Anyone else waiting to TTC?

There was a thread here a while back but I seem to have lost it.

DH and I have decided to start trying in Jan, but I am now getting very impatient! We're going on hols in Dec to sonewhere it would be pretty hideous to be suffering with early pregnancy symptoms, so it makes perfect sense to wait, but it's driving me mad!

It's not so long ago that I was in two minds about getting started and holding on for as long as possible Hmm

Anyone in the same/similar boat?

In am 31. We've been married a couple of years, house and house situation seem sorted and now seems like the right time.

Malteser did you find ov tests useful the first time round? Did you use them from the start?

Thundercatz · 20/09/2012 15:16

I'm in a similar position re credit cards - we bought a house a year ago but spent lots on it (with more to spend still but that will have to wait)and we want to ensure we are debt free with some buffer savings before mat leave and then extortionate childcare costs!
I think age only concerns me to the extent that it may happen quickly or may take years - it's hard feeling so out of control of timings but I guess there are advantages to it taking a while in terms of financial stability. JobCar are you intended to clear debt before starting or before birth? We are aiming for before ttc though there may be a month or so overlap which is fine.

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 20/09/2012 15:00

DP and I will both be 27 when we start TTC for our first in the new year

Am terrified of not being prepared financially so want to clear credit cards before we even start

DP wants us to start on honeymoon in a few weeks but I can't agree with so much wedding debt to pay off!

BoyMeetsWorld · 20/09/2012 13:42

28 (same as DH) with a 3 year old already. No more DCs for me after 30 (just personal choice - want to focus on career) so need to get crackingWink

Malteaser1982 · 20/09/2012 13:25

May I join please? I popped the last pill today, with the intention of waiting 3 months for things to setlle down a bit (also because we'll be doing some major structural works at our home in the coming months), and then start TTC#2 next January.

We already have a daughter (22 months). I'm 30 and DH 31.

I already stocked up on cheap internet ovulation and pregnancy tests, and intend to start taking folic acid soon.

MTBMummy · 20/09/2012 13:17

well I'm 34 and DH is 37 - but this will be our second, DD is almost 3 and we left it later than we would have liked.

Thundercatz · 20/09/2012 12:50

Good that we have a sizeable group! It's hard keeping schtum in the real world so good to meet others in the same situ and equally impatient excited!
Yep roll on jan exercise regime! (I hope I don't get too controlling about it and take out all the fun!)
How old is everyone? Just wondering if age has been a relevant factor in your choosing to plan to ttc? I'm 30 and dh is 31 - I think I got my wake up call turning 30 - nothing alarming - just being conscious that it's the start of the decade I had in mind for baby making - sneaked up on me before I knew it!
Good luck pink in regulating -I hope it happens quickly. I took ages but have always been irregular but it seems a lot of women only take a month or two.

pinkbuttons · 20/09/2012 11:09

Hi all can I join,
I have DS who is 20 months and we were hoping to start TTC this month, but a few weeks ago was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and apparently having not normal thyroid hormone levels can affect any unborn baby, started medication a couple of weeks ago and now have to wait until my hormone levels are normal which will hopefully be before christmas, or even better before my anniversary in November!!
Came of the contraceptive patch last month and am going to stay off it and give my body time to get back to regular cycles.
Glad to have found you all to keep me sane sensible over the next few months of waiting

LadyEmmaHamilton · 20/09/2012 10:49

Sounds like there be will when quite a lot of unusual exercise regimes starting in January :)

I haven't yet but will tell my sister - she already has a DS so she's been through it all before. Plus if there are problems it will be nice to have someone other than DH who can commiserate.

Folic acid I think one month is fine as i think the aim is to build up some supplies before you actually conceive although ive seen 3 months reccommended too and it is safe to take so thought I'd get going on it. They are tiny little pills anyway! Good luck to those starting in 11 days -how exciting!

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 20/09/2012 08:44

Can I join? I'm waiting until January - wedding coming up in October and so need to pay off that before we start.

How far in advance do you think I should start taking folic acid? Nurse said 1 mth before but I have read 3 months before too?

Got my last prescription of pill this week, think will aim to stop in December some time

MTBMummy · 20/09/2012 08:38

Folic acid good call - will have to nip out to the pharmacy at lunch.

I'm in that awkward position that I'm going to be ovulating this weekend, but we agreed to wait until the 1st October to start trying - that said DD was conceived while on the pill so who knows what will happen.

OrangeLily · 19/09/2012 22:47

Me too!! November for us! Our new house should be have all the boxes ticked for the mortgage by the end of this week!

A bit worried as had implant out early August, had a period about 2 weeks after and nothing since then. On day 37 or something by now Confused

I know it takes time for your body to settle but Angry, want to be able to have babies as soon as we can! Not to finally be the right time and I'm not actually ovulating.

On the folic acid, there's nothing else for it!

Thundercatz · 19/09/2012 22:16

Yep I think the folic is about being pro-active as there is not much else I can do yet and am the impatient sort! Actually one other thing I did yesterday was pick up some conceive plus too Boy - "just in case it got to jan and I was caught short!" what are the chances?! Blush

have any of you guys told anyone in the real world about your intended start date/month (other than gp)? We haven't as don't know how long it might take and don't want the pressure (however well intended)

BoyMeetsWorld · 19/09/2012 22:05

I'll go for 11 days too I think (subject to change :p)

Off to get some folic this weekend. Oh, and 'conception lube' lol. The glamorous world of PreTTC Blush

LadyEmmaHamilton · 19/09/2012 21:55

Hi Thundercatz.

So now we've got:

LadyEmma, Thundercatz and Luisa (possibly) starting Jan 2013, Emmylu starting in December PurpleMonster and MTBMummy starting in 11 days and poor Orange waiting until 2014! Oh, and Boy starting... sometime soon.

Thundercatz in interested to hear that you are already taking folic acid. My GP said not to bother, but I can see that the thought that you are taking positive steps is very attractive!

Thundercatz · 19/09/2012 21:23

LadyEm i came off the pill 10 months ago and only now starting to regulate! Other than that just taking folic, eating well and exercising...was actually very exciting just buying folic acid and getting cracking on it! Feels like I'm doing something ...! Smile

Thundercatz · 19/09/2012 21:18

Hi all can I join? We are waiting to start in Jan and (at least I am) getting very excited. Dh less so but is on board but I guess it's more abstract to him and more scary. Ultimately there never seems to be quite the right time for finances etc and partly we're just nervous but I think we have to bite the bullet as I cant think of anything worse than a life without kids ever. I think I'll be scared/nervous come Jan but lets see!! Defo v interested in all things pregnancy related at the mo!

LadyEmmaHamilton · 19/09/2012 19:33

Have any of you started any special regimes in preparation for TTC? Other than the usual come off the pill/stop other forms of contraception.

OP posts:
Purplemonster · 19/09/2012 16:36

Me too MTBMummy! Gone from impatient to excited to actually quite scared now. Daft.

BoyMeetsWorld · 19/09/2012 16:26

Oh & for meds not sure...I'm going for 3 months to be safe but started a while back thankfully!!

BoyMeetsWorld · 19/09/2012 16:25

Hi mirai well I was concerned about this having read various things claiming trying too early after Mirena can cause MC. Asked doc at removal - he said wait till period returns (however light) then good to go Wink

MTBMummy · 19/09/2012 14:03

Hi Purple - 11 days here too, kind of nervous to be honest :)

Purplemonster · 19/09/2012 13:29

11 more days to wait for me, not that I'm counting Grin
