I have been taking folic acid when I remember the last few weeks or so and came off the pill a few months ago.. I'm not entirely sure of my cycles yet, but think I'm due thurs or fri..

Oh, sorry for the epic post too...

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 04/01/2013 21:57

Hello MrsS, I'm sorry to hear your DP is feeling the pressure. I just wish I had some good advice. I know that if I was a bloke I'd be exactly the same as the slightest thing can stop 'the big O' happening for me Blush

London yes, I had heard about the vendor's death. Is your buyer happy to wait? I am feeling much better, thank you. Very strange bleed this month though. Much shorter and only bright red 'fresh' blood (just like if you'd cut your finger) with no clots whatsoever. Sorry to be so gross but normally I have very obvious bits of womb lining come out and a real 'hotch-potch' of stuff.

On the subject of only children/age gaps etc my 'MIL' said to me (when I was about 4/5 months pregnant) that, if I was only going to have one child, I shouldn't have any at all! Since DD arrived she has never once raised the topic again but it is the sort of comment you never forget.

I accept I'm probably sensitive and impossible to please but I also get annoyed when people are overly 'nice' about single-child families. I have a school-run friend (with three gorgeous boys) that is always saying stuff like "I bet you're so glad you don't have any sibling squabbling to put up with" and "I bet you so glad to be passed the baby phase."

I genuinely can't work out if she thinks having one must be easy-peasy and is just ever so slightly envious at times, or whether it is a subtle but very deliberate way to draw attention to what I don't have (and she does).

I know this is an odd question but - deep down - do you consider your DC to be an "only child?" I know technically Mini Bridget is one, but since we've started trying for DC2 something has gradually shifted in my brain and now I sort of see her as someone whose sibling just hasn't arrived yet. (Sorry if that's as clear as mud!)

MrsSpencerReid · 04/01/2013 18:31

Sorry, wrong thread, but tips on easing the anxiety greatly welcome!

MrsSpencerReid · 04/01/2013 18:23

Oh wow, so many posts!
Am on app so cant see posts to reply to but grrr at AF making so many unwelcome visits. I should ovulate tomorrow but DP is suffering performance anxiety so we haven't managed errr productive DTDing! I haven't told him its O day tomorrow in the hope it might help but I'm already getting my fare ready for the feb bus!

LondonSuperTrooper · 04/01/2013 15:58

bridget not sure whether I've told you or not but the vendor sadly passed away unexpectedly in early December. The property sale needs to go through probate. We are still Interested in buying the house but still keeping an eye on the market for new properties. How are you feeling now? A little better? I really hope so .

bat hope that you will get the results that you want.

Hi to everyone else. I'm on the phone & hence the short post.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 04/01/2013 15:47

Hello fr00tbat glad you've found us but sorry you are having such a worrying time. It is horrible when you've no idea what on earth your body is up to.

I know it is a bit of a trite thing to say but really only time will tell what is happening (it's just hell hanging on in there in the meantime). Try to keep strong.

I hope you get the outcome you're hoping for.

fr00tbat · 04/01/2013 15:04

Just found this thread- keen to join up and would really value the companionship at the moment- dont feel can tslk to anyone.
We have a healthy baby now 12 months old. Had v difficult time TTC #1 and were sure we were going to have issues again this time as wasn't ovulating. Anyway, we weren't careful this month for first time- couldn't face recurrent TWW nightmare if not ovulating properly and weren't planning to start for a few more months for whole host reasons. Anyway, DTD 2.5 days before surprise O, temps confirmed O on CD 19. Spotting- light pink last night. Cramps last 2days, dark red blood today, temp still up. Not due AF until Monday at earliest- I never spot and am panicking a bit. Scared I am, scared am not. IB or early AF - definitely more blood than just spotting- but not painful enough for usual period. Why must there always be doubt!!!!!!!!!!!

cocoachannel · 04/01/2013 13:16

If you make it to Monday before testing you're stronger woman than me! I was terrible with DD to the point I did POAS too early, got a negative, got far too drunk at a party, tested the next morning and there was the BFP. Oops.

Good luck. And step away from the tests Wink

clare8allthepies · 04/01/2013 13:02

Hi, despite me saying earlier that I thought I was out for this month, my boobs are killing me so I'm convincing myself that I must be pregnant! AF due some time mon-wed so will try to restrain myself from POAS until at least Sunday (patience is not my strong point!) Grin

cocoachannel · 04/01/2013 12:11

Oh and in other news AF has arrived which heralds the month of starting TTC (decided not to try until now). So game on I guess.

Given what I said in my last post we have agreed not to use the monitor for the first few months and just see how it goes!

cocoachannel · 04/01/2013 12:09

Hi everyone.

Just to add to the chat about monitors. I used the CBFM to conceive DD. as I'd had an ectopic I thought it would help with track my irregular cycle caused by tube removal. I was very fortunate that I got pregnant firsts to of trying but must admit that DH found my using the monitor quite stressful. In fact the morning which I think DD was conceived was let's say quite a clinical procedure Blush certainly no romance and earth moving!

padster75 · 04/01/2013 11:49

LOL @ the age gaps, we're TTC #2 ......... DS (albeit from my 1st marraige) is 15 (16 in the summer). We've heard all the 'can't have an only child arguments, it didn't wash on me as I am an only child, had a perfectly happy childhood, was never lonely and more than capable of entertaining myself. DH and I have been together 4 years and had a huge amount of speculation as to when we'd produce a child. Being 2 quite stubborn people we're just doing our own thing, everyone doesn't even know we're trying.

petitfromage · 04/01/2013 11:24

Hi bridget! Totally agree re age gaps. Also find some slightly more mature (ok oaps) ladies feel it is within their rights to tell me to have another baby soon as he shouldnt be an only child!! Happened to me recently in middle of tescos. Very tempted to tell her full story (involves Divorce and cancer similar to earlier poster) but just feel like telling them to mind their own business!
Apparently I was told that the French think 6 years is the ideal age gap as there is no competition between siblings and the older one can be a massive help. One of my friends has a 13 month old and due with dd #2 in 3 months....I do NOT envy her!!!
Roll on next couple of weeks so I can test. Quite achy so think maybe there is something going on.... Do I just relax and enjoy birthday fizz later though?!

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 04/01/2013 10:10

Hello petitfromage and many happy returns of the day to Master Fromage!

Really pleased there is a handful of us with bigger gaps than the norm. I always feel a bit funny when people talk about really not wanting a really big age gap between their children and then it turns out their little one is about 18 months and my DD is already 6!

I think most people have pigeon-holed us as a one-child family by now. I have to confess, I do smile when I imagine them seeing a bump and realising another is on the way.

As a very general rule, if test about 14 days after you ovulated you should get a pretty reliable result. If you have no idea when you ov'd, they say a fortnight after you last had unprotected sex.

petitfromage · 04/01/2013 09:48

Morning all, I'm a bit of a newbie - ttc #2 as of two weeks ago when had coil removed! Today is DS 5th birthday so there will be a bit of an age gap (long story like previous poster) but very excited about possibility of doing it all again.
AF due on the 12th but already feeling a but weird, boobs definitely grown but that could be down to all my Christmas munching! Also I'm 39 so the odds of getting pg first month are minimal.....
Bought preg test yesterday just in case!! Now how long to wait till I test.... Any suggestions??

Fridgedooropen · 03/01/2013 23:38

Thanks for the opinions on monitors. I am still tempted to fork out because I have read so many people saying (many on here) how they got pregnant using one very quickly. I know I'm not unusual in wanting things to happen quickly but it would be doubly good for me if they did - as well as my age, I'm on lifelong medication which I will have to come off when TTC/pregnant and the substitute has side effects which will be bad for my health in another way, the more so the longer I'm on it. So it would be enormously helpful for me (& DH) to be able to hit the target Grin asap. With that in mind I am willing to spend the money. It sounds a bit complicated but I will have to study the booklets and the threads on here.

Bridget My plan is to get one later this month ready for my next cycle at the end of Jan/start of Feb.Amazon seem cheapest Smile I'm not trying this month and it will be Feb/March when I start. We are just waiting on some news about a bit of work that may come DH's way - would feel better if that was confirmed. We also had a rather sad 2012 so hope you (and anyone else having a bad time) also get more luck this year.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 03/01/2013 23:26

Oh fridge, I've been thinking of getting the monitor too. My issue is actually getting round to buying one. As I understand it you have to start using it on cycle day 1, but during each cycle I think well I won't get one as I may be pregnant this month and then when AF actually arrives, and I'd like to start using one, I'm too late. And so the pattern goes on..

I'm going to fork out loads of £££s for the clearblue smiley face OPKs this month (a 20 pack). I know deep down I'm kidding myself but want to feel I have a bit more control over things this cycle.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 03/01/2013 22:45

kbaby I hope your Valentine's day scan goes really well. I'll keep everything crossed for you. Well, not everything or I'll never get pregnant Blush

I've tried to catch up with everyone's posts but just got myself into a muddle. I think I'll try to get to know you all as we go along. What do people think of a thread stats list?

111007kbaby · 03/01/2013 11:23

Hi London no exactly how you feel it took me two years to try again after a blighted ovum it is heartbreaking I agree, I think just take the parental vitamins eat healthy also tru conceive plus helped me.
And hi fridgedooropen I used a cbfm but it gave me false negatives and totally sent me mentally insane if I was you I would go at it without 1st my doc said that sex 3 times a week is the perfect way to fal pregnant. So try that 1st.
And London don't let it dishearten you because of the previous miscarriage I no its easy to say because when ppl say it to me I'm like we'll you don't no how it feels, just be positive. Have my 1st scan in the 14 th of feb do every one keep your fingers and toes crossed everything is ok for me :-) xxxx

LondonSuperTrooper · 03/01/2013 10:36

Hey bridget! Welcome back to MN as I really missed you. Big hugs Smile

BridgetandtheHairyBaubles · 03/01/2013 10:32

Hello all,

Any room for another? I'm 36 with a 6 year old DD and we've been trying for number 2 for a year now. I'm really hoping 2013 will be our year as 2012 has been rubbish ttc-wise (a miscarriage at 7 weeks in April/May and a chemical pregnancy last cycle). Not sure how much more heart-ache I can stand.

I tried having a break from Mumsnet a few weeks ago as I thought it was fuelling my angst but just found I was lurking all the time anyway.

Right, got to go as DD is playing a tracy beaker game on our rust bucket of a laptop and starting to have a melt-down as she can't get Tracy to jump over a fridge...

Will try to catch up on earlier posts and post properly tonight - need to ditch the festive name change too...

LondonSuperTrooper · 03/01/2013 09:39

Happy New Year everyone!

I've been away for a few days & now I?m back Smile

111007kbaby This is my first cycle for TTC #2. I had a miscarriage last may (at 8 weeks) and it?s taken me this long to drum up the courage to get on the wagon for TTC again. What made it heartbreaking is that it took me around 10 months to conceive only to miscarry 8 weeks later.

Fridgedooropen I?m not using a fertility monitor. I've been using Clearblue digital OPK and they've been fine. I also have a largish gap and needed to have my DS at school as I couldn't afford to pay for two at once.

I usually ovulate on Day 14 & we DTD on the appropriate days. I?m now on Day 20 of my cycle. I can?t wait till I test next Wednesday (2 days before AF due)! I'm really excited about testing early - how sad am I?! My DH cannot understand why I have to test early. He keeps saying "well surely 2 days will not make a lot of difference" - bah what does he know!

In the meantime I have started walking for exercise and I'm trying to lose as much weight as I can before falling pregnant. I've now joined slimming world as I desperately need to lose the baby weight from having my DS.... almost 6 years ago Blush

Fridgedooropen · 02/01/2013 22:41

Hello, sticking my head around the door as I am also thinking of starting TTC#2 soon. It's not the best time as my DH is out of work atm but I am getting nervous about leaving it too late. I will be 40 next birthday so not got lots of time to waste. My rough plan is to start taking the vitamins asap and begin in Feb/March.

I have one DS already who will start school in the autumn so have left a largish gap, but then I didn't feel like I wanted two close together. Plus I will not be stuck then paying childcare for two at once.

I am seriously thinking about getting a fertility monitor. Has anyone here tried them?

Sunshine28 · 02/01/2013 12:49

Hi ladies - Can I join you please? I have just come off the pill and am 'thinking' about TTC #2. We are officially going to start trying in March but I am getting a bit over-excited about the prospect of adding to our family and may start before then. What sort of age gaps are you all hoping for? xxx

pearl81 · 01/01/2013 16:46

Hi All...
Wishing you all a very happy new year. My AF arrived on 29th Dec and am on 4th day today. It had been really painful throughout also i bled(sry to mention) more than as it used to be. Going to see new gyn tomorrow as i already had a devastating exp with my prev gyn.
