Old Fred here

Here we go Brookers, it's been a long year with lots of BFPs and newborn snuggles for the Brookers. We're just a sleigh-ride away from 2013, when the rest of us will get our get our 12 week scans (because of course we will all have BFPs under the christmas tree this year!)

So come all ye brookers, it's tinsel and baubels all the way!

Oh, keep, quick question for you while I think on - a member f my weight watchers group is moving to Thailand in a couple of weeks and wanted to know if there are weight watchers branches out there. My leader wasn't sure. Have you seen anything like this on your travels?

ControlGeek · 11/01/2013 13:04

wow you ladies are a chatty lot today! I've not been able to keep up Smile

I didn't get my wedding dress cleaned either. It was bagged, but left in the attic for 11 years so I just threw it in the charity bag when I was having a sort-out before we moved house. The prices charities put on wedding dresses round here, I'm pretty sure they could afford to clean it if they wanted to!

keep I'm just so Shock about the gender selection thing. I didn't realise anywhere offered that, for ethical reasons. I'm also not sure how they would manage it with IUI - would they try the ever so reliable egg white trick or something??

maybe I had to really try very hard not to laugh out loud when I read about the ovulation story - I'd not heard that before! Our poor DHs/DPs. Mind you, I did A-Level Biology and we had to learn about pig reproduction in great detail, including all of the different hormones etc, yet until last year I had no idea about half of the necessary details of how to get pg Blush I thought that as long as we had DTD at least once since my last AF, I was in with a chance Blush Blush It all stems from sex ed at school and them drumming it into us that we could get pregnant at any time, you only had to look at a bloke the wrong way - even on your period!

sparks I remember you ladies having to explain that concept to me and it took a while to make sense. I still don't think it makes much sense, particularly when you've got wildly erratic cycles.

I'm really trying to keep my head in the sand about the whole 'three cycles' thing about IVF. We only get two goes on the NHS, and I can't see that we could ever afford to fund a go ourselves so if it doesn't happen in the first two for us it will be game over. I don't want to have to think about that. I'd much rather we all had our ABBs first go.

Right, time to look like I'm working Grin

NoMaybeAboutIt · 11/01/2013 12:32

Haha Sparks educational AND practical Wink

Family balancing Keep Shock

Withalittlesparkle · 11/01/2013 12:20

gawf gawf @ mrmaybe

On the silly DH note, its taken my this long to get mrsparks to understand the concept of being pregnant before I actually ovulate, as in by the time you ovulation you're already 2 weeks pregnant. he just doesnt understand it at all!!!! Ive bought him a book..... he is using it a coaster!!!

keepitgoing · 11/01/2013 11:43

My wedding dress is dirty too. Surely five year dirt is a bit ingrained...

Assisted Brooking Babies United!!!!

It's a dubious claim to fame for Thailand, gender selection. I'm quite outraged. For genetic diseases, if you can test for sex, can't you test for discard?? I wouldn't put it past the Beckham's. I just googled it and some people call it 'family balancing'...

keepitgoing · 11/01/2013 11:38

Ps maybe that's so ridiculous!!

A three cycle game, I agree that's how I'm thinking of it. Then being lucky in cycle 1 or 2 is a bonus.

keepitgoing · 11/01/2013 11:15

Bonus dtd just to get even more swimmers up there Blush

cartoontrickster · 11/01/2013 11:11

ah thanks cups it was amazing I'd love to do the day again, it goes so fast doesn't it!

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 11/01/2013 10:58

Sweetie I promise any leftover cakes have got your name on them Smile

My dress has just been collected so I'm off to do the food shop. I'll catch up with you all later

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 11/01/2013 10:56

Cartoon you look bloody gorgeous! I love the way you had your hair. I'm feeling all nostalgic, I want to get married again!

SweetieTime · 11/01/2013 10:49

Another with dirty wedding dress hanging in the wardrobe Blush Blush

keep hope you are lying with your feet in the air??

Off subject slightly, who thinks the Beckhams had gender for their DD?

Maybe your dh is so funny, sat here chuckling too. Although not sure how much my dh knows of the actual process of baby making - I might ask for a laugh!!

Cup well done for getting your dh to watch, oh and if you need a cupcake tester I am sure I can oblige Grin Grin Grin

cartoontrickster · 11/01/2013 10:47

done cups

cartoontrickster · 11/01/2013 10:44

no I left face book I put a couple on here let me just switch them back to public for u Grin

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 11/01/2013 10:41

That's the way I'm viewing it Maybe, but being a brooker I KNOW that we will all be getting ironic BFPs before treatment or having nice easy IVF cycles followed by no visits from AF for 9 months.

I like the sound of the assisted brooking babes Smile

Cartoon are you still on fb? I wanted to noisy at your wedding pics but I don't think we are friends on there anymore.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 11/01/2013 10:23

Oh Cup poor MrCup. I know what you mean about being realistic though. A girl I used to work with had IVF. She told me to see the process as a 3 cycle treatment. Her IVF counsellor told her that the success rates quoted are per cycle, but if you look at it over a 3 cycle period, the majority of couples fall pregnant. I think that totally makes sense. And sure enough she has a gorgeous little girl! We shall all get our babies brookers. The Assisted Brooking Babies. Oh yes.

cartoontrickster · 11/01/2013 10:21

haha cups we were also going for the eat it all asap approach but at this rate ill be needing maternity clothes v.soon!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 11/01/2013 10:20

Sorry for making you choke Cups. He's a gem, he really is Grin

Men really are daft Face. We don't have any leftover goodies. We weren't really home the whole festive period so didn't really stock much up. How disappointing!

CupcakesAndMulledWine · 11/01/2013 10:19

Btw I watched the rest of babymakers last night. It mad me so sad, for the couples that were unsuccessful. It was really good for DH to watch as well, it upset him a bit as I think he has been seeing IVF as the answer to all our problems. I don't want him to be upset but I want him to go into all of this with realistic expectations.

CupcakesAndMulledWine · 11/01/2013 10:15

LOL Maybe I remember that story but it still nearly made me choke on my cup of tea. Hilarious Smile

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only slob out there Boo and Maybe wrt wedding dress cleaning. I asked around my friends and they all had theirs done straight after the wedding Shock

Cartoon good luck in resisting leftover goodies. I put mine away a few weeks ago but I keep going and secretly gorging on the stash. The gigs up however as DH found a pile of wrappers in my dressing gown pocket. I've now decided the best course of action is to eat it all ASAP Grin

cartoontrickster · 11/01/2013 10:03

maybe I'm struggling not to laugh out loud at my desk! good god! haha bless him. men are daft

cartoontrickster · 11/01/2013 10:01

cups mines being picked up today too. can't wait to see it all lovely and clean again!
keep am so excited! I think its best u rest! brooking for u.
I have decided to hide all the Xmas chocolate and biscuits we have left at home we've got loads still. one does not need to eat ones weight in miniature heros every night!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 11/01/2013 09:57

Morning all Keep that's fantastic news. Sperm all suited and booted. Sex selection makes me mad too. I'm with Cups on this one.

Oreo cupcakes you say? I could def do with one of those!! I also haven't had my dress cleaned Blush

So, the ovulation story for those of you that dont know.... And bear in mind this was a good year into TTC that MrM said this. I think we were watching a program or something to do with fertility.

me see, this makes it really clear why it can be so hard to fall pregnant each month. There's such a small window of opportunity.

MrM I still don't really get it. Why is it so hard?

Me but they have just explained about ovulation and the timing.

MrM yeah, but there isn't just one egg is there? I mean, you ovulate every time you have an orgasm right?

Me crying with laughter.

Men. Really.

NewYearNewBoo · 11/01/2013 09:25

If he didn't before, he certainly does now Cups Grin arf @ Mr C thinking there was an egg just sort of sitting there waiting Grin they are funny these fellas!

I have not had my dress cleaned yet, I got married a few 6 years ago Blush

Make sure you leave some cake out for us!!!

CupcakesAndMulledWine · 11/01/2013 09:16

I meant my DH thought I would always have an egg ready to be fertilised, he didn't realise ovulation only happened once a cycle.

I'm about to make some Oreo cupcakes for my friends party tomorrow.

CupcakesAndMulledWine · 11/01/2013 09:14

That's great news Keep I had a bizarre image of super fast shiny sperm racing towards your super duper egg when reading your post (I'm not crazy honest Wink) I'm brooking very excitedly for you my dear. Btw sex selection makes me really mad, I only understand it in cases where people carry genetic disorders on certain sexes that are incompatible with life.

Solars I'm in Shock Grin

Boo bless MrBoo, does he know how long pregnancy lasts for?! I love how clueless men are. My DH thought that I would always have a egg to be fertilised. It was only through watching the human body programme that he realised!

I've finally arranged to get my wedding dress cleaned, I got married in 2009! Cartoon you have shamed me into action. Mine is costing £130 to get it cleaned and boxed. It's getting picked up between now and 12 so I'm stuck in the house all morning.
