Anyone else waiting to TTC?

There was a thread here a while back but I seem to have lost it.

DH and I have decided to start trying in Jan, but I am now getting very impatient! We're going on hols in Dec to sonewhere it would be pretty hideous to be suffering with early pregnancy symptoms, so it makes perfect sense to wait, but it's driving me mad!

It's not so long ago that I was in two minds about getting started and holding on for as long as possible Hmm

Anyone in the same/similar boat?

Hi yes this will be #1 we are both very excited! I think I am going to have to get used to all the acronyms on here, and about ovulation windows etc !

We currently rent a two bed place and were thinking of buying somewhere next year. I have had a change of heart however as we live in such a nice area at the moment and couldn't afford to stay here. So thinking of waiting a year or 2 until we can upgrade to a 3 bed place in the area we live at the moment ?

Maternity leave package wise I am a children's nurse so get full NHS benefits which is pretty good, I would hope to take a year off.

juneybean · 01/10/2012 20:53

FF auto-detected my ovulation as day 16 this month, however it was day 14 that I got a positive OPK. Is this about right? I guess I could IUI between 14 and 16?

Thundercatz · 01/10/2012 19:00

Good luck with your house move kitten hope its not too hectic.. and leave the 3rd bedrm untouched ready for nursery when the time is rIght! Our third bedroom was already decorated and used as nursery so we just leave it unused right now!

Thundercatz · 01/10/2012 18:56

Sorry please ignore and hope you can read through many typos - need to stop typing on phone on train! Blush

Thundercatz · 01/10/2012 18:54

Omg do bought tcoyf.. Have lightly read about half of it and it's an interesting read. Kinda scary that it asserts that there's only a few days per cycle you have any chance of conceiving.,.esp for Ida's I have v long and pretty irregular cycles (no pcos or other reason
detected for this Confused so that might mean only a few days every 2 months to even have a chance of conceiving during! That's ignoring anovulatory cycles - aargh maybe toouch info is scary! Anyway I was wavering between jan and April to start (as April would financially be better) and reading tcoyf has prompted me to stick to jan for head start purposes..
Welcome patience - will this be your first?
I'm only entittled to stat mat leave which is another issue to worry about financially as loss of salary will be huge hit for us! Just out of interest do most of you have decent mat pay packages?

On a side note saw a cute toddler today and felt warm and fuzzy thinking one day soon I will have one of my very own! Smile

patience12 · 01/10/2012 16:35

Hello ! Please can I join ?
We are waiting until March 2013 feels a lifetime away Sad. It s because I am about to start a new job. DP would be happy to ttc now but I want to wait until I am settled and get the full maternity package ! Its hard though as its all I can think about Blush.

KittenCamile · 29/09/2012 17:37

I started on the folic acid yesterday. Bought I home and DP gor so excited he wants to start ttc now! Not really sure what happened there. Maybe something like that made it seem quite real.

I'm ovulating today though but I have a huge show for work on oct 20th so really don't think we should this month. This maybe my last big show for a few years so I kind of want to enjoy it.

We move house on tuesday and I know the third bedroom will make me all broody though.

Hi DamnTheManSaveTheEmpire!

Maybe it will be good for us to not be in control of something so big and important Thundercatz, you can't totally control kids so probably a good learning curve!

DamnTheManSaveTheEmpire · 29/09/2012 14:14

We're trying for #2 in jan too....can't wait. Starting folic acid next month.

Thundercatz · 28/09/2012 08:16

Yep it's the lack of control - you took the words right out of my mouth kitten. Im the same with work etc too - used to "having a plan abs achieving it"! Trying though to enjoy this wtttc time for the exciting time that it is - its so nice to be able share thoughts that probably just sound a bit wierd in real life! Se here - My dh is kind of excited but I think it's just so much more abstract to him and so in some ways too hard to imagine to get truly excited about yet... Also he is more scared than I am about the life adjustments and hard work that raising a child involves... and so he is far from obsessive at this stage and I don't want to talk to anyone else about it yet.
Have a good Friday everyone! Grin

KittenCamile · 28/09/2012 07:55

Thundercatz, that's the thing I think, being able to save for the future. I feel (for us) we can save better with no risk of having to dip into those savings for the house if something goes wrong (although the car is another matter!)

Yeah my fear comes from it being such an important thing too, I'm a bit controlling about my life in away, more so with work than anything and the idea that something THIS important to me has to be left to chance drives me crazy! That's why we are not going to chart or do ovulation sticks unless I don't get pregnant in the first 6 months because I know I will get obsessed and take all the fun out of it! :)

I'm doing the same as you, starting early incase it takes forever. Your right, all the horror stories just make you think its verging on impossible to get up the duff.

God though if men felt like we do now there would probably be a hell of a lot more babies out there! DP just can't understand excatly how I feel and sometimes when I tell him he thinks I'm a bit mad tbh. Its so nice to talk to women who don't think I'm a baby obsessed mad thing!

Thundercatz · 28/09/2012 00:03

Yep completely see why renting makes sense.. Had the same thoughts when we were about to buy esp as our mortgage is huge ( high interest) and the fact you are responsible for all the things that need fixing etc... Its a money pit.. We bought with the hope that long term as mortgage decreases the equity will be some security..and hopefully this will happen. But equally can see the benefit if paying lower rent and saving your money elsewhere for the long term. Nowadays property is so expensive (am in London so we feel it badly too) I agree that not being a homeowner shouldn't stop you from having kids - as long as you save elsewhere for the future.

So funny you say you are scared kitten - that's exactly my fear - not rational but I've always had it, for some reason - maybe because having kids eventually is probably one of the most important features of my "life plan" it's terrifying to even imagine it not happening. On the positive side, I think we worry too much nowadays we have access to somuch info you end up hearing so many stories of infertility that prob make it seem like it's lurking on every corner. That's what confuses me too, we were going to start around April but then the fear of it being tough/impossible has scared me into a Jan start as I don't want to ever regret not giving us that head start if it does prove difficult. why don't men ever think crazy thoughts like this!!?! Confused hormones?

Thanks for the recommendation - will try and pop into a waterstones tomorrow..

KittenCamile · 27/09/2012 23:28

I live in the south east and 3 bedroom houses near a decent train station (both DP and I commute) cost so much I can't ever really aspire to own anywhere lovely but can rent somewhere far better. DP had his house nearly reposesed while with his exw when DSD was small so I guess that adds to my fear of looseing everything while having a DC. In a rented place I feel sucure that I can downsize and save money with just a months notice, no risk of loosing everything. If that makes sense!

I think Jane is a great name for a house!

This will (hopefully!) Be my first, but I'm petrified of not being able to have a baby, like scared to my bones. I would give up everything but an so nervous about starting ttc incase it doesn't happen, I can see I'm not alone in that, it helps so much seeing other women having the same thoughts. Its what my baby should do but I'm so scared it won't!

I would totally recommend that book, it has been a great read and really helpful, has kept my mind on ttc without being obsesed.

Halfling · 27/09/2012 21:48

Can I join? Planning to start ttc in Jan, 2013. We are travelling halfway across the globe to attend a family event in Dec, so waiting till then.

Was hoping to lose a stone before getting pregnant again, but I suppose that is not happening.

Good idea about the folic acid. The first time with DS, I got pregnant on a whim and the very first time we tried. But after a massive haemorrhage and many post pregnancy complications later, I think it is going to be tougher this time around.

Thundercatz · 27/09/2012 21:40

Frickin agree with you too - ideal time for us wouldn't be to fall preg as soon as we start ttc in jan - but I'm assuming it will take a few months - and if it happened immediately I know we would be over the moon and feel blessed. I guess I'm trying to hedge my bets and see the advantages of a baby in a year and a baby in 1.5-2 years instead ..!

Thundercatz · 27/09/2012 21:35

Sorry - my house is not called Jane - that is supposed to read "have" am on train on my phone !! Smile

Thundercatz · 27/09/2012 21:33

Faithful so much of what you've said sounds like exactly the thoughts and concerns going through our heads. We are fortunate enough to Jane bought a house that is spacious enough for a small family but we have a huge mortgage and have incurred lots of debt in spending on it... Now we are desperately trying to pay it off before having a baby. Though financially it would make sense not to even start trying for a year+ ultimately we both agreed to put a deadline on it by which date we have ttc even though financially its not perfect plus we are nervous not quite ready. That's because of age -im 30 and dh 31 so we think there's come a point where we just need to get on with it - terrifying as it is!!! Kitten that leads me to answer your question I guess I'm
Concentrating on the carefree comfort of current life to try and keep me patient - it is hard though as I'm incredibly excited! I feel paradoxical!
So do you guys recommend tcoyf? I have seen good reviews but am scared it might make me obsessive ... What do you think?

FrickinAnnoyed · 27/09/2012 20:48

I know you're not supposed to moan about having to be sober for nine months, but I can't say I'm looking forward to it! Smile Especially in the first few months when you don't want to have to explain myself. People knew the instant I was drinking when I was preg before. And a lot of my (limited) social life invokes muchos wine! Grin

FrickinAnnoyed · 27/09/2012 20:25

I suppose it's having that option kitten. If we had a baby it would kill any option of owning a home ever.

KittenCamile · 27/09/2012 19:25

FrickinAnnoyed I'm so sorry about you MC, I had one 4 years ago. You have my deepest sympathy. X

KittenCamile · 27/09/2012 19:24

faithfulandtruthful I'm so sorry, I can't imagine how hard it must be for you. I hope you can sort something out that works for you.

We have actually just sold our house and are now renting a bigger place because its cheaper and we couldn't afford a 3 bed in a nice area if we buy. I don't see why owning a house before having a baby is so important. Now if anything goes wrong in our new rented place we simply phone someone and it gets fixed, no saving for it or anything. Plus if our money situation changes we can move quickly to somewhere cheaper and not risk looseing our house.

I'm quite shocked that owning a house would make people put off having a baby. Not ment to offend just didn't realise it was so important to people.

I'm reading Taking control of your fertility as well, its so interesting! I have learnt so much about my body and your right it does help get you ready for ttc. I'm not charting as we are just going to stop using condoms and see how we go for a while but it has helped me be able to tell when I'm ovulateing etc. It will come in handy if we haven't got a BFP in 6 months.

FrickinAnnoyed · 27/09/2012 18:02

I am in the same position faithful. We don't own a home and wonder how far we should get in saving before having a family. A deposit for us will be another 4-5 years saving. Even moving to a bigger flat and paying nursery fees will add £1500 to our monthly outgoings which of course will kill saving all together. I am 30, but DP is younger - so age an issue for me.

We got preg accidentally 2 years ago which, while financially would have been even worse, felt like a blessing because the decision of when to do it was taken out of our hands. Sadly I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks Sad Since then I have been thinking 'when?'

I've written on here that maybe Jan is when we TTC but I just don't know if that will happen, or even if it should.

I also have the usual fears of losing freedom etc etc and whether I'm ready for that. DP also being v young is a concern to me, less so for him. I over think things and he is much more laid back Smile

faithfulandtruthful · 27/09/2012 17:25

Hi everyone,

I was on the previous wttc but my date to ttc has passed and I'm still wttc. I am really quite upset about it, OH and I had every intention of ttc this summer but due to personal circumstances, namely finances we have decided to wait.

I am heartbroken because we now don't even have a date to try and I cannot get my head around how we can save up money (to buy a house) and afford to have a baby at the same time. Its a Hormone vs head decision.

Everyone keeps saying 'your still young' (I'm 29) but fertilitywise it the wrong side of the hill and due to other complications I shan't be trying over 35 and in my dream world I would like two children. I have calculated with both of us saving its going to take 5 years to get into a position to save up for a house. So am feeling very Sad

So may be those of you whom are waiting a few months may now feel as if their ttc date is very close compared to mine maybe! Best of Luck to you all.

Some people on here were asking about vits to take preconception, for those who have been on the Pill I recommend Vit B complex (your vit B6 can be depleted by being on the pill which in turn effects you hormone levels) herbally angus cactus helps to restore hormone balance and milk thistle detox's your liver (where hormones can get stored up from taking the pill).* I am not a Dr they are just what I am taking currently.

I also recommend reading 'Taking control of your fertility' its fascinating stuff and has certainly increased my knowledge on the subject. Plus it passes the time until ttc!!

Hope all you lovely ladies are having a better day than I.

F&T x

KittenCamile · 27/09/2012 11:32

Thundercatz I know exactly what you mean, I am desparte for a baby and wishing the days away but DP although hugely excited keeps saying what you have said, we should enjoy our last few months of being quite carefree.

I see it slightly differently as we have lovely DSD who is nearly 4yrs here 50% of the time so even though this would be my first we really aren't carefree!

Its hard to get your head to enjoy the last bit of freedom when all you want with all your heart is a baby! My head has made the choice to have a family, it just wants time to catch up.

How are you doing with this?

FrickinAnnoyed · 27/09/2012 00:18

*want

We both do Smile

FrickinAnnoyed · 27/09/2012 00:18

Thinking about TTC Dec/Jan.

Wants kids but actually saying 'let's go for it' is so daunting.
