Sperm meets egg meets CBFM?

Idratherbe · 05/08/2012 21:16

Does anyone know how the sperm meet egg plan works alongside the clearblue fertility monitor? I'm hoping to shock my poor body into actually conceiving this month by combining hardcore science with good old fashioned well timed shagging.

So, if I'm supposed to bonk on the 3 days following a positive OPK, in CBFM world does that mean the 3 days following first peak reading? Or the 3 days following first high reading? I'd assume the former because the CBFM predicts LH surge but I'd be grateful for any advice and success stories using SMEP.

After having tried any which way to get pregnant for the last 6 months sans success, I WILL get pregnant this month. By hook or by crook!

Hi all,
We still try for our first (my first, his 5th) but no luck yet
We dtd generally every other night, and some times in between for good measure.
We have been using Conceive plus, without success, so now we will try Pre Seed.
DH had a snip reversal, 2 years ago, with limited success.
I guess we have already aligned ourselves to the fact we will need ICSI or IVF assistance.
Damn good fun, and exhausting trying though.
I don't know where he gets all his stamina from.
Completely leaves me shattered, and good for nothing.
Then has the cheek to want again in the morning.
Bugger off !

Fay.

*out

winkle2 · 29/08/2012 23:27

NO I mean dtd every day when I think I'm OV!'
I couldn't dtd every day - we did SMEP for a couple of months and dtd for 3 days in a row knackered us our!

toffeesam · 29/08/2012 16:53

DTD every day for a full cycle! you would be worn out Blush

winkle2 · 29/08/2012 14:46

Hmmm maybe I should try DTD every day! We tend to DTD EOD from CD10, then every day when I'm OV (I use the monitor) and then back to EOD till AF arrives.

toffeesam · 29/08/2012 09:46

Differences? Hmm thought i had missed it this month, (had bro's kids for the vital week) and after the chem last month wasn't hopeful. Just DTD every day fro a week from the day i realised that i OV-ed (and gave the kids back). Blush

was suprised when the sore boobs and feeling sick came along. Shock
Still nervous cos it is early.

thanks for the congrats. How is every one getting on? any more BFP for May babies?

iloveberries · 26/08/2012 21:47

Congrats toffee!

winkle2 · 26/08/2012 21:46

Congrats toffee!

Idratherbe · 26/08/2012 20:57

Woo Toffee!!! That's great news, now relaaaaaxxxxxx.....

I'm deeply confuddled now - I usually OV around CD16 and think it was CD14 this month. I am not checking anything but cervix and CM. Anyway, I had loads of fertile mucus including EWCM in abundance this weekend, and I'm now on CD22. Can't decide if I've ov'd freakishly late so we've been doing it a lot. Had been doing it EOD until Thurs.

So Toffee, do spill the beans on how things were different this month, emphasis on the 'diff' Wink

Tested early! i know not ususally a good idea, but there is a faint, but clear enough, BFP!
Dont want to get too excited after last month it didn't take, but fingers crossed. Grin It will work Idra. Just enjoy the ride Wink.

To be honest, i know have an essay to write and i'm a little distracted to say the least. made the mistake of watching that midwife prog, bit scared now!

Idratherbe · 14/08/2012 10:25

Well in the end i decided on a new tactic for this month - no CBFM and no SMEP, just tonnes of vitamins and letting DH take charge of when we do it. He's been doing his own research on what's best for winning baybees so I figure we've tried every other way so far, now it's his turn. My only stipulation is that I have to, ahem, enjoy it as much as he does (and preferably immediately after he has). Tough gig Smile. We're both rattling with all the supplements we're taking in the vain hope of making the optimum environment for a happy little bean. Good luck everyone.

Yes i think i'm using it.

How is everyone getting on? Any positives? Here's hoping for some soon.

Dtd-ing in ernest this week. Every day for the next few days then back to every other. Baby sitting duties over, made me evaluate if i am doing the right thing. Decided with dh that we were. But we are exhausted and havent dtd since monday. So that is the reason for the renewed vigor.

Idratherbe · 07/08/2012 21:13

PS - has anyone else had the weird thought that somehow you're inadvertently using some forgotten about form of contraception?!

Idratherbe · 07/08/2012 21:12

Ooh yes, please can we have a TCOYF tip of the day every day?!

You know it strikes me (rather late in the day) that with an average 20% chance of conceiving in any cycle and that's despite any other difficulties, the odds are truly stacked against us. It's just pure chance and so I suppose one option is just to shag like crazy until the fat lady sings. All this other stuff is just there to give the illusion of control dammit.

However I am truly fascinated Grin and so I'm still trying to decide whether or not to tell the CBFM what day I'm on. I suppose that stems from paranoia that I'm not ovulating following MC, but I honestly think I am. I may go back to temping too, just to make the 2WW more interesting if nothing else!

It's fucking massive!! Literally like a biology text book!! Hoping it'll have the magic ingredient of how to conceive with one tube but doubtful so I'll probably just carry on bonking every other day till I get a sticky bfp in the right place!

winkle2 · 07/08/2012 19:12

Feel free to share any tips from the book Grin

iloveberries · 07/08/2012 17:12

I'vejust bought the tcoyf book which everyone on here raves about so hoping that will help me too....

Good luck winkle x

winkle2 · 07/08/2012 17:02

bonzo - thanks for sharing your story. so annoying that you have spent so much on it and it didnt work!

I'm going for your method of dtd every 2-3 days this cycle and we dtd on both peaks which was last sat & sun but we're going to carry on.

Last month I got a peak on monitor on CD13 which is very early for me as I usually get a smiley on the sticks around CD16-18. Then AF didnt arrived till CD43!! So annoyed cause we'd obvs stopped dtd by then!

winkle2 · 07/08/2012 16:53

i mean last night!

winkle2 · 07/08/2012 16:53

i love berries: we didnt dtd last month. we're back on low but will carry on dtd just in case. currently on cd17 and have so far dtd cd9, 12, 14, 15 and tonight will be 17

iloveberries · 07/08/2012 06:50

Thanks bonzo

bonzo77 · 06/08/2012 22:39

I got a thermometer off amazon from a company called baby mad. About £3ish. Search for "BBT thermometer". You need digital and to 2 decimal places as the post ovulation rise can be as little as 0.2 degree Celsius. There's a website called fertility friend which tells you everything you need to know and has software to decide your data. really recommend it.

iloveberries · 06/08/2012 22:20

Interesting post bonzo. I'm starting to wonder if I should temp instead. Can you recommend a good thermometer?

My dh can only manage eod so no smep for me but eod should be good eventually - just gotta catch that egg!

bonzo77 · 06/08/2012 22:13

After a year using it I got really hacked off with CBFM. And it just didn't work for me after mc. The months I got pg were months I didn't use it. One ended in mc. After the mc I started temperature charting, and stopped using the CBFM after a couple of cycles. after that our "formula" was dtd every 2-3 days from end of AF til I got a positive OPK. Then daily until my chart confirmed ovulation (so until 3 mornings after ovulation). Then only if we fancied it after that. In practice that meant usually only about 8 or 9 baby focused shags, so not that hard work. Was pg the 2nd cycle after ditching CBFM, 4 after mc. The thing is that CBFM is just a very expensive OPK. It does not guarantee or confirm that you actually ovulated, so you can give up too soon. For me temp charting was the key.

iloveberries · 06/08/2012 21:46

Haha! I think youve done plenty!

It also depends if you know when you ov. I reckon I ov on the day of my first peak anyway.

Get yourself an early night (but kiss an make up first!)
