Hi ladies,

For those of us out of the July game there are not many places to hide so I thought I'd start a new August thread to give us all some positive vibes!

limesoakedmadeleine - my copper coil comes out on Tuesday, looks like we are following a similar path :-) only I am 3 weeks behind you!

Good luck with TTC :)

limesoakedmadeleine · 11/07/2012 18:43

Thanks Newbie, feel like I'm in knowledgeable company here, which is great! I ditched the copper coil a couple of weeks ago, so technically I'm ready to go.

Sheep another first timer here - you're asking the questions I need the answers to!

Yup, which is why I'm still struggling to work everything out ;)

Newbie2 · 11/07/2012 15:21

Is this the first cycle you've been TTC?

OP posts:
Sheep2345 · 11/07/2012 15:20

Yipppe, so you can add me on the list for 25th August :)

Newbie2 · 11/07/2012 15:18

BFP (big fat positive) is the day you're expecting the next AF to arrive but hopefully you'll be testing for a BFP instead!

OP posts:
Sheep2345 · 11/07/2012 15:16

Excuse the newbie trying to work all this out, brainache!!

I have a 28 day cycle and am next due on 28th July, therefore I recon I start TTC between 6th-16th August (ish!) So will my BFP fall into this group??
I worked it out as 25th August as that is the day I would next be due if I was not pg on 1st attempt :)

highlighting my naivety with TTC here ladies

Oh no those are the cb fertility monitor sticks to go with the monitor. I'm starting to use the monitor today (that's what I meant above). You need the clear blue ovulation sticks that I used last cycle. It only detects your surge 24hrs before you ovulate so you have to be on the ball. The monitor detects it 4 days prior so I've got a chance to start DTD before. What is the rhythm method? Here is the link you need: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00352LUAY/ref=mp_s_a_2?qid=1342015934&sr=8-2

Thanks for your reply Newbie :)

Sorry I'm being really dense here, but are you saying those are the right ones or not? They're called "Clearblue Fertility Monitor Test Sticks - 20 Pack"

Do people still use rhythm method these days? Are people aware of it? Is it seen as too much faffing I wonder?

Newbie2 · 11/07/2012 14:58

Oh and you start using them from day 6 (depending on your cycle) It would be worth you looking at the clear blue website for more info

OP posts:
Newbie2 · 11/07/2012 14:57

Aran the only OV sticks I would recommend is the clear blue ones. Yes they're pricey but I'd rather have a accurate smiley face to tell me if I have ovulated or not rather then spend pondering hours guessing if the two lines (on the cheapie ones) match (been there done that etc.) I'm now using the clear blue fertility as of today. Another expensive gadget but this time I'll know when to start DTD so that I catch a few days before rather then just on the day. I've heard lots of people debate that they want to TTC naturally and not use OV sticks..and then a week later they buy them too!

OP posts:
Aranrhod · 11/07/2012 13:25

Are these the right ones / a decent price?

Thinking about giving them a go anyway :)

Aranrhod · 11/07/2012 13:20

When do you test then? I got my AF yesterday, and I've not been keeping track (that's going to change now, the not-trying-too-hard approach hasn't worked for me this time!)

I have a fairly short cycle (about 25 days), I guess I'm due around August 5th.

Aranrhod · 11/07/2012 13:16

Lisa and WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid thanks for the reassurance :)

Just had a look at the sticks online, seem to be lots of different ones, not sure which ones to get! I'm also wondering if they're really worth the expense?

I do still have a fertility thermometer somewhere. That's certainly a cheaper way to do work out when you ovulate. You have to take your temperature every morning before getting up - but that's not bad thing I reckon ("no I can't possibly get up with DS right now it'll affect my base temperature! You get the breakfast on, I'll be up in a few minutes Wink")

You then chart it, and you can see from your temperature when you ovulate. IIRC you ovulate pretty much 14 days before the first day of your AF. So if you're regular you can have a pretty well-informed guess anyway.

Also your discharge changes when you ovulate. My doctor explained this in detail and how to see the changes yourself. If you want to know what he said let me know - it's possibly TMI I thought unless you're actually interested!

I've never used the sticks. Every one seems really keen on them though. I wonder what is it that makes them better than doing the old fashioned rhythm method?

Welcome Lime looks like you will be our first tester in August! Have you come off the pill recently or been using other methods?

limesoakedmadeleine · 11/07/2012 11:27

Hi, please can I join? Been lurking for a while, but this is my first post, first cycle, TTC first child. Testing 1st August or therabouts. Slightly freaked out but excited. Good luck to everyone!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 11/07/2012 09:16

Hi sunshine I know what you mean about getting jealous of all the BFPs. I started July 99% happy for everyone and 1% Envy now it's about 50/50. I would start the epo in your shoes, hope it works for you. I am going to start it this cycle, I hardly had any ewcm this month.

Thanks for starting the thread newbie no BFPs allowed here till August (ok late July).

Newbie2 · 10/07/2012 21:50

Aww bless Sunshine :) I've had those moments too. Why do you think I started this thread...all for a bit of a break. I still pop in and out of July threads though :) oh and I don't think it's too late to take EPO. You take it upto ovulation point.

OP posts:
SunshineOutdoors · 10/07/2012 21:40

Hi! Was waiting for this one to start. Testing 19th August, bloody stupid 42 day cycle.

Temping this cycle..... from around cd 10 onwards I'm going to dtd eod until temp change... then try to keep going after that.

I'm hoping cycle will be shorter this time. Cd 4 today... Is it too late to try epo?

Good luck to everyone for August. I don't want to sound horrible and am obviously really pleased for all the bfps but was getting a bit depressed with wow, how lucky is the July thread, everyone's getting bfps!! Not fucking me! Angry

Sorry that was really bitter! I've got it out of my system Grin it's my own fault for getting my hopes up. Trying not to expect anything from this month.

LisaC2611 · 10/07/2012 21:37

Aran am sure you haven't left it too late, I'm 36 and just trying for our first I'm sure you'll be fine. I would recommend using ov sticks though

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 10/07/2012 19:35

newbie not seen that film yet. I dread to think what the character is like If she is like me.

arun the opks are pretty good. Espeac if you have another child which makes dtd a lot a bit tricky. You do risk turning into a poas (pee on a stick) addict like me. 37 isn't too old, best of luck.
