Any older mums ttc (late 30s)?

I suppose you have to ask for baby aspirin at Boots? I didn't know babies were allowed aspirin. I am still bfing my DS and I never take aspirin, because I was advised not to when he was born. I've never looked into it since them? [blank expression]

Hi everyone, I saw K1K2 on here and just wanted to check in for a bit. Also noticed the message about baby aspirin and wanted to say that I took it for a month before conceiving and about a month after. I have read of some women taking it longer as well. It increases blood flow to the uterus and therefore helps with conception and to prevent miscarriage.

Hi , NotanOtter, what is baby asprin, exactly ? I saw it somewhere else on a thread, but I thought it wasn't advised here in the UK. Are you from overseas? Is it just a low dose of ordinary asprin? It is obviously to thin the blood , but how does that relate to preventing mc?

Hi, like Angsthase, can't wait to get back to normal to ttc. Every month counts now with the biological clock ticking away...I miscarried on Saturday, so I am all over the place emotionally. I am 42, no problems with conceiving , I think, it's just carrying to full term with us older mums, if you look at the miscarriage thread stats, most of the women there are late thirties, early forties. It's just a lottery now with the quality of the remaining eggs we release. Sorry to sound so negative So I am sending extra strength baby dust to all of us- keep the faith!

Angsthase, sorry to hear about the mc. I hope you are all better soon and are eating plenty of chocolate to help the healing process.

sorry to hear that nicola - i was advised to take baby asprin - i cannot remember dose for first 20 weeks to prevent miscarriage and would do if i fell pregnant again.
I think that is my greater worry the higher m/c rates amoungst us oldies.
I did miscarry before this baby

I conceived for the 1st time practically immediately after coming off the Pill at the age of 41, but unfortunately miscarried at 10 weeks (twins). I then took 9 months to conceive again, but sadly miscarried again. I'm now 42 and ttc very hard.

I'm joining too! 38 with one DD of 2.5. Never heard of the cough syrup idea so will try that. Do you take it a few days before ov as well? Not sure exactly when I ov though - think its about cd 14, so should I take it 12-16 or something?

I have just had my fifth - in february and would like one more ( hope that does not make me sound like a rough old woman in a shoe- really i am not!)
Anyway i want to leave a reasonable gap between these two but not leave it too late - i was thinking conceive age 40 deliver 41?
have not read whole thread but does that sound too old?

Sorry Tutti Frutti - ERPC is what they do in hospital if you don't want to wait to mc naturally (which could have taken 4 - 6 weeks in my case), used to be known as a D&C.

Well I'm now waiting to get a cycle again! Got to wait until my op "symptoms" (don't want to give you TMI!) have gone before I can even have sex, let alone start ttc. Just want to move on before my body's ready to I guess - always like me to be impatient

Bad luck Angsthase - what is ERPC? I'm 38 too, and hoping everything is still in working order! What I don't like about ttc is the endless waiting - why does a cycle have to be as long as 28 days???

ERPC after missed mc last week, so back to square one for me. . Well at least it proves I can conceive even at the ripe old age of 38!

Hi, I have posted on and off over the last couple of months. I am 39 and have been ttc for 8 months. Just wanted to say that I got a bfp yesterday! I really want to wish all of you the best of luck.

I was religiously taking EPO with grapefruit juice and Boots Expectorant Cough Mixture in lead up to ov. I also identified that I had a short luteal phase, 7 days, thanks to MN. This increased to 14 days over the last 2 months. It may be down to the HUGE amounts of vitamin B6 I was taking (600mg per day), although it may just have changed all by itself. I had to buy this off the internet as you can only get 10mg tablets in the shops now.

I also had day 21 prog test done last Friday, came back as 23, so I was told I could not have ov'd (they like a level of at least 30). Just goes to show that science isn't always right.

Kind of queasy most of the time, but ginger tea helps a lot. I'm hoping this doesn't last too terribly long, but I know every pregnancy is different (not much ms with ds) so have resigned myself to it for now.

Hi all, I am 41, 42 in Dec and about to try for No 4. I know Im mad and Im so so lucky to have 3 healthy children, but we just so want another. SO deep breath and off we go again. I have has 3 m/c in the past (1 between ds1 and ds2; and two between ds2 and ds3)I know how hard it can be....

Hey, when you get to be my age (41) it all gets complicated Like I always say, If you're 16 and unmarried you can get pregnant just looking at a guy the wrong way. When you're of "advanced maternal age" everything's got to be just right plus a little luck!

Jabberwocky, it all sounds quite complicated! When I was ttc with baby no1 all I did was take folic acid for 3 months!! The cough medicine one sounds the strangest, but I checked the link earlier and it actually makes sense in a weird kind of way.

I will def be trying these things out - I think I'll need all the help I can get!!

6. 6 days before ovulation - cough syrup (the expectorant only kind)

and it looks like I did leave out the grapefruit juice!

Hi - just picked up this thread while looking through, hope you don't mind a gatecrasher?? :) I'm 40 (last December), have ds aged 5 (just) and been thinking for the longest time about whether or not to go for baby no 2. Think I've decided (it's been driving me mad, I'm never normally this indecisive!) that yes I would like baby no2. However, dh is not too keen - he's very resistant to change, and if it wasn't for me we wouldn't be married or have ds no1!! Not sure how he'll feel (he kind of knows it's been on my mind) and truth told, I'm a bit scared of broaching it with him. He's poorly at the moment (I've got another thread going on that!) so I'll definitely leave it until another time. Good luck to all of you who are ttc or have just conceived - it really is wonderful!! BTW, my mum was 42 when she had me - my older brother and sister are 18 years and 13 years older than me!! I think I was a bit of a surprise - although mum always said I was a gift from god -aah!!
