular-ish thing, then I'm blowing through my eggs more quickly than I ought to. Weirdly that has helped me put it into perspective, when before it just seemed shocking, given my other bloodwork. On the other hand, if I'm shooting out 2 eggs sometimes, and still nothing has happened despite double the odds....what the hell is the problem?? Anyway so he said I'll probably ovulate on Weds, and so to DTD on late Tuesday (tonight), Thursday and Saturday, leaving 1 day gaps between. This makes me reaaaaaallly nervous as you all know I'm a 1x/2x a day girl but we'll do as told.

The plan of action is to finish this cycle & hope for the best, then do 2 rounds of ovulation induction, which took me a while to realize is monitored clomid - clomid + scans to monitor follicle maturation and then a trigger shot to force ovulation, followed by sex within 4 hours. All to make sure that timing isn't the problem. He said it's possible that there's an implantation issue as a leuteal phase of 12 days 'could easily be problematic' (did not expect that) so I'll have to do a hideous progesterone suppository also, but that in his opinion there's no medical reason why TTC hasn't worked naturally thus far, so his gut feeling is that we'll wind up having to do IVF. I may have really tough eggs or some other issue that can only be addressed in a lab, and given my age and AMH result and the fact we've been trying for 14 mos with no result, that after 2 rounds of clomid/progesterone/monitoring, it'd be time to change course.

So. I feel utterly relieved at being in the care of a specialist, and wish we'd done this 6 months ago. He doesn't hold out much hope for Clomid doing the trick, but wanted to try it rather than jumping straight to IVF, which I appreciate as I know it'd help me mentally to know we'd tried all we could before getting that aggressive. The Hycosy wasn't exactly painless, but nothing a paracetemol and a deep breath couldn't take the edge off of. Afterwards I did feel stupidly tired and rather queasy which I'm not sure is normal but this morning I'm fine. So for the time being, I'm scaling back on the temping and the CBFM'ing and trying to think positive; this is not my "make or break" cycle anymore, and that's a relief.

Sorry so long! Blush

CatsCantFlyFast · 03/09/2013 08:37

Bunny everyone deserves a dildocam! Although if you get your BFP you could always book an early scan which would also earn you that stripe!

Bunnygirlie · 03/09/2013 08:35

sid you ok honey?

happy we had a few threads before (where you and i first met Wink) but the first Berry thread was 7th October, so another month till PARTAY time!!!

2 weeks 2 weeks 2 weeks!!! Till our first FC appt! Is it wrong that a teeny weeny part of me doesn't mind if we don't get a BFP this month so I can see what all the fuss is about, dildocam styley Grin

I think I might need wanging!

Stalking for an update from Sid

happylass · 03/09/2013 07:31

Morning all. Sid how are you??

Bunny I've just realised we can't be far off the 1st anniversary of the Berries being founded - party?? Wine Cake Wine

BlindKitty · 03/09/2013 06:55

rp it's only 15% for iui although my nurse reckons its more like 20something% for me as I'd fall more into an ovulation induction category. Think ivf is 25% for our age group. Bare in mind that those figures apply to large groups of people who might have lots of things wrong rather than just mostly healthy individuals

Boodle9 · 02/09/2013 23:42

Smile Pip, it's great how they motivate us to do our best, isn't it?! Hmm

Pipbin · 02/09/2013 23:17

Boodle. Are you at my school? The inset days seem very similar.

Boodle9 · 02/09/2013 23:05

Excellent response Haycorn. My response was more disappointing; just a blasé 'oh you're looking at the wrong person with me - go and see the bright young newly engaged things in the infant end of school'. She may read of that what she wants.

Right - bed time! Got to be up bright and early for blood tests and a day of being told how crap we are at our jobs teacher inset!

RevoltingPeasant · 02/09/2013 22:47

haycorn ha ha, beautifully bitchy.

Kitty, is it really only 15% success rate with assisted conception? :( From wht my gp sid last week, I think that is where DH and I are headed after Christmas if I'm not pg by then. That sounds ages away, eh, but it is only 4 more cycles!

Bunnygirlie · 02/09/2013 22:38

Ha ha haycorn

How are you?

Off to bed now, school tomorrow Wink at kitty

God, I think your colleagues are even worse than mine Boodle! You should have squeezed her shoulder back, looked meaningfully at her stomach and said 'Oh, so that's why your clothes are looking tighter. Congratulations!'

BlindKitty · 02/09/2013 22:24

bunny clearly hadn't realised its a school night

bunny I don't even care whether I get of through assisted conception anymore. I've accepted it won't happen naturally a while back

boodle unless I miraculously end up being one of the lucky 15% with iui, I'll be starting my ivf in nov/dec. maybe you're work colleague knows the next preggers at work will be you!!!!

Thundercatsarego · 02/09/2013 22:15

Youch boodle that is horrible. I'd've been tempted to sleep the collection out of their hand and blame it on an arm spasm.

Hope sid's ok

Hi bunny, looking GOOD.

Bunnygirlie · 02/09/2013 22:13

boodle FOUR preggos?!? How crappage! Luckily we have none at work at the mo! End of last year was tough, 3 of my hens were pg (2 I work with)!

OP posts:
Boodle9 · 02/09/2013 22:00

I know that feeling, Bunny, being back at work with the 4 preggos is doing very little for my happy vibes. At least two of them will be gone soon! Had to chip in for their collections today though and the staff member taking them round looked at me and said very pointedly, "We've all been making predictions about who'll be the next to be pregnant..." followed by a shoulder squeeze.

Sad
Bunnygirlie · 02/09/2013 21:48

Yep a lot of IVF and first FC appointments, exciting but sad that it hasn't happened naturally Sad

Wow, there's a quite a few Berries moving towards IVF now - I will be eavesdropping with interest in anticipation that this seems the most likely path for me to be heading down come 2014.

Off for clomid CD21 blood tests tomorrow. I'm frustrated as I haven't even been able to find out what my results were from last month as the consultant's secretary has been on what seems to be a fairly lengthy holiday.

Bunnygirlie · 02/09/2013 21:17

I was trying to be positive kitty and believe me that is not like me at all, I am a pessimist through and through!

Quiet in here tonight

Bunnygirlie · 02/09/2013 20:03

WHACKS kitty but also keeping FX that its time for another BFP cluster!!!

Evening ladies. .
All the best sid for this evening.
I'm 10 dpo tomorrow so will be pimping in the morning. Done quite well to get this far along without giving in so far. No symptoms to spot other than usual bloatedness.

BlindKitty · 02/09/2013 18:50

puppy I wasn't given a choice! Had all my tests at this hospital so just moved to iui (ivf after 2 more cycles if iuis not successful). Know people look at success rates etc though. Good luck

pip thinking of you bud. Let us know how it goes

Well afraid the symptom spotting has started already Hmm even though I wouldn't have implanted yet! (6dpo) someone wang me!!!!

ladybunnikins · 02/09/2013 18:12

Sid, this is what I used for looking at IVF clinics initially
guide.hfea.gov.uk/guide/

ladybunnikins · 02/09/2013 18:09

Sorry to hear your news Puppy but good that you're able to get on with treatment quickly
Good luck Sid! I'm having my first IVF cycle in the clinic linked to a university hospital (something I've heard that Robert Winston recommends doing). It's where we've had our NHS investigations and it's also relatively cheap, I think we've paid about £3400 which includes drugs. There is another place a similar distance away which looks like it has better results, but they also have a much higher number of multiple births so they are probably putting 2 embryos back more often.
CD2 and I got my antral follicle count scan today - 19, which I think is reasonable. 14 on left ovary and 5 on right, my left tube is the one that is probably blocked so maybe this helps explain our problems? Due to start downregging on CD24. Feeling more positive than yesterday!
