AAAAAAAAGH AF due today and am freaking out here

Been ttc for last 6 months and AF due today.
Am driving myself properly NUTS stressing out about it right now. Dreading going to loo every time I need to in case I see evidence I don't want to see :( As if not going to the loo is going to prevent AF coming!!!!
Stupidly working from home today so am able to obsess about it more and more...
Worse thing is that have had even more crazy symptoms than usual this month so am stupidly convincing myself I've struck gold this time when in reality of course the chances are it's just bad PMA.
Any advice for how to get through the day until my period inevitably makes an unwelcome appearance??

SomethingSuitablyWitty - EVERYTHING crossed for you for next week...

Details, indeed... woke up at 5, couldn't get back to sleep. I'd decided to def do the test today so I think I was too nervous to sleep. Lay in bed for a bit (on back, boobs too sore to lie on front!) debating how long to leave it... I had so strongly convinced myself by now that it was +ive that I knew I'd be gutted beyond belief if it didn't show up. Also, I don't know, I think I kind of wanted NOT to know for a little bit longer. IYSWIM. (Factoring in my POAS phobia here too!)
Got up eventually at 5.20, located First Response, went into bathroom, did the dreaded deed. For about 10 seconds I thought it was a BFN but that must have just been the dye taking time to react. Then a strong positive came up... Think my first thought was, "oh, shit'. May even have said that out loud. (To clarify, I do REALLY want this baby, I'm just a panicky kind of person!) Went back into bedroom, DH still slumbering away, I turned on the light and waved the pg test at him. He said, "What, what?" and I gave him thumbs up... he went a bit white (he's a panicker too) but beamed, and then we got back into bed and cuddled til we had to get up at 6.15... he dozed off again, would you believe???

Get used to the sicky feelings emerald they'll be your constant companion for a while now... I never had MS as such, but was permanently feeling a bit queasy and burpy 'til 11 weeks or so, when it eased off.

You can keep things crossed for me next week - I might try weds, if no sign of AF...

So anyway, tell us the story - how did it go? Could you believe it? was OH there? Details, woman, details!

Dillydollydaydream · 17/07/2012 10:20

Yay. Congratulations!

emeraldgirl1 · 17/07/2012 10:19

coconutty - yes, the feeling sick after eating thing isn't going away... had it all day y'day and after brekkie this morning... it's an odd one!

Thanks so much SomethingSuitablyWitty!!! Lovely to have the support y'day!!
I really started to get very suspicious myself y'day (and not just in a mad way) when my boobs were just NOT deflating.
Given that I'm a 34A, I should really have been alerted to all this early last week when a v sweet and camp salesman in a clothes store told me I had 'very big boobs'...
Keeping everything crossed for everyone else who's doing the dreaded POAS this month...

:) :) :) :)

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 17/07/2012 10:15

That's bloody fantastic! I was really hopeful for you (but didn't want to build you up too much yesterday, just in case). Wink

Hope this is the start of a very happy, easy pregnancy with a delightful placid baby at the end.

Congratulations!!!!

emeraldgirl1 · 17/07/2012 10:13

uhh... it's a BFP... still can't quite believe it but it's a definite...
DH still in shock!
Thanks for checking-in, ladies - looks like those in-my-head symptoms weren't quite so in my head after all...

Mama1980 · 17/07/2012 09:06

Just checking hoping for good news.....

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 17/07/2012 08:54

Morning emerald just checkin' in to see have you correctly diagnosed yourself?! I brushed my teeth quite hard last night and my gum bled a tiny bit, so I'm definitely pregnant too Wink.

Good luck with the FMU and all that malarky!

iloveberries · 16/07/2012 17:00

It's like I'm looking in a mirror!! ;)

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 16:57

#overexamining!!

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 16:47

Thanks iloveberries

Question for anyone who's well up on sore/swollen boobs thing - I think I am right in thinking that they usually stop being sore/swollen a day or two before AF arrives, right? At least, I think (but am doubting) that this is what is usual for me. But hormonally I think that's correct, isn't it? Progesterone dips right before AF starts? So if they are still sore and swollen on day it's due, that might be more of an indicator of upduffness...?

iloveberries · 16/07/2012 16:44

Still emerald it is looking good for you!!!

And you're right - we have to be positive!!

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 16:31

Also redstrawberry thank you! Oh, I love a good statistic... :)

OP posts:
emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 16:30

iloveberries yep, it sucks!!! Sounds like you've been doing the same as me! But the thing is, what are we meant to do - NOT be hopeful and optimistic? If you do want a baby, you're bound to be hopeful that you've conceived one!

Still no AF here BUT have obsessively gone thru diary for past 12 months and seen that a 29 day cycle is average for me but not guaranteed. Sometimes I have a 30 or even 31 day cycle. So still don't feel I can 'officially' call it a late period until tomorrow...

OP posts:
iloveberries · 16/07/2012 16:23

Good luck!! It bloody sucks that af symptoms are the same as pregnancy symptoms!! For the past 12 months I've thought I was pregnant!

redstrawberry · 16/07/2012 13:24

your symptoms sound very promising!
have you been on this site - to keep yourself from going mad if you are the numbers and stats sort of gal!
www.countdowntopregnancy.com/early-pregnancy-symptoms/symptoms-by-day-past-ovulation.php

best to POAS to put yourself out of this misery. i'm in the same boat but a week to go till AF due. difficult times indeed.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 16/07/2012 12:24

Could be, but then again, could be just that you are in a state of stress and excitement and that's what's making you feel sick.

Sounds like a very sensible decision re: tomorrow, so try not to build your hopes up too much until then. And come back and let us know of course! Good luck.

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 12:21

wildrumpus thanks - of no sign of AF later this afternoon by the time DHL man has been and gone I will nip up to Boots. Still think I may hold out til tomorrow though and use FMU for maximum accuracy.
AF usually does arrive first thing in the am on the day it's due so is already 'late' in one sense today. Still, not unheard of for me to get it on day 30 so not counting any chickens.
BTW - does anyone know if feeling sick right after eating (anything) is (yet another) symptom of pg?

OP posts:
wilderumpus · 16/07/2012 12:12

I have loads of symptoms every month! is all bollocks, but yours do sound promising Confused.

tbh just poas and find out - when you start fretting it is time to give in I think and save your sanity of 'am I, aren't I'?! good luck!

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 11:43

SuitablyWitty ooooh, now, haven't heard the FMU as shortening for that... but have used FMU (see how I start the lingo?) every time have tested in the past... what a great way to start the day THAT is! Angry

Mama1980 yes, everyone does seem to be different which makes the guessing game even more -addictive-- pointless! I was terribly nauseous in TWW a couple of months ago and of course convinced myself that was 'it' but it was either just general hormone issue or my mad brain convincing me I felt sick!

OP posts:
SomethingSuitablyWitty · 16/07/2012 11:32

So you are not familiar with the delightful phrase "First Morning Urine"?

Clearly, you have actually been fairly restrained on the whole TTC obsessing. Wink

As you probably know, this is by far the best time to test in the early days - a test that is positive with FMU might be negative later in the day as the hormones level are too low in the more dilute pee.

I hope the tiredness is a symptom. It definitely could be. I wouldn't really expect it to kick in until 10 or 11 DPO though - anything before that could be just normal knackeredness.
