Preparing to TTC

Gerbera08 · 21/08/2012 08:24

Hi everyone, My husband and I have decided to start TTC at Christmas so I'm now getting ready to prepare myself for that! I've recently lost about a stone and want to lose a little more to be right in the middle of my healthy BMI. I've also started reducing my anti anxiety meds so that I will be completely off them by December. Is anyone else in the same boat? Are you planning to start TTC soon? Let's start chatting babies and healthy eating so we can be happy, healthy and ready together!! Gerbera08 xxx

3lbs is fantastic! Well done Gerbera.

I'm doing rubbish on the eating front at the moment. Once the summer hols are over I'm going to try to aim for 1lb a week. I'm really hoping that having a target that isn't too daunting will keep me more motivated.

Boring bank holiday ahead but looking forward to spending a chunk of time with DP. He was v v late back from the office all last week and we barely saw each other, and poor DD saw him even less.

Gerbera08 · 25/08/2012 13:48

Bridget I can tell I'm ovulating in the same way as you too Blush

So sorry everyone who's had miscarriages... I can't even imagine how horrible it must have been!

I did well at WW this week and lost 3lbs!! Very pleased with that!! Grin

How's everyone else? Any fun plans for the bank holiday? I'll be mostly relaxing at home.
Xx

Yes, Bridget- I was first looking at the April baby boards, but only looking. Then the MC sections, but I thought I was only looking- that it wasn't really happening to me. Now joining in on this thread, and the over 40's one too- maybe it is too soon, but I feel like I have to act fast.

JollyHockeyStick · 24/08/2012 22:13

Hi all :)

My GP said take folic acid for 2 months before. I started taking it a couple of weeks ago. We are planning to start TTC in October. DS is currently 16mo.

I'm getting my implant taken out in September (I was getting irregular, frequent bleeding so I'm on the pill as well as the implant currently). Still BFing DS so not expecting things to happen as quickly as they did last time. TTCing DS I took my last pill on May 24th and conceived on July 24th.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 24/08/2012 17:32

Eirehead - I just want to say I'm thinking of you. It's such a shitty thing to go through.

I spent hours on the sofa trawling the miscarriage section and found it really helpful. It was a bit of milestone when I found myself gradually spending more time on the conception topic. Hopefully we will all be on the pregnancy topic before too long!

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 24/08/2012 17:17

Hmmm, TMI warning but I think I have a pretty good idea when I'm at most fertile due to EWCM and very tingly boobs so I think we'll just have plenty of SWI around that time.

I have to confess I am rather tempted to buy some OPKs though - just to double check I'm ovulating when I think I am. However I am also rather gutted about the amount of money I've wasted peeing on sticks over the last few months. First response's profits should be up this year!

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 24/08/2012 16:14

So are you going to do Fertility charting or use the Fertility Monitor? Or do it the relaxed way?
I am almost 32 and have a dodgy cycle and PCOS. I will be making a beeline for the fertility monitor method straightaway!

OrangeLily · 24/08/2012 11:50

Bridget..... We're not trying but I have found there is a def 'rebound' affect since having my implant taken out.

Poor DH is exhausted Wink

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 24/08/2012 09:57

Takingthestairs - Hear! Hear! Are you planning to ttc as soon as you come off the pill? Yonks ago, when we decided to go for baby no 1, I think I definitely benefitted from a hormonal 'rebound' effect when I came off the pill - conceived first proper post-pill cycle.

takingthestairs · 24/08/2012 09:38

Hi, I decree we all shall have BFP when the timing works for each of us and that's that
bridget, so sorry for your loss xxx

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 24/08/2012 08:33

Hello everyone, can I squeeze on this thread too?

I am 35 (nearly 36 - yikes!) and preparing to resume ttc#2 in December. DP and I have a 6 year old DD and - to my complete surprise - starting ttc again at Christmas. DP had always been absolutely certain he only wanted one child and we had both gone through alot of heartache trying to reconcile our feelings (years of on-off arguments, tears, etc).

I fell pregnant in March and everything seemed perfect, but unfortunately I miscarried at 7 weeks. We have been ttc since then but now I feel like I need to take a break.

DP is keen for us to just carry on (neither of us are getting any younger) but I just want a few months to lose a bit of weight and get my head together. Little one would have been due in early December and I feel that once that date passes I can move on and fully embrace ttc again.

It would be lovely to have some people to chat to over the next few months - I definitely need some support with my healthy eating plan! The school summer holidays haven't helped at all (too many ice-creams at the park).

pinkmoonlight · 23/08/2012 21:01

Hello! Can I join? Smile
Another teacher here! I teach primary, I'm 26 and DH and I have been married for 2 years, together for 9! We're going to TTC around Nov/Dec (again, I would love an autumn term baby!) I've spent the summer clearing things out, trying to do more exercise and eat healthily. I've been taking folic acid too. Have also tried very hard not to spend most of the summer holidays thinking about/finding out about babies... but it's hard when you have lots of time! Trying to get myself prepared now before the mania of school starts again!

LozzyDJ · 23/08/2012 18:28

Hello!
Husband and I have started ttc. Came off the pill maybe 2/3months ago; periods been random, feeling nauseous, skin breaking out in loads of spots! All fun! Started taking Folic acid as soon as I stopped taking the pill.
What else should I be doing?
I've (very uncharacteristically) started sorting things at home too; getting rid of crap and cleaning more!

p.s. I'm 27, a youth worker, have C.FS/M.E, love knitting (can't wait to knit little things!), baking and pilates. Been married for 2 years, together for 5, we're both over 6ft, so who knows what giants we may breed!? I'm hoping for a basketball team!
Lx

MeanMrsMustard · 23/08/2012 11:43

Hi there everyone.
That's interesting about taking folic acid six months prior to pregnancy. I will stop being so complacent and start taking it daily then. Any other suggestions for pre pregnancy vits?

The other thing I started doing this week is setting myself a monthly spending limit, and really keeping track of what I buy each month. I have never really taken that much notice of my finances if I'm honest, and know that I waste lots of money every month on unnecessary purchases. I have no idea how much to aim to save, but I've set up a baby fund and am going to transfer as much as possible in each month. At the very least it will get me used to living on a budget on maternity pay!

takingthestairs · 22/08/2012 20:34

hi zombies Welcome!

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 22/08/2012 15:19

May I join? Not sure when exactly we will start but the plan is (hopefully) within the next few months.
I'm trying to eat far healthier, and just started folic acid.
Just got to start exercising now!
I'm also trying to change my habits a little eg waking up a little earlier, and trying to declutter the house a bit.

countrybumpkin2 · 22/08/2012 14:56

Thanks SpanishLady will start the folic acid tomorrow. That will give me just under three months before we start ttc. Don't worry I am not a teacher either!

SpanishLady · 22/08/2012 13:54

Hi - Im 38 and looking to TTC#2 in December - I have a son who is 2 in November and am hoping will have left a large enough gap to allow him to adjust well to a new arrival.

Bit anxious about my age and my periods have become irregular too since my forst baby - I used to be 27 without fail and am now usually 23-25 days (have been tracking my periods since it came back after BF) - is that normal does anyone know (that it flucctuating when it didnt use to I mean).

I started taking folic acid from 1 July Country bumpkin as was told anythign from 6 months before is helpful.

Not a teacher though - can I still join?!

takingthestairs · 22/08/2012 13:00

hi again ladies,

Thought some of you might like to join this thread about hoping for a BFP in September.

LionsnTigersnBears · 21/08/2012 23:07

Hi Eirehead,

Sorry to hear about your MC. Un-mumsnetty hugs to you, and fingers crossed for X-mas!

EireHead · 21/08/2012 19:58

ooops typo sorry - I don't know how to edit yet! STORIES

EireHead · 21/08/2012 19:54

Hello, everyone! I am presently recovering from a mc, but at 42, feel that time is NOT on my side so will start trying ASAP. Also a lecturer, I would love to get pregnant at Christmas- so cozy. I only joined this site yesterday, as since I have had to rest lately, I spent a lot of sad time reading other's women's stories of mc. Here's to reading lots of future happy storie on this thread!

LionsnTigersnBears · 21/08/2012 19:34

Wow, loads of people have joined. Second countrybumpkin on envying MrsMustard's dream. Gerbera, no wisdom as such I'm afraid! I think we took it too seriously and were too worried last time so as this is sure to be our last go round, I want to really enjoy it this time. I used the ovulation predictor kit and I did actually find it a help because on cycles where I didn't fall pregnant I found it reassuring to know I'd ovulated. I also took a pre-conception vitamin which had a lot of b12 (or was it b6? brain gone but definitely one of the Bs!) because I read that that makes a difference. Maybe it did, I got pregnant on the cycle I started taking it anyway, though perhaps that was just coincidence. I guess I'll use both of these again, but try not to get too angsty (though watch this space for me eating those words soon I guess :-D )

Intros- great idea! I'm 39, I'm a lecturer & I live in the north. I've got 2 idiot dogs, one lovely DD, and a bad horse riding habit.

OrangeLily · 21/08/2012 17:13

I am. Probably November time. Not making a huge effort to change my habits apart from taking folic acid. Been taking for a few weeks since getting my implant taken out and the doctor said three months before getting pregnant and three months after is when I should be taking folic acid.

Joining the 'just shagging' thread as can't be bothered with sticks, monitors, etc. We've got the luxury of time though. Smile

Gerbera08 · 21/08/2012 16:19

happylass sorry you're feeling poorly! Changes in hormones can make you feel horrible. Hope you feel better soon xx
