ovulation/progesterone levels obgyn question

Hello I'm rachel I'm 30 been trying to conceive, for 16moths I have pcos. I've recently been on 100mg of clomid which was upped from 50mg. I got my day 21 results back yesterday. My dr said the results are 42 and I'm in my ovulation range. I'm not convinced it's higher enough to sustain a pregnancy... anyone got any info...

This thread is old but has made me feel alot better. I had bloods done on cd 21 to be negative, she didnt tell me my numbers (im in the uk) she just said im stressed, im now on cd 28 sore boobs for over a week and bad gas, and no sign of af, my periods for the last month have been 30 - 32 days x so i guess my test could of been incorrect?

Jules, why can't you test before day 40 if you ovulated around day 17...surely you can start testing from day 14?
My day 21 levels were 30 which my gp said was normal. My gynae said she likes levels over 40 though....

I just got my 21 day results today and I managed a 38! Which is over the majic 30, but I'm wondering is this enough? I've been doing opks all month and i think I ov'd around day 16-17 (got the green light from day 14!). The paperwork that I got from the hospital (I've been given clomid) says not to test until day 40 but is it worth testing before?

This is just confusing !!!

hi friends am 21years old.. we r trying to get pregnant as 2 years. my period is irregular and i found out i have pcos. so my gyan gave me provera for period,metformin for insulin level and clomid 100mg..and then i had these tablets i had my period but not ovulated with 50mg clomid. again this month we tryed with 100mg clomid.,and i had progestone test on my 21st day of period.. level was 29.. now we r waiting to get pregnancy test on 30th day ... we r bit upset and panicking .. so please help us friends. and if anyone got this same problem?.. anyone got solution for this?..... please...

Hi I gt tested and jus received my results it was a level 4 so now I'm panicking that I'm never going to be able to concieve as I'm only 23 I'm still young but have been tryin with my partner for over 1year, my cycle is usually 28 days I'm not on day 32 with still no period docs told me to take a pregnancy test but I'm to scared incase the result isn't what I hope for any advice from any1??

Sorry hear about the problems you've been having, sadly sometimes it's a long road to getting pregnant, but once you hold your baby in your arms it will be the best journey you have ever been on. I can only give you tips based on my own experience. This is a list of tests my husband and I had

Me- blood tests, day 5 and 21, usually your GP can do this
Regular scans throughout cycle, to check how follicles were developing and lining of my womb was growing
HSG- to check cavity of my womb and also whether tubes are open
Hysteroscopy and laparoscopy, these were the last tests I had as all the others came back fine. A hyst puts camera in your womb to look at things in more details, and the lap they put a camera in through your belly button to look for things like endometriosis, which in my case was what the problem was.

Husband - 3 sperms tests over a period of 6 months, including something called the swim up test when they put the sperm through their paces so to speak to see if any make it to the end.

Are you in a position to have any tests and investigations done privately to try and speed things up? It may be worth checkiwit if you have insurance, BUPA for example will cover infertility investigations, just not treatment.

Klou. how old are you? I don't want to appear personal. But I take it you are not an 'older' woman. As age does play a factor.

You need a full set of tests done
IMHO the best person in this field is Dr. Geoffrey Sher. He's based in America and has helped hundreds of women to have children.
He' written a book 'The Art of Baby Making'.
If you log into his web site he lists reasons attached to infertility. I'm not sure if they carry out all the test in this country due to financial constraints.

I don't know your circumstances or finances, or your age, and you have only been trying for a short time. If you have to go down the road of help with infertility it is expensive. I wish you all the best.

Hello all, I am new to this forum, been going through fertility checks since august last year after 2 years of trying to conceive.
I have just received some of my results that indicate I am slightly poly-cystic and my progesterone level was 29 so 'likely' that I am ovulating.
I also have a slightly under active (borderline) thyroid (level 6.1)

My partners sperm tests are lower than they would like, but they still say that it should be ok (his count is 6% and motility 50%)

We are about to be classed as 'unexplained' as to why we have not conceived but I feel that our if we are both slightly under then there should be something the doctors can help with.

When I speak to them I end up feeling stupid and not knowing the right questions to ask to make sure I am getting the best advice and treatment.
Can anyone help that may be more experienced?

i think it was only done 5days before my period not 7 would this make alot of diff to results

this is whats confusing me docs said anything over 20 is good . and is it still poss to get pregnant with a level of 23

23 would not actually indicate ovulation - a level of 30 or over would be ideal.

They should also look at and compare your LH and FSH levels. This should be done early in your cycle - day 3. If LH is higher than FSH this is an indicator of hormonal imbalances.

my last period was on 25 sept,and its been almost 2 months ,that I ve not got the periods.
since Oct, m trying to concieve, first I thought that missed periods means pregnancy, but it gave me negative urine test.
doctor has asked me to wait, and without any blood test ,he has told me to take progesterone injection, if i dnt get my period for another week.i dnt know ,what to do, should i go for progesterone injection , ll it help me to concieve.please guide me

I really have to put to bed this myth that you need a level of 30 to show ovulation. You need a level of around 30 to sustain a pregnancy but it's perfectly possible to have ovulated on levels in the teens. I have been pregnant on levels of 18. The fact that this myth is perpetuated means, in my opinion, that many women are being told that they are not ovulating and getting pregnant when infact they are ovulating but their progesterone levels are not reaching high enough levels for implantation to occur and infact they're often having multiple very early miscarriages.

I had 4 m/c when ttc #2 and my levels never went over 23. All pregnancies were confirmed by blood tests. My 5th pregnancy had a level of 7 and doppler ultrasound showed no progesterone activity at all yet I had a BFP and once on progesterone supplements went onto have a healthy 41 week baby.

I have a two year old son. In the past six months I have been trying to get pregnant. However, in these months my period has been irregular. The doctor asked me to do a 21 day progesteron test. My result was 0.45 ng/ml. Can you please help me understand what that means? I am so worried!

Hello to all! I called myself scrammbled eggs as I thought the name was very appropiate. Around Christmas 2004 I had the 21 day test done and my result was 4!!! At the age of 25 my mother had more of a chance getting pregnant than I did! I then went for a scan which showed I had Polycystic Ovaries and my lack of eggs was one of the many side-effects. I was gutted!!! My doctor explained that my fertility level was very very low and that I would have a lot of bother getting pregnant. I was put on a drug called 'metformin'which is an insulin de-sensitizer usally used somehow for diabetes. It turns out that due to Pco's my body was producing too much insulin and had affected my egg count a great deal! I said I'd give it i try before I started chlomid or anything like that.I started the drug in Feb and guess what I was pregnant in April and had a beautiful baby girl born in Jan '06 whats more I then went on to have a wee boy in May '07 needing no help at all!Basically girls what Im trying to say, that I'd strongly advise any woman to have the 21 day test and get there ovaries checked, just to make sure that their wee factory inside is still in business! Last month at my 21day ovulation testing my level was at 5. This month my level was 37.1. I hate to admit but my hopes are sky high. I been given so much conflicting advice, what do you all think. My period is due in two days and im too scared to do a test.

HI Attila, Thanks again for all yor help and advice and we are very happy to say the blood test was wrong as we have just found out that we are expecting we are so please if not a little suprised getting booked in with the hospital and going under a specialist asap thakyou again you were a very big help

Hi Eeyore,

You should be referred to a gynae at a subfertility unit as a matter of course especially as you've been trying for 2 years now.

The irregular periods you are having are contributing to the subfertility; the day 21 result will be correct in this regard. I would unfortunately think that a second such test will show that ovulation has not occured. Irregular periods are often caused by hormonal imbalances which can be treated - a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit in this regard. It can be treated with specialist help.

Insist to your GP that you are referred; you
need a diagnosis of the underlying problem.

Its not your fault - many people have subfertility problems. Please do not blame yourself.

hello peeps looking for some help!! l've just had a blood test that said l'm not ovulating got to have another test again on d21 but my periods are so up the wall l can go from a 30 something to a 41 day cycle so how correct is a d21 test been trying now for 2 years so l'm now really confused and not to say the least messed up at it being my fault that we can't get preg,glad to say hubby really understanding.

help! had 21 day blood results today but no analasys from doc as needed them for appt tom with specialist. They read 30nmol - consistent with ov. Did i ovulate? worried before tomorrows appt. thanks.

oh klou, congratulations!!
