Tried to swi four times this week

Only worked once, dh is having problems

So last night in desperation, ov test pos on fri

I suggested dh give me a sample.

He did in a cup, was clean but not sterile, then I used a syringe again clean but not sterile

Anyway I'm hoping this is key, I was too scared to put the syringe inside as j thought what if j inject air

So I just kinda squirted it on the outside of the vagina, the syringe was not pushed in

So now in the cold light of the morning I'm feeling sick and panickig what if I have given myself an infection

Sorry you've been through such a tough time recently.

I don't think you need worry about giving yourself an infection. You'll be fine. If you want, you could see your doctor about trying to conceive again, but I don't think it's an emergency.

Finally, I really don't suggest using the sticks. They can be really distressing and stressful. Given the difficult time you've been through, it probably makes sense to relax as much as possible. At my fertility clinic, they told us not to use them as thee was no positive evidence they worked, and could add stress to an already stressful process.

Good luck.

I know it's different but dp and I made our ds's (one each) using just this method. Ds's dad gave us a sample in a yoghurt pot - clean but not sterile and then we used a clean but not sterile syringe to inject the sperm. No problems, no infections. Worked both times - not the first time although it only took dp 2 months, but I did this over nearly 2 years without problems and finally got ds2!

Most things that get near/in vaginas aren't sterile so I wouldn't be worrying about that - and good luck!

Lost a lot of blood after mc, and was quite anemic for a while. So only just started trying again this month

I'm so worried that when I drew back the sperm into the syringe. Perhaps that sperm could have been infected
And now I'll give myself N infection

Do I need to tell a Dr what I've done, what could anyone do to help me

I'm seriously panicking

Been trying for another for a long time now. My ds died after he was born due to heart problems, then I had a misscarriage missed, in the summer, so had a bit of break to try and let my body recover,as lo

If your cycles are irregular or have always been irregular it is better to seek medical advice sooner rather than later. Usage of OPKs are particularly of no benefit whatsoever in these circumstances.

Such problems are often caused by hormonal imbalances which can be treated.

Er, a penis is not sterile. Tampons and moon cups are not sterile. Air gets pushing into the vagina during sex (the source of the notorious "fanny fart"). Please stop worrying. Post IVF, when you have had needles through the side of your vagina and a tube shoved through your cervix, you insert pessaries with clean, but not sterile, fingers.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/02/2013 08:29

You're unlikely to have given yourself an infection.

Chuck the OV tests out and stop using them, these can cause stress and anxiety too. These are not always accurate either.

SWI is beset with problems; it can make the man feel used (this may be why he is having problems). Make love when you both feel like it, not just when you think its ovulation time which is nigh on impossible to predict anyway with any sure degree of accuracy. Putting such undue pressure on yourselves is not helping so you need a complete rethink.

What are your menstrual cycles like and how long have you been ttc?.

But its not as if everything that touches the vagina is sterile is it.

I'm really regretting doing that now and feel sick with worry
