Advice re OPK please-very early smiley face

StrawberryMojito · 02/06/2013 09:49

This is my second month using an OPK (clearblue digital that tells you when you are both high and peak fertility). Last month I didn't get a high fertility sign at all (flashing smiley face), it just went straight to peak fertility (fixed smiley face). This was on day 12 which was a couple of days earlier than expected but still seemed normal.

I only finished my period a couple of days ago but started using the opk straight away as my cycles vary a bit (26-30 days). Today (day 8) I got a high fertlity sign. Surely this is too early?

So, we had sex last night just for fun rather than baby making but now I'm thinking should we do it again tonight as I got the high (but not peak) fertility sign or shall we just start doing it every other day until I get the peak fertility smiley face. I don't want to exhaust DH and his swimmers but don't want to miss the window either.

Poor you bambi! I really feel for you, it's a nightmare not knowing what is going on. I hope you get some answers soon!

Hi strawbs, i agree with blue. I would continue dtd every other day (but if the mood takes you, don't let 'the plan' stop you) then when you get your fixed dtd 3 nights off the trot then have a rest day then dtd once more for luck. This worked for us. Remember that these adv OPK are super sensitive so you shouldn't miss your window especially as sperm can live a few days. When I got my fixed with the adv ones I didn't get a smiley until 24hrs after with normal cb digital.

Fertility reflexology sounds exciting blue, what exactly does it involve? I think it's got to be worth a shot, do you have long to wait until your appointment? I'm guessing still no sign of your fixed then?

I've only spoken to 1 friend about ttc as she told me she was ttc too, unfortunately she had a miscarriage Sad.

How's things charley and business?

I went to see the docs this morning. Given the date of my last true af they've estimated my due date as 22/02/14 even though I suspect it will be more likely to be March.

StrawberryMojito · 24/07/2013 12:54

Hi Blue, I don't blame you trying the reflexology, I have thought about acupuncture if my cycles don't get a bit longer as I found it massively helped with another problem a few years ago. It's the price that puts me off at the moment. If you are close to your dad, I think it would be worth telling him. I have told my mum but I then told her not to ask me about it unless I mentioned it first. A couple of my pg friends also know but they don't really bring it up.

Sorry about the bfn Bambi. Hurry up Bambi's AF!!

BNmum, the thunder and lightning woke me as well, but oddly enough it never rained! And the garden could definitely use some.

Strawb, if you dtd every other day you won't miss your opportunity! If you have ewcm sperm will survive for at least three days.

Mambi, not nice being in limbo!! Hope you get an answer soon.

I have now booked a fertility reflexology appointment. My dad is a reflexologist and I remember being ill once when I was younger and feeling a lot better after having him doing reflexology on me. But he lives too far away, so I'm having it done somewhere else. I am hoping they might wake up my ovaries Smile. I decided I can't wait another two months for my period after having a little break down yesterday, so it better work!

I toyed with the idea of telling him we're ttc and my cycle isn't coming back yet so he can give me advice, but I don't really feel comfortable telling anyone... has anyone told their family about ttc?

Bambi27 · 24/07/2013 11:23

Hi strawberry was using superdrug/tesco. No af today so went and bought a cb digital and bfn! Eugh! Wasn't fmu but collected wee and was v dark so pretty concentrated! Pretty sure I'm not pg now!! Will test again Friday morning with other stick if af hasn't come so I can drink at wedding without worrying!! ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedHurry up af!!

StrawberryMojito · 24/07/2013 10:27

What are you testing with Bambi? Maybe try a CB digital in a couple of days of still no sign of AF.

I got another flashing smiley again this morning as expected. We dtd last night but I'm in two minds as whether to do it daily or whether to do it every other day until fixed smiley. I don't want to wear out DH but then I don't want to waste an opportunity! I'm CD 11 now. What did you do BN? What are you planning on doing Charley?

Bambi27 · 23/07/2013 19:45

Oh rubbish Bnmum! Hope you sleep better tonight! No no symptoms, boobs have been hurting but i did last month to! Also been having on and off tummy pains but again nothing major! Equally no signs of af...very strange and longer cycle I've had is 29 days but normally 28 and last few cycles have been 27!! X

BNmum · 23/07/2013 19:33

Hi ladies, I'm also walking round looking like a zombie after being woken at 4am with thunder and lightening - it was like a strobe light was set up in the bedroom, unbelievable!

I'm pleased to hear some flashing smileys have appeared for you strawberry and charley.

Sorry to hear about the bfn's for business and bambi. I'm looking on the positive side for you both and thinking no af, therefore still a strong possibility of some BFPs to come! Fingers crossed. Have either of you got any symptoms?

Any sign of your fixed blue?

Bambi27 · 23/07/2013 18:55

Rubbish business! When are/were you due?

Well we Dtd twice the day I got a fixed smiley and then nothing after as hubby was poorly so don't think that's an option but sperm can last 5 days or something can't they so I suppose it could...god I don't know!!!

businessadmin · 23/07/2013 18:28

Same here Bambi BFN again to-day Sad x

StrawberryMojito · 23/07/2013 17:43

That's a pain Bambi. How many days is it since you last dtd, is it possible you ovulated later than you thought?

OP posts:
Bambi27 · 23/07/2013 13:22

Just to keep you updated still no af and bfn again today! So frustrating!! Hope you're both enjoying Dtd!! Xx

charleylarlie · 23/07/2013 09:39

Yep, will def dtd today! Grin

StrawberryMojito · 23/07/2013 09:13

Yay Charlie, looks like we have a busy few days ahead!

charleylarlie · 23/07/2013 07:14

Good news re: the flashing smiley, Strawberry. I got one this morning too on cd8! We had v. loud thunder too, which woke DS (and me) but it was around midnight, so normal service resumed after. Was bloody loud though.

Hope you find out either way soon, Bambi - there's still a chance. I'm not sure how long you have to wait for a blood test if AF doesn't show, but at least that would be more likely to give you an accurate answer?

Def go back in a couple of months if cycle hasn't settled, Blueamber.

Still fingers crossed, Business.

Keep drinking that Lucozade, BNmum, esp in this weather (although it appears to raining over here, hope it brightens up again later).

StrawberryMojito · 23/07/2013 05:15

The good news for me is that I got a flashing smiley today, CD10.
Bad news is thunder woke DS up at 4.30am, he wouldn't resettle and we've been up since then. Fun.

Hi

BNmum , nope AF hasnt arrived yet, so just bought more OPK.

Strawberry nope i avent tested again, just wait & see if AF appears!

Smile
Bambi27 · 22/07/2013 21:20

I think they'd have said same to me I went in before a year. :( frustrating but nothing you can do as they're probably right and body needs to readjust after pill xx

blueamber · 22/07/2013 21:18

Thanks all, I think I will leave it for a couple of months and then go back. There are no female GPs in my surgery and the one I saw usually is the best one, so I'll do as I'm told for now...

Bambi27 · 22/07/2013 20:16

Still no af and two different brand tests came back negative today. Doesn't feel like af is on her way, maybe it was that bleed around time of ov that has thrown af? No idea!! We didn't Dtd much after so don't think I can be pg just a screwed up af?!!

Also blue I meant to say I had funny periods after coming off injection (and during) came off it about two years ago now. (Wasn't ttc using condoms) last October I went for tests to check why they were all over the place because ttc. They checked my blood and did an internal. All fine. Anyway they said I could go back within six months if we hadn't conceived but periods went black to normal pretty soon after so haven't gone back yet, waiting for a year and doing a few months opks so I can give them more details. Hope that's helpful?? Confused

StrawberryMojito · 22/07/2013 20:02

Any news Bambi?

BN I remember those early days of nausea. All I could stomach was salty food-ready salted crisps and bacon sandwiches, I rarely eat bacon when not pregnant.

Could you give it another month or so and then see a different GP Blue? They may be more sympathetic, maybe a female one. I would have expected him to test your hormone levels at least.

Charley it's CD9 for me and I got a negative opk again this morning. We also dtd last night and we plan to do it every other night until we get a positive and then we'll really go for it! Like you I also felt a bit disappointed as I have had a flashing smiley by now when I have used them before. It never worked on those months though so maybe this one will be different...

Business have you tested again?

OP posts:
BNmum · 22/07/2013 19:30

Hi business did af arrive or are you just forward planning?

businessadmin · 22/07/2013 18:40

Ty charley, bambi & BNmum Smile.

I was going to order CB digital ovulation, but they were out of stock.

Im not buying the CB digital ovulation test with dual hormone indicator no more.

So anyway ive ordered the CB ovulation test.

BNmum · 22/07/2013 16:23

I've exaggerated a bit (but not much) and it was stop-start as I didn't know what was going on. I started testing cd8 (as cycle is irregular) and only got fixed smiley on cd24, i then stopped opks for 2 weeks and waited for af. When af didn't arrive and got a -ve hpt I started with the opks again on cd38 and got my 2nd fixed on cd41. If I wasn't using opks I wouldn't have had a clue what the hell was going on!

blueamber · 22/07/2013 15:34

I didn't know you got 20 days of flashing smileys! That gives me some hope, although I might have to put a new order for sticks in Smile.

Hopefully I will eventually get that steady smile, and then actually ovulate this time. Last time I went from low to peak, but didn't actually ov. I have started taking my temperature, so that should tell me if ov happened the day after.

BNmum · 22/07/2013 14:18

Hi ladies,

Here's hoping there's some bfp's on their way business and bambi.

All I can think about is ice cold lucozade charley, I could just stick my head in a bucket load of it, Slurp!
I'm sure the flashing and solid aren't too far away.

Sorry to here that you haven't got your solid this weekend blue and that you saw an insensitive Dr. There's a big difference between getting impatient because you haven't conceived and getting impatient because your body isn't giving you the chance to conceive! I would always get frustrated comparing myself to others who had a regular cycle and thinking bloody useless body is only giving me half the chances of everyone else. All I would say is remember that flashing smileys indicate pre-ovulation so you havent missed your opportunity, keep testing and remember I had almost 20 days worth of flashies before I ovulated and conceived.
