Hi, I will have my first fertility appointment in two weeks. I have PCOS. I'm thinking that they will start me on some sort of ovulating inducing drugs but will I have to get a laparoscopy or the dye thing (can't remember the name of it) before they will agree to start me in treatment! I can't face another waiting list!!

Hey, how is everyone doing? sleepyfergus I read your post, I've always thought about trying agnus castus and then I put myself off it by googling. Is anyone else thinking of trying it? I know you can't take it while on clomid.

I got my letter from the hospital confirming everything and it says I agreed (I didn't) to try clomid for three cycles before moving on to three cycles of IUI if it doesn't work, then IVF. However I'd probably want to try clomid for longer as I know it takes a while for some people - especially if it seems to be working and makes me ovulate once I start it. Bit nervous about it all! No pressure on the next few months then hey Wink

SinkyMalinks · 02/12/2012 11:26

Chantelle, are you asking if you can ovulate in clomid one month, and not the next?

Yes. Sometimes clomid will do the job, sometimes it won't. In some people. I knew when it worked as I would have a 34 day cycle. Longer and I knew I hadn't. I would have a rough idea due to ov pains and cm during the cycle, and was generally right.

It didn't work for me, but it doesn't mean it isn't going to work for you.

Merida · 30/11/2012 15:53

I think it depends on where you live how long you have to wait. We were considering moving house at one point but didn't as we'd have crossed into another area and gone to the bottom of their list despite being over a yeat on in our own area.

I think the term is 'postcode lottery'.

xChantellex · 29/11/2012 20:48

and my cycles were anything from a month to 11 months before. sorry, should put on my glass's as im not reading through everything properly lol x

xChantellex · 29/11/2012 20:46

also wonky, the hsg (dye test) i had was just before they started my treatment so as long as that comes back ok you should start treatment just after x

xChantellex · 29/11/2012 20:34

no they asked for a urine sample which i gave into the reception as they asked me to, it then got sent off for infection testing rather than being handed in for a preg test. i went back the next day as the doc asked me to, and i had to see another doctor who told me the mix up and said she would call my specialist and call me back, she said she didnt want me to do another test as it costs them money and as i had done 2 at home she was gonna go by them. still no call back from the doc as she said so not sure where to go from here. it's difficult to contact my specialist as i'm always getting passed through different and never to the one i need.

WonkyWilly · 29/11/2012 20:25

Hi xChantellex I have not been through clomid but can't help there! So have you not had a period since September? If not have you had cycles this long before? It's difficult to know, but if two tests came back negative they are pretty accurate I think! Though maybe you done the tests too early?? Did they doctor take a urine sample to test?

Can any1 help me? posted this same message on a few forums without a response so sorry if u have had to endure this message again lol. I haven't had regular periods since i can remember, as i was trying to concieve with no luck i went doc's and had tests etc which confirmed i had pcos. I started treatment (clomid) 1st June, that first month i didn't ovulate to a satisfactory level but still produced an egg, I also had all the typical symptoms clomid produces, very sore boobs, hot flashes and dizzy spells and then i had a period 30th June. I went for more tests mid june and it was confirmed i had ovulated and so i had a period end of july and then again end of august. both months i had side effects from the clomid. Then in september I had no side effects, and no period. I have taken 2 pregnancy tests which have came back negative and although i went to my doctor to get answers as i couldnt get in touch with the specialist, they have refused to test me there as it costs them to do it. I have been getting stomach pains simular to mild period pains on and off, feel mildly sick daily and have had lower back ache on and off for about 3 weeks and also feel bloated but as I have never had a positive test before I am unsure whether it means anything or not? or whether it is just a sickness bug maybe? has any1 with pcos on clomid been confirmed with ovulating for it to just stop? cant find anything anywhere online about it.

Sleepyfergus · 29/11/2012 19:50

My experience is from some time ago but thought I would share in case it helps.

We were sent to fertility clinic as my periods were all over the place, anything from 30 days to 6 months. Impossible to know if or when I was ovulating. DH had SA and came back fine. Diagnosis was that I was having probs ovulating, so was prescribed clomid.

Started off on 50mg and I wasn't scanned. Instead, I had to take a wee sample every week, freeze it, and then hand them in every month or so. They would then report back if I had ovulated or not, and amend the dosage if they felt appropriate. It was a fairly reactive process and quite frustrating. Sometimes I wouldn't get AF, so had to get a prescription of xxx (can't remember the name of it - sorry!) to start it so I could start the next round of clomid. To cut a long story short, I did 14 cycles of clomid. I did get a bfp on cycle 8 but it sadly ended up a MMC at 10 weeks. My cycles did end up refaring somewhat, but lasted 35 days or so. I also had a couple of HSGs along the way to check my tubes. I used a Clearblue digital monitor and digital ov sticks to monitor my cycle. And a horrifically sophisticated excel spreadsheet at work - think it was my way of coping.

After cycle 14, they allowed me to try ovulation induction, which was injecting the same drugs as IVF (but in much smaller doses) to stimulate my follicles, and I was scanned every 3 days to track what was happening. When one or two follicles looked 'ripe' I was given a trigger shot to make me ovulate. On cycle 2 it worked, and dd is now 3. We had been ttc for 3.5 years when we conceived.

We decided to try again when dd approached 1.5 but were on our own as no longer eligible for treatment. I lost a stone, used Agnus Castus (some call it natures clomid) to help regulate my cycles, and we conceived after 6 months. Dd2 us now 5 months (and i was 40 when i had her)! I defo feel losing weight and having been pregnant helped right my system somehow.

I wish you the best of luck. I hope it's a short road to success, and that you conceive soon.

Picklepepperpiper · 29/11/2012 19:00

It varied month to month, I usually went 35 days and would have to go for bloods at 21 and 28 days. Ovulation sticks didn't seem to work we just tried to have sex every 2 - 3 days until I was told I had already ovulated.

Charlotte321 · 29/11/2012 18:22

How did it affect your cycles, does it bring them down to around 28 days? Did you do ovulation sticks and how did you time sex around it? Sorry to quiz you, but you are a BFP guru after all! ;)

Picklepepperpiper · 29/11/2012 17:43

I had 4 cycles and ovulated for 3 of them. I didn't have scans just bloods at 21 days.

Started with 50mg and ovulated, 2nd cycle didn't work so was upped to 100mg for the next 2 cycles.

WonkyWilly · 29/11/2012 17:11

Christelle I can just see that happening me my cycles just love to be awkward! Oh congrats on the bfp...that must be so exciting! Just imagine this Christmas knowing that next Christmas Santa will be visiting your little one!

Charlotte I can give you a loan of a couple of stone if you want....trust me I have plenty to share Grin Wink oh and sex......fun??? Ooops I forgot about that lol
Oh pickle you must be so excited....how many rounds of clomid did it take?

OP posts:
Christelle2207 · 29/11/2012 17:07

for me it partly took ages because i had one stupidly long cycle and i could only book in for hsg on day 1. I got scan on first month of clomid- they found one juicy follicle and i got bfp on tuesday!!!!

Charlotte321 · 29/11/2012 17:03

Oh and pickle yay! How many cycles for you before it worked?

Charlotte321 · 29/11/2012 17:03

ps stephy just got my first prescription but might have to wait until Feb as worried the hospital will be closed and I'm on hols in Jan. It's bad they're not monitoring you though but I hope it works for you x

Charlotte321 · 29/11/2012 17:01

I've heard losing weight helps kickstart ovulation! Sounds silly but I was sad I wasn't overweight when I heard that as I can't try that! Grin

Yeah my consultant didn't even bother with day 21 - I think because of my cycles and the fact that with PCOS it doesn't work as a test, as you either ovulate really late or not at all.

I know what you mean about the trying wonky - my acupuncturist asked me how my libido was the other day. What, you mean sex is meant to be fun? I'd forgotten that! Grin

Stephy30 · 29/11/2012 16:59

Yes I would think so too wonky.
Charlotte im doing ok on clomid im a little sensative with oh at times lol.ive tried to stay calm about it and gonna use ov tests this month to help x are you on it too x

Picklepepperpiper · 29/11/2012 16:58

I started my first round of clomid on the 30th nov last year and I am now 38 + 3 weeks.

I too have PCOS. We has our first appointment in sept and I had to do he dye in the tubes test first and it was all clear. Clomid was great for me! Good luck

WonkyWilly · 29/11/2012 16:56

Stephy it is disgraceful that some ladies don't get scans while on clomid...I would imagine that scans are essential?!

OP posts:
Charlotte321 · 29/11/2012 16:56

How are you doing with the clomid stephy? Are you able to monitor yourself at all - looking for ovulation signs etc? Good luck x

WonkyWilly · 29/11/2012 16:55

Charlotte my gp thinks I'm not ovulating, we have been trying two years now (really trying every second night I never want to see a penis again if I ever get bfp) so I think if I had been ovulating we surely would have caught it! Though my gp came to that conclusion after low progesterone from day 21 bloods but considering my long cycles I don't really know how accurate day 21 can be for me!
Stephy good luck with the clomid!

I still need to loose two more stone so I'm wondering if that may help regarding ovulation!
