I know a lot of people on here have taken it. I just wanted to know how many cycles it took to work and what dose were you on? I just feel like hearing a few positive stories.

I just had one of those sinking moments when I read a thread with someohe saying they were 6 months pregnant and I realsied thats what I would have been if I didn't have a miscarriage.

IMEXCITEDN2010 · 28/07/2010 16:01

Hello everyone I'm new to the blog & I'm enjoying everyone's success stories. One thing that I haven't heard anyone mention is taking Ovidrel w/the Clomid cycle. I don't know what the Trigger Shots are. But I have 2 wonderful children 13 1/2 (daughter) & 19 1/2 (son). My husband and I was suppose to start the Clomid & Ovidrel last year but right when it was time to start we got pregnant by ourselves and in 3 months had a miscarriage on July 13, 2009. Well it's been a yr a still no pregnancy. So we just start the Clomid (cycle days 3-6) & the Ovidrel Shot 9AM 7/21/10 & our datenight was 7/23/10 @ 10PM. So now we're just waiting. That's the worst part because I have all of the symptoms of being pg. I have to admit I do not know half the abbreviations that u all r using. Sorry for the long intro story. IMEXCITEDN2010....

Chickennut ...

I'm 44 and also had a son naturally when I was 41 after 5 years of ttc and 'unexplained infertility'. Recently two blood tests revealed I was not ovulating so have had one month of clomid 50g and doctor has upped it to 100g this month. Would be good to keep in touch as not sure whether our age means that we're less likely to be successful on clomid?

You (and others) also mention scans which you've had done. I've not been offered any monitoring whatsoever? What do the scans tell you?

Be good to hear from 'older' ladies on clomid who've been successful and any tips on what helped them conceive.

comeonbishbosh · 12/08/2009 18:32

Hi alex,

I had about 8 cycles of Clomid before conceiving. The first few on 50g and then up to 100g as cycles still very long)... was beginning to get worried and think it was all a waste of time. I have PCOS, and needed Provera to get my period started at all, but after that the consultant seemed to be happy that the Clomid was working in terms of ovulation, just not actually conceiving. I guess it really only brings you up to 'normal' chances.

In the lap and dye test they detected a polyp in my womb, which needed a small op to remove, and I got BFP first cycle after that. I also had a couple of months of acupuncture, and conceived while on that... have no idea whether it helped or not but I had a good recommendation from a friend.

It is very stressful and no fun. But my consultant seemed to think there was a 60 - 70% chance of conceiving within a year... so the very best of luck to you.

scooby7730 · 07/08/2009 02:22

I have been ttc for almost two years now. been takin met and provera for about a year. no bfp yet. doctor did an hsg as well as semen analysis for my hubby all was well. this month will be my first month on clomid, hoping it works. I will pray for all of you ttc.

Chica1912 · 15/07/2009 12:35

My LO is a clomid baby too. 6th iui cycle, 3rd clomid 150g. I was at the point of believing that it would never happen. I really think that there is no rhyme nor reason as to why it takes so long to work for some and not for others. The only real thing you can do is keep positive as hard as that may seem at times!

Here's hoping that you are one of the 2nd time lucky ladies!

chickennut · 14/07/2009 21:52

Hi Im on my second cycle of clomid , i was told 1st one that i did not ovulate follicles only 5mm i think. He scanned me on day 12 and said they will not scan again this next 2 cycles if it doesnt work and then they will consider highering the dose.
I am just 45 , has it worked for anyone 45 on here ?
I had my son first time naturally at 43 even though they said I could not get pregnant.I had 6 sessions of acupucture and (grin)voila but I think I was very lucky although now desperate to have another.
Thanks for any replies

Elizabeth

lomondgal · 04/10/2007 14:14

Hiya dd1 was a clomid baby, I conceived on my second cycle and was on 50mg dose. I have pcos and wan't ovulating at all.

Decided to try again after 2.5yrs and got another appt at the clinic (expecting to get prescribed clomid again) found out I was preg during the routine scan!

Good luck with it, oh and with dd1 I was given hcg injections every week till I was a few months gone.

Hope it works for you xxx

Beena · 04/10/2007 14:04

Hiya all - I have just started clomid 50mg this month and loved reading about all your success stories - it has made me feel really positive.

Just wondering if any of you took anything else while on the clomid which might have helped - esp with the cm issue as have heard it can dry you out a bit......

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Mystic82 · 04/10/2007 08:49

I came across this term : dydesterone. What does it do? Is it some form of hormone pill that reduces the side effects of clomid ?

Geetha · 22/06/2007 05:01

Hey Alex, I think you and I are on the same boat.I was on clomid last month, I did not ovulate and then took Provera to get my periods, now I'am on 2nd cycle of clomid(100mg),I'am going through hell,I and my husband are trying to have a baby from last 1 year, its very depressing.
Good luck to you:-)

BetsyBoop · 18/06/2006 21:22

worked for me on 2nd cycle & DD arrived in Dec 05

my consultant said about 75% of those who will conceive with the help of clomid do so in the first 3 cycles (he would only normally do 6 cycles, so I'm assuming the other 25% are on cycles 4-6)

Overall I think clomid has about a 50% pregnancy success rate - assuming there are no other problems

Rachee · 17/06/2006 15:49

just git BFP this morning, 4th cycle.......( LOL having month off clomid ) !!!

I keep thinking about relfexology or acupuncture to help me relax. But all my money is going on the hospital appointments.

ladymuck · 10/06/2006 14:03

Alex8, in fairness my consultant always check male factor first (a sperm test is very quick). But as there are usually waiting lists etc for lap & dye tests etc they start women on Clomid as a) it has a very good success rate; and b) they do their cycle monitoring (and other blood tests) at the same time, so it aids their diagnosis). If you have blocked tubes or uterine scarring then Clomid would never be the best treatment, so the fact that you've had 3 cycles already isn't an issue.

Other doctors vere against giving Clomid unless ovulatory issues are diagnosed.

saltcod · 10/06/2006 10:30

Hi Alex, I also got v. depressed when I didn't get preg on 1st cycle of 50mg clomid - heard so many stories of ladies conceiving on their 1st cycle of it.

I'd been prescribed 3 cycles of 50mg. I went on to conceive on the third cycle of clomid Grin. Early days for me yet...... I'm only 10+4 wks preg, but hopefully this will give you some hope that if clomid works it doesn't always happen on the first cycle of taking it! BTW, I also started reflexology halfway through my clomid treatment....... it helped me chill out no end & I think played a huge part in getting my BFP :)

alex8 · 09/06/2006 20:53

thats very interesting. My consultant was exactly the reverse I had to have investigations first cos there was a limited amount of times you can take clomid and he didn't want to waste them if I had bad uterine scarring or blocked tubes or something. Its all such a lottery isn't it?

OP posts:
ladymuck · 09/06/2006 20:38

My local hospital put most of their fertility patients onto clomid whilst they were carrying out investigations as they had a 50% success rate from women taking 3 cycles of clomid.

Rachee · 09/06/2006 20:24

i had 3 50 mgs cycle of clomid, did nothing, then 4th cycle went up to 100 mgs, increase cycle lenght, but no baby.... had scan day 13 juicy folical too and then had jab to release egg, but still no baby.... just had lap and dye, so maybe next month ....

Good luck ...
