Morning Elderberrys (that's a good title for the next thread when this is full!)

I always wonder what exactly they think I should have done. Have children when I didn't want them, couldn't afford them and with men who didn't want to be parents? Yes sure, that sounds like a smart idea.

Lolcbcblemonlime · 21/09/2012 07:41

Haha loving the old ladies chat!
Well I married the wrong man (as you do) and spent 8 years with him. The thought of kids freaked me out.
I'm now 38, have been with the (right) husband for 5. Have a job that pays close to 50k, a lovely house and healthy savings for the future. I would not have done it differently.
Had a mc in July and was almost made to feel I deserved it as I'm so old!
This Fred is bringing a smile to my face Smile

bingeddybongo · 21/09/2012 06:21

Thanks for the lovely welcome! waves back at everybody

All but one of my friends are elderberry pavlovas so thankfully I don't feel too decrepit. Although I am feeling a bit late to the game! Very glad to have found you all :)

Pipbin · 21/09/2012 00:03

Well it seems that I have ov'd a week early here.
Therefore AF is due on the 1st October.
Would someone mind adding me on the list as I'm on my phone.

On the subject of being an elderberry pavlova, a friend of mine left school, went to college, then teacher training college, got married and had her first baby at 25 and had elderly first time mother put on her notes. She took great exception and pointed out that she couldn't have done it any quicker if she tried.

Rache1S · 20/09/2012 23:57

AF just turned up Sad Oh well, back to square one and the bottom of the list lol! Best of British to everyone else though, I've got everything crossed for you all. There must be some BFP's for at least a couple of us! Grin

Quodlibet · 20/09/2012 23:36

For some reason Primigravida sounds like some sort of trifle to me.
Elderberry Primigravida, anyone?

Welcome Bing.
Zombie, leave your poor boobs alone woman!

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 20/09/2012 23:14

I meant wannabe elderly primagravidas!

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 20/09/2012 23:14

Yes we antique elderly primagravidas must stick together GrinGrin loving this thread too!

janey1234 · 20/09/2012 23:11

Hi Bing

Loving our over-30's gang Smile

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 20/09/2012 22:11

Welcome bing!

bingeddybongo · 20/09/2012 22:06

Hello! I'm very excited to have found the over 30s party :) Please may I join in? I'm 33, been married about two and a half years and we started trying, impromptu, last weekend. And then DH went away for work for a week, haha. So I reckon I'm either going to have conceived on Sunday afternoon or it's going to take 5 years ;)

So: bingeddybongo - 33, Cycle 1, AF due I somewhere around 5th-7th October, depending on when she fancies turning up

janey1234 · 20/09/2012 21:25

Bloody Daily Wail. Worst paper ever.

Ugh.

(have to admit slight bias due to working for a national newspaper myself)

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 20/09/2012 20:14

Bloody hell, here we go again
She. Left. It. Till. Too. Late.
Let that be a cautionary tale to the rest of Wimminkind.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 20/09/2012 18:11

prodding my boobs till blue in the face no signs! Wasn't expecting any but hate being proved right!

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 20/09/2012 17:44

Well I happened to see the entire series of some 16 and Pregnant bloody addictive carcrash telly and watched Teen Mom too and frankly realised how badly I personally would have reacted had I had to have a child too soon I'll react badly if I can never have one too sob

HazleNutt · 20/09/2012 16:36

Well at that time in my original country you were considered an old maid if you were still single at 22..so I guess everybody agreed that 25 was, indeed, ancient. At the same time, in another country my MIL had DH when she was 37. Much more reasonable age, I say.

janey1234 · 20/09/2012 16:23

Love that Hazle Smile

I think it's just the being referred to as 'elderly' that depresses me - how did your Mum cope with it at 25?!

HazleNutt · 20/09/2012 15:55

So what? It's great to be an older not too young mother!

Children of older mothers benefit from improved health and language development. Increasing maternal age was associated with children having fewer hospital admissions and accidents and fewer social and emotional difficulties.

"Basically once the risks around pregnancy and birth of older mothers have been negotiated, older mothers often have greater commitment to parenting, more settled home lives and/or careers, more stable relationships, and more experience generally which all gives them greater confidence" Dr Edward Melhuish, Professor of Human Development at Birkbeck, University of London and one of the authors of the study says.

janey1234 · 20/09/2012 15:47

ps slightly depressed about the fact that I actually AM an 'elderly primigravida'

Sad
janey1234 · 20/09/2012 15:39

You are SO right quod. I mean, why are we worrying about careers or saving for houses, or indeed finding a decent man? Surely we should just shut up, get knocked up, and think about fluffy kittens... Wink

Quodlibet · 20/09/2012 15:11

Because, Hazle, it is clearly important to point out that we have brought this on ourselves. It is a self-inflicted medical issue - we should have knuckled down to the childbearing earlier.

HazleNutt · 20/09/2012 14:54

Grin janey.
I wonder in what way is the reason why we did not have kids in our 20's relevant for a medical dictionary anyway? I doubt the risks are different depending on if the reason was saving for a house/pursuing career/useless boyfriends.

janey1234 · 20/09/2012 14:41

Hazle - that's unbelievable. To pursue a career? What on earth?!

elderly primigravida
Obstetrics A woman who delivers her first child after age 35; these women are often professionals who delay childbearing due to previous boyfriends all being totally and utterly useless

Quodlibet · 20/09/2012 13:19

Lol at 'is it worth shagging tonight?'! Glad it's not just us who have these unromantic conversations...We have developed a system in our house now where DP is put on Amber Sex Alert which progresses to Red Sex Alert. He then gets informed when Red Sex Alert is over.

Hazle that primigravida thing makes me cross too.
