We have been trying since May 2004 with no joy 2 early mcs.and a bit of a break for me,we have charted, temped, and used persona for 2 mths after that i had to give myself a break after a lot of tears and feelings of emptiness i at last feel ready to try again,so any tips old wives or otherwise will be very gratefully accepted.I have just booked my first appointment to try reflexology. We have both had all the fertility tests and both of us are fine so onwards and upwards for us again.Until our beanie baby makes a long awaited appearance and i at last see the 2 blue lines that dont disappear after a week or so.

Relax and stop all the ovulating stuff( i done this too) and after 18m the only thing i still done was take my folic acid, dp and i booked a holiday for us and our ds because i didn't think i would get pregnant for another while yet and we also started going out the odd weekend and i would have a few glasses of wine(i had stopped drinking any alcohol thinking this would help), just generally having fun and not thinking about my temp in the morning and then going peeing on those damn sticks helped me relax, in the end i think my mind was all taken up by trying to conceive a baby, thats why i stopped going into Boots and buying all the ovulation stuff. A few months later Bingo i was pregnant and we had to cancel our holiday, but hey what the hell we could go on numerous holidays. That was nearly 3yrs ago now and this year our hoilday is going to be with my dp our ds and our wonderful dd who we waited nearly 2yrs for. Good luck and relax and most of all enjoy the time with your dp

I've got a book called Fertility by Dr Elizabeth chubb and Jane Knight, which helped us make dd2 happen. It's mainly about temp and cm, but is quite thorough and I'm very willing to pass it on to you Debbsy or anyone else who wants it.

newkid · 09/03/2006 16:43

yeah, book a really nice once-in-a-lifetime holiday and then you'll fall pregnant within weeks and not be able to go on it. Was trying for more than two years to get pregnant, then we booked holiday and we couldn't go because I'd had bleeding and also wasn't too comfortable about going to a malaria zone while preg. Took dd on rebooked (and slightly changed) luxury holiday at 5 months old.

Actually we are trying for number two and i really am not the best one to give advice as I'm stressing about it already (only a few months in). I thought I had it sussed but we are equally hopeless at timing it this time round as well! Good luck and I think fertility monitoring is worth a try (we also did that right before dd).

lorre · 09/03/2006 16:35

After trying for over 3 years, I decided it wasn't going to happen so concentrated on other things - nights out, booked a nice holiday etc - two months later I was pregnant. I think there is definitely something to be said for relaxing so the reflexology may help. Good luck !

relax · 09/03/2006 15:40

hi
i think i have read somewhere that green tea is supposed to be of benefit (? antioxidant) and brazil nuts are good for selenium which i think help sperm formation .

sandyballs · 09/03/2006 13:58

Easier said than done I know, but try not to get too stressed and anxious about it all. Me and DH tried to conceive for 4 years, had one miscarriage, then decided to give up and concentrate on other things. A few months later I was pregnant with twins. Good luck.

blueshoes · 09/03/2006 13:46

robin3, I have heard of grapefruit juice as well. I think it is supposed to increase cervical mucous

going4potty · 09/03/2006 13:35

Hi just saw this and thought id add my two pence worth you never know do you? Id advise going to a herbalist first but black cohosh is supposed to be good if ttc. Also where i use to work we use to do something called a theraputic hysterosalpingogram. Basically it checks the patency of your fallopian tubes with a dye under x-ray control, but we found that many women conceived straight after as it use to dilate tubes and clean them out a bit. So ask your gp if they will refer you.

robin3 · 09/03/2006 13:09

Grapefruit juice - 1 glass a day.

There is some scientific reason why it helps but can't remember what it is. My friend says it worked for her and after trying for a while I drank it and fell pregnant that month. Did it do the trick? Goodness knows but certainly won't do any harm. Good luck.

blueshoes · 09/03/2006 13:05

Debbsy, if you use lubricant, there are people who say saliva (TMI?) or KY is not spermfriendly. Suggested egg white (only gave me a rash) or pre-seed, which I understand you can can buy off the internet. In the end, KY worked for me. But if you are willing to try something different ...

SRM · 09/03/2006 11:45

We tried for 18 months and then went to Foresight which promote pre-conceptual care. They do a hair test on you and find out which nutrients and minerals you are missing and then put you on lots of pills! I did that, plus reflexology, plus cut down on working hours, plus had a lap & dye and was pregnant within 3 months. For no 2 I just bought the pills from Foresight again, had more reflexology and it took 2 months. Don't give up!

Debbsy · 08/03/2006 21:04

thanks everyone for good advice will get started as soon as i can grab some energy levels from somewhere as working very hard at the moment.

Actually enough sperm will get to the cervix from where they won't escape so the legs up under a pillow is not necessary to do. Its just another ttc myth that's been banded about.

rummum · 05/03/2006 22:19

once you've done the business place a pillow under your bum so the sperm doesn't drip out... then stay like that till morning...Wink

Good luck

of course when you fall pregnant we'll all be fighting over who's advice worked....

beanymum · 05/03/2006 21:52

We were trying for 15 mths before I fell pg with dd. My dh used to have really hot baths, but the dr. suggested he gave them up which he did. After a while I fell pg. (It takes a while for the sperm to develop in testes so hot bath effect would take a few mths to disapear).

This time I got pg very easily, but unfortuately had a m/c. I'm sure the baths were very detrimetal to the sperm and suggest your dh has showers instead!

Wishing you all the best whatever you decide to do.

MeerkatsUnite · 04/03/2006 18:43

Hi Debbsy,

Okay so to date you've had sperm tests, blood tests and a HSG. If the blood tests and sperm analysis was done over six months ago then these should be discounted. It should be said also that these tests should ideally be done under the subfertility unit's supervision. If the GP looked at your blood test results then these could have been misinterpreted.

You need to be seen again by the subfertility unit rather than your GP doing another lot of tests - you have not been fully investigated properly to my mind. Something has been missed here - I am sure of that. They have not done a lap operation for instance (the one that Jodee has commented on).

Agnus castus can make any underlying hormonal imbalances worse - I would strongly suggest that you do not self medicate with this at all. If you really want to try this I would suggest you seek out advice from a medical herbalist beforehand. Where you are now in terms of ttc, you are well beyond the stage of trying this or doing temp charting anyway.

More medical tests on both of you should be carried out as soon as possible, my guess is that if these are thorough enough then they may determine exactly what the problem is. It could equally be a male factor problem as well as a fertility problem with your good self. Equally you could both be contributing to the subfertility.

Do not give up, would seek medical advice again and be re-referred back to another subfertility unit.

HTH

Jodee · 04/03/2006 18:13

Debbsy, I was in a similar situation to you, we tried for 2 years before I had ds in 2000. I'm not sure if the procedure you have had (or the one Meerkats suggests)is exactly the same as having a laparoscopy (and dye) procedure, if not then it may be worth pressing to have it done. Could be a coincidence, but as a last resort I had a lap & dye, nothing abnormal was found but the consultant said it may have helped as it gave the tubes a "chimney sweep". 2 months later I was preg.

Also, you should get the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler, it's excellent.

Give up caffeine as well (although I think your partner shouldn't, as I've read caffeine helps the sperm in some way).

wishing you loads of luck, I've been trying for no. 2 for 3 years and am about to start Clomid.

thirtysomething · 04/03/2006 17:52

I remember hearing something about a herb called agnus castus that's supposed to help hormone levels. Can't remember how so make sure you research it first before taking any (they sell it in Holland and Barret). Also try taking a month "off" trying and go on holiday or at least away for a weekend - it worked for us after 18 months of trying - I left the thermometer and test kits at home, didn't chart or anything, had a fab holiday and got a BFP ten days later! I think the stress of all the anticipating and calculating can genuinely interefere in the end. Good luck and keeping fingers xd for you.

edodgy · 04/03/2006 17:37

Ok there's no science involveed in this but bear with me. We tried for our first dd for 9 months using the missionary position which all the books say is one of the best when ttc, then the one time we did it doggy style I fell pregnant. When she was 9 months old we did it doggy style without using contraception, one of those heat of the moment things and i fell pregnant again (unfortunately I mc this baby at 8 weeks). When we decided to come off contraception last March we only actually had sex once that month (we were busy lol) we did it doggy style and I fell pregnant straight away so I don't know if you've tried this position or not when ttc or if you've avoided it because it's generally thought this positon isn't good for conception but I thought i'd let you know it worked for me!

Debbsy · 04/03/2006 17:31

thanks ck ill try anything

OK, I'm not usually into things like this, but after trying for 18 months myself, I tried this "spell" and it worked!

This spell requires a green candle (an additional blue candle for healing is recommended is there is a medical condition involved), a small square of green cloth and a tie, a small amount of rich soil, and a nut or seed. You'll also need a candleholder and some
matches.

This spell should be performed in the bedroom if possible. Using your projective hand (the one you write with) hold the green candle and charge it with fertile energy. Imagine a healthy pregnancy, a beautiful baby. See it as if it already happened.

(If you use the blue candle, repeat the procedure, this time seeing your problems healed). Place the candle(s) on a table and light them, feeling the fire energize the spell. Then take the soil, charging it with the fertility of the earth, of growth. Sprinkle it around the candle(s). Then let the candle(s) burn down on their own (Never leave a candle burning unattended). When the candles burn down, take the soil and place it in the green cloth. Then take the seed or nut and "plant" it in the soil. Tie up the cloth tightly and carry it with you. Also, place it in your bed when you do YOUR planting! If you get a pretty cloth (I used a small green scarf) and tie it with a pretty green ribbon you can hang it in your bedroom and it just looks like one of those pot pourri things.

crazydazy · 03/03/2006 21:19

Vodka and red bull worked the first time.

The mirena coil misplacing itself the second time.

Debbsy · 03/03/2006 21:18
