Any older mums ttc (late 30s)?

I was just wondering how many of the ttc people were in their late 30s or 40s.

I am 38 and started ttc this year. It would be nice if we could support each other.

I had DS at 38 - conceived 3rd month of trying. then had 2 mc after that. was told by consultant that my hormone levels were too high & that I'd be lucky to a) concieve again & b) to have a sucessful pregnanacy.
I sold all ds's stuff. started chinese medicine & acupunture ( very dodgy outfit - think they saw me coming) gave up wheat & diary 9 well quite a lot of it) tried to concentrate on my gorgeous son.
Had DD at the age of 41. No-one was more shocked than I when I got Pg as I had given up hope.
which just goes to show - never say never & never give up!!!!

Hi Sideways, I'm 35 (will be 36 when baby arrives). I wish i'd known about mumsnet throughout all the years I've been trying. The thread on conception has had me laughing, crying and fascinated. Fab stuff

maddymax · 21/08/2006 14:19

This is the first time I have posted a message and just wanted to say how relieved I am to have found other 'older' mums like me. I have 2 ds of 3 and 5 and after 2 missed miscarriages have been ttc for 8 mths. I am 39 (40 in Oct)and was starting to feel time was running out. Thank you for giving me hope.

sideways · 21/08/2006 11:35

Congratulations Debbie, that's fantastic news. Best of luck wiht your pregnancy.

How old are you?

OP posts:
Debbiedowner · 21/08/2006 11:17

I'm 10 weeks with my second baby having tried for 10 years (all the tests and clomid but nothing worked). We had given up hope and took comfort from having a fabulous 14 year old daughter and then right out of the blue! - it happened. Only thing I have been doing differently is more exercise (we got a dog)and I gave up tea and coffee. My message is don't give up hope, all those years of disappointment and heartache have faded overnight! My heart goes out to all of you who are trying - keep going!

nannymacfee · 17/08/2006 13:52

Thanks Angsthase and dizzy36 - understood!!

Angsthase · 17/08/2006 13:35

nannymcfee - there's a whole list at the top called acronym list next to useful stuff (took me days to find it when I joined, and I spent most of my time completely confused!)

dizzy36 · 17/08/2006 13:19

AF - Auntie Flo i.e time of the month

nannymacfee · 17/08/2006 12:50

sorry silly question, but what does AF mean?!
New to site, thanks.

Angsthase · 17/08/2006 12:21

Hi Sideways. All ok here. Just bored with the whole thing. I like getting my own way and this is one thing that is more or less out of my hands and as such v.annoying!

Expecting AF to appear tomorrow or Sat. Chances are that it will as I think I ov'd after DH had left.

How about you?

sideways · 17/08/2006 12:11

Bugmum - that's great news, congratulations!!!

Angthase - how are you doing?

nannymacfee - welcome . I hope get a positive result soon. There are plenty of tips on this thread if you can manage to read though it!

Just joined the site and have just started ttc our 3rd child. Was not keen for a 3rd (financial and stress pressures etc), but have decided to go for broke and hopefully have a larger family. My first 2 (girls) were conceived straight away, so not sure how to start trying - best days, diet etc. Am only going to try for 5 months and then draw a line under it if nothing happens. I know that sounds very black and white but that's how I am!

Any advice welcome - am 38!

Thanks, Nanny Macfee

I posted recently about ttc my second baby and having low progesterone levels. I had a meeting with my doctor yesterday about her referring me for a Clomid prescription, and on the way home I felt 'funny'. Have been having cramps since CD23, which is not usual for me. Anyway, I bought a test on the way home, and got a BFP!

Who knows whether it will stick, but it has made me very happy (though I felt an idiot having to ring the doctor and tell her!).

So I conceived my DS at 38 (had him at 39) and this one at 40 (if all goes well, I'll be 41 when I have him/her).

Keep your fingers crossed for me, and keep the faith. Baby dust to all!

Nicola63 · 03/08/2006 14:33

Oh I am keeping trying! I am also going on holiday soon, just around ov time too. But I am also going to the fertility clinic just after I get back. My latest FSH continues to be low (8 at mid cycle) so I am not giving up.

sideways · 03/08/2006 14:14

Hello dizzy - welcome , sorry to hear about your mc,

evenhope - wow, fantastic, that's great news

Nicola and K1K2 - keep trying,we need more bfp on this thread!!

Things still chugging along here for me, no news yet but I am still hoping. I go on holiday next month and am hoping that being more relaxed will help, as stress levels and working too many hours do not really create a relaxing environment conducive to conception.

hi, hope you don't mind me jumping in.

Its been very reassuring listening to some of the stories from late 30s ladies like myself (I'm 38).

I have been ttc for 4 years in total (lost a little girl at 20 weeks pg jan 2004). been ttc since then and knew it would take a while as she took 15 months to conceive.

I've not heard anyone on here mention low ovarian reserve (i.e high fsh). Mine is slightly elevated suggesting I haven't got long to ttc my 2nd.

Since april 2005 have been receiving private treatment and its only now that I have started to realise that it might not happen for us naturally anymore. so I am going for ivf (hope to start next cycle).

I never acutally considered myself too old to ttc before. Not sure whats changed but I don't feel very good about it.

Nicola63 · 22/07/2006 13:33

Even hope that is so wonderful! I have also had 2 missed m/c's, am ttc at moment, and will be 43 next month (dreading it). I know what you mean about the anxiety and trying not to get too excited in case things go wrong again. But lets hope everything will be ok! I am very encouraged by your story.

evenhope · 22/07/2006 12:59

Hi, some of you know me from the due Oct 2006 and due March 2006 boards. I am 43 and in shock from a BFP last week. I'm trying not to get too excited about it after 2 missed m/c. The odd thing is that after the last one the hospital said it was highly unlikely we'd conceive again, given my age, so we weren't actively trying- just not doing anything to prevent IYSWIM. I believe we had ahem.. relations.. just once this month, and that wasn't mid-cycle. After years TTC in my 20s. Quite mad.

K1K2 · 22/07/2006 00:18

Hi Guys this is a sporadic thread, and I am not doing much either to make it any different-well it was very much wishful thinking ( probably what they called in the old days "phatom pregancies") on my part. AF came bang on time, so I was really deluding myself I had signs of pg. I feel llike a fool because I was telling everyone I might be pg. I am going to try to keep my mouth shut this time, if there is a this time. Ah well its the two week window of conceiving opportunity again, better get cracking!

Good luck to all xx

Angsthase · 20/07/2006 10:43

Bugmum + Chocolate Peanut - welcome to the madhouse

Bugmum - if you progesterone level is low surely they can give you something to help that? Just keep pushing to get referred. (Friend of mine burst into tears - worked for her!)

Don't give up girls - need to believe there's hope for us more mature ladies and you girls on here give me that hope.

Here's wishing us all BFP's soon. xxx

Bugmum · 20/07/2006 08:08

I am 40, with DS 17 months and have been ttc for five or sixth months now. Just heard my progesterone levels are low. The doctor says she'll try to refer me but I probably haven't been trying long enough, despite my age (I would have lied, had I known this).

Just wanted to say this to people who would understand how sad I feel, knowing I'll probably not have another child.

sideways · 16/07/2006 22:49

Well done stingray, that's great news, good luck for your pregnancy.

nicola, sorry you are feeling down, it must be really hard. I hope you get good news soon.

Welcome chocolatepeanut and good luck - have you tried all the tips in this thread?

No news here, getting very fed up, no way I am giving up yet though!
