That's it really. Trying to give TTC a kick up the arse as I'm getting old and counting days doesn't seem to be working.

What's easy to use and won't cost a bloody fortune?

Amelia84 I defn need to google that later to day, sounds very advanced and a bit alternative :D

Amelia84 · 12/08/2013 13:11

I use, Aphrodite Saliva Ovulation Test, it tracks fertile and infertile days during your period on the basis of salts and estrogen crystallisation in saliva. I`m very satisfied with this device and it looks like lipstick.

VJONES1985 · 11/08/2013 19:21

Thank you - and you! Still have three weeks until I can do a pg test, which feels such a long time!

ItalianWiking84 · 11/08/2013 18:25

I sure hope this is your month :)

VJONES1985 · 11/08/2013 14:40

Yes, I think that's a good idea.

ItalianWiking84 · 11/08/2013 14:32

vjones, i prob do it every other day till the line would be darker than the control line and then do it every day for a couple of dats (tho to be honest don't think I would get it done that many times)

VJONES1985 · 11/08/2013 14:14

Well,it's cd10 and I got a very faint line on my opk today (absolutely nothing on cd9 and 8) so I'm guessing that means my LH is on the rise. According to the instructions, when the test line is as dark or darker than the control line, ovulation is due in the next 24-36 hours. So I assume I can continue dtd every one or two days until strong LH is detected and then dtd daily for a few days?

VJONES1985 · 10/08/2013 18:51

Have jut ordered a pack of 30 from Amazon which got good reviews. They seem to be the PIAC kind but I don't care, as long as they work! Am planning to test every two days until a faint line appears and then test every day and increase dtd to every day also as the line gets stronger.

VJONES1985 · 10/08/2013 17:03

Have had ewcm for three days but opk was negative today :-( Am using Asda own brand so I hope they're accurate.

blueamber · 10/08/2013 15:16

Vjones yes start using your opks! First cycle it's recommended to start on cd6 as you can't be sure when ov will happen. Especially if you get ewcm have a go! Which opk are you using? If your using clearblue advanced you ideally would start it before you get the oestrogen surge so it knows when the surge has happened and it can give you a flashing smiley. If you use it later, it might just go from no smiley to a fixed one.

misshoohaa · 10/08/2013 14:06

OP I tried OPK's this month and went the whole hog and got the clear blue digital that gives you the flashy smiley then then the fixed smiley for peak fertility.
After 5 days of flashing smiley I was pretty annoyed as thought I had missed it, but come day 6 I got my fixed smiley on day 17 of my cycle. We'd been shagging more day 9-14 based on an average cycle but the Clear blue helped pinpoint exact day.

Worth the extortionate money if I get my BFP this month I guess!

PearlyWhites · 10/08/2013 13:59

I used clearblue monitor I ovulated in day 21 which was a shock and got a bfp the first month.

Danielle1588 · 10/08/2013 13:35

Clearblu 4 me

VJONES1985 · 10/08/2013 09:39

Right, if day one is the first day of my period, I am now on day eight of my first cycle after the pill. I appear to have EWCM which may or may not mean I am due to ovulate soon. Does anyone think it's worth me using one of my OPK sticks today to see if that's the case? And am I right in thinking that a positive reading means I am due to release an egg in the next day or so, and therefore I would be highly fertile for the next few days? Thanks -just need some help understanding it.

VJONES1985 · 09/08/2013 18:59

That's nice to know that you settled down quickly - hope it'll be the same for me! And will bear ebay in mind for a CBFM if I'm still ttc in a few months.

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie · 09/08/2013 18:18

PIAC - pee in a cup

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie · 09/08/2013 18:17

Blueamber - sorry, I meant day of ovulation.

Just going from what I've read; the impatient woman's guide to getting pregnant - it says that the clearblue monitor is programmed to assume that the day of ovulation is the most fertile when it's actually the day before. The monitor gives a peak when it detects the LH surge and then another the next day. Therefore the 2nd peak day given is likely to be the day of ovulation, which isn't apparently as fertile as the day or two before. The author's opinion is that the last day of high and the first day of peak are actually your most fertile days Confused I suppose it does depend on how often you plan to BD; if it's every other day once you get ewcm, then it doesn't really matter too much.

VJones - I have been quite lucky, my cycles have settled pretty quickly. My first month off the pill, I ovulated on day 19. The month after it went down to 16, but the month after that I ended up in hospital with gastroenteritis over the weekend I was due to ovulate. According to fertility friend, I didnt ovulate that month. That was April, and since then I've ovulated on day 19 ever since.

I bought my CBFM from ebay for about £30, and bought a box of test sticks separately. It's pretty simple to reset but it takes a stick to do so.

VJONES1985 · 09/08/2013 17:31

Itssofluffy - have just been on amazon and ordered those sticks you've been using. Looking forward to trying them out!

I think the CB monitor will have to stay on my wishlist as it's about £70!

VJONES1985 · 09/08/2013 16:28

Yeah, that's what I thought... well, I need to treat it as though I am going to ovulate (even if I don't) so I guess we'll be dtd every two days (or daily, if that doesn't lower sperm count or quality)

blueamber · 09/08/2013 16:21

it usually means your body is gearing up for ovulation. But when you've just come off the pill it might not lead to ovulation immediately. Sometimes women can have a few patches of ewcm in their cycle as well.

VJONES1985 · 09/08/2013 15:49

Sorry, I meant ewcm...

VJONES1985 · 09/08/2013 15:48

Blueamber - so, the fact that I appear to have rwcm at the moment could be a sign of impending ovulation? (If not just a side effect of coming off the pill. ..)

blueamber · 09/08/2013 15:46

itssofluffy: the 2nd peak day is not the day after ovulation! The first peak day you get means that you are having an lh surge. Ovulation follows 12-48 hours from that. So your first peak day is your most fertile day, but the second peak day is fertile as well (even if you have ovulated by then, the egg is usually still alive and fertile).

VJONES1985 · 09/08/2013 15:44

And what does PIAC mean?

VJONES1985 · 09/08/2013 15:38

ItsSoFluffy - they look good. Have you been using one every day to chart your cycle? Can I ask, after you came off the pill did your cycle settle down quickly?
