But I understood that if the rescheduled departure date is on a different date to the original date then they had to sort you out with a hotel room?

Quodlibet · 30/10/2012 23:26

No that's a lost cause. Only another 2hrs 45 mins on this metal chair, after all.

Pipbin · 30/10/2012 23:20

But are they going to sort you out with a bed for the night?

Quodlibet · 30/10/2012 23:18

Thanks ladies. Luckily with all this time to kill and free internet I've also come across the EU ruling on regulation 261/2004 (Sturgeon v Condor, and Bock v Air France, C-402/07 and C-432/07), which ruled essentially that once a delay is more than 3 hours, it's effectively a cancellation. And that technical/mechanical failure is not 'extraordinary circumstances.'

400 euros please Easyjet.

Off to pursue my right to a Telex now.

Pipbin · 30/10/2012 22:56

Other than feeling very old I'm OK thanks Bunny.
I have a dreadful case of green eyedness almost constantly. Every woman out there is either pg or has a baby. In fact I think that all the woman in the world who don't get pg by just looking at a man in a funny way is posting on this forum.

I have AF visiting right now but at least I'm off work and I am lucky to have very light and pain free periods.
Off to the clinic tomorrow.

Bunnygirlie · 30/10/2012 22:42

So part from being stuck in an airport how are we all today?

Had a bad case of the green eyed monster today, not only is every stranger in the street either PG or has new baby I also have to cope with seeing one of my closest friends every day ( as I work with her) who is heavily pregnant, was talking to her today and seeing her massive tummy just gave me a huge pang of jealousy :-(

A telex was like a fax but rather than sending a copy of the document you typed it in at one end and it came out the other, a bit like email but with two typewriter connected with string.
Mainly used in police stations, newspaper offices, fire stations and the like.
I remember seeing one when I was at a BBC local radio station. I used to edit reel to reel tape.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telex

I'm off into a corner to feel old now.

janey1234 · 30/10/2012 22:24

What is a telex machine?! What with that and biscuits I feel like I'm learning a lot from you ladies... Or maybe I'm just a thickie...

Pipbin · 30/10/2012 22:12

I like that you are entitled to access to a fax or telex machine. Demand a telex machine, that'll keep them busy.

janey1234 · 30/10/2012 22:09

In addition they are supposed to give you information about the eu law at the time (eg a leaflet) - one of the things I got BA on. Of course, they generally don't want you to be aware of your rights so would rather not.

Similarly try to find out why it's cancelled - if it is indeed mechanical failure you can argue it's their fault for not maintaining the plans properly. That's what I did - and won Smile

V interesting re Gordon brown. Although I do quite fancy a Biscuit now in real life, but don't have any in the house...

Pipbin · 30/10/2012 22:02

Quoid according to EU regulation 261/2004 you are entitled to accommodation if the flight is delayed until the day after the flight.

I quote:
Right to care

  1. Where reference is made to this Article, passengers shall be offered free of charge:
(a) (b) (c) meals and refreshments in a reasonable relation to the waiting time; hotel accommodation in cases ? where a stay of one or more nights becomes necessary, or ? where a stay additional to that intended by the passenger becomes necessary; transport between the airport and place of accommodation (hotel or other).

Here is a link to the PDF of the regulation:

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 30/10/2012 21:51

It was a Gordon brown thing - news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8312215.stm though I'm not COMPLETELY sure what it means. I think something like "have a biscuit and shut up"? Not sure.

Quodlibet · 30/10/2012 21:49

I bloody love a complaint too. The customer relations woman has been spectacularly insensitive to one of the passengers in a wheelchair too - essentially asking them publicly and loudly in front of the whole shushed room what their additional needs were and 'whether they thought they would make it through the night'.ShockShockShock

janey1234 · 30/10/2012 21:47

Pip - now I do know what a biscuit is. But what I don't understand is when you should use it - have you seen some people just put that without a comment? Seems to happen a lot in AIBU?

janey1234 · 30/10/2012 21:45

Oh quod, not what you need esp when pg. Sad

Check out the EU rules on delayed flights and cancellations - not much consolation but you might be entitled to some compensation. You might have to fight it but could be worth it - I ended up taking BA to the small claims court after a cancelled flight from New York, think I got about 600euro compensation from them in the end.... I bloody love a complaint...

Pipbin · 30/10/2012 21:43

It's a biscuit Janey

That sucks hugely Quod, play the pregnant woman card, I would.

Quodlibet · 30/10/2012 21:30

Well this is shit. Plane scheduled for 20.45 broke down. The earliest they can get a replacement out here is 04.15am!!! In the meantime we are offered a 9 euro voucher to spend in the tiny cafe. No hotel, not even a blanket. I am going to end up landing at 6am UK time having had no sleep, which also means my day of (freelance) work tomorrow is a write off. SOOO CROSS!!!

janey1234 · 30/10/2012 21:18

(Not sure about my use of the Hmm face then, but is by far my fave of the options available. Anyone got any idea what this Biscuit is for?!)

janey1234 · 30/10/2012 21:16

Hats off to your DH pip! Does indeed sound tiring but sure it's worth a shot (if you can avoid cystitis and sore bits!). Hell there are more annoying things than having to DTD a lot (and I speak from bitter experience - was single on and off for five years, including a 12 month stretch with no DingTD at all Hmm)

janey1234 · 30/10/2012 21:00

Rach oh yes the fun of potty-training puppies. Ours woke us up whining and still left surprises!

As for me, I haven't told anybody yet (well DH and doctors, of course) but I work as a lawyer, so lying not a problem Grin
