Any older mums ttc (late 30s)?

I was just wondering how many of the ttc people were in their late 30s or 40s.

I am 38 and started ttc this year. It would be nice if we could support each other.

My DH works away alot so I went to the GP on my own to get the referral (and my GP referred my DH for tests in his absense ).

He can go with you for support and it can't do any harm, but really I'd say it's the consultants appt which is more important.

Mirry71 · 24/10/2006 12:45

Juicylucythe2nd did DH go with you to the GP? Mine is keen to come and sees it as a thing we should do together - I don't know whether they will think it odd....

Mirry71 · 24/10/2006 12:40

Thanks 1n2s - I've googled the doctors and found the doc who seems to do most antenatal stuff. Fingers crossed. I don't like the thought of taking lots of drugs and stuff but will just have to see what they say. Prob that we don't have enough sex!

Juicylucythe2nd · 24/10/2006 12:39

Mirry - just because you had a prescription doesn't mean you took the whole lot. When was your last sript? You can just say you decided not to take them and got them just in case you changed your mind about TTC - but TBH they're not likely to be that strict about grilling you!

When I went I said I'd been trying for a year. My GP wasn't very clued-up, but he was very nice and helpful and referred us straight away. (I was 37 / DH 43 at the time).

Our GP sent 2 forms off straight away to the fertility clinic. One for an appt and one to get DH's sperm test done - as this is always the first test they do and because of this we got those results at the first appt with the consultant.

Do tell him you've been temping and take records with you. The GP may not want to see them, but they may be useful for the consultant.

It is very common to TTC up to 2 years before becoming pg, so don't dispair, but I understand you wanting to get all the tests done. For me it was about ruling any issues out so I didn't loose time unneccessarily.

Good luck.

Hi Mirry71, I'm 34 soon to be 35. Got married in May this year and came off the pill a month before. I have been to see my GP last week mainly because I was a bit worried as get awful period pains/nausea for full week before AF arrives and have never had this before. Its apparently hormones coming off the pill but had a long chat with GP (who was lovely - never met her before). Told her I was cruising toward 35 and had been trying for 7mth - she said to come back at xmas and they'll take some bloods and sperm count of DH. If you're 35 and being trying for 6months they will move fast, if under 35 they'll tell you to come back after 12months of trying. I'd pop along and tell the story

Mirry71 · 24/10/2006 12:17

Hello everyone, just wondered if I could ask some advice.
Well I'm going to have to admit defeat and go to the GP, I'm 35 have been ttc since last December when I got married and came off the pill (apart from a brief blip in the summer) - done temperatures and stuff although not ov sticks. Really thought this month but....no. Anyway given my age (DH is 39) I thought I really can't carry on just hoping and need to do something about this. So am going to book appointment with GP.
The thing is I don't have a GP I know well and was wondering - what will they say to me? What sort of things will they suggest I do? And what should I say/not say to them? A friend of mine said I should say I had been trying for a year but they will know that's not true because of my pill prescription.
Oh dear. I really did hope this time...but must just be positive...any info gratefully received...

Wow Piz ! congratulations

I have no idea when my LMP is - how pathetic is that!! some time mid september !!!! which would make me due end of June IF everything is ok. Dont want to count my chickens.

How ols are you Juicy Lucy ? are we going to make up the core of oldies on the June thread ??

Juicylucythe2nd · 13/10/2006 08:47

PizPizPiz · 11/10/2006 14:10

At least you know what's going on now frothy. Take care of yourself.

Frothycoffeegirl · 11/10/2006 12:13

Thanks, didn't have a look at your kind messages until this morning but went to GP this morning, she was pretty sure it's a virus going round. It's just a cruel coincidence that I felt sick, had a bloated feeling, was sore 'down there' and missed a period!! My body playing nasty tricks on me. I'm certainly not pregnant, took so many tests, was due early / mid last week and still no positive. So back to the drawing board... hope you're all feeling well!

PizPizPiz · 11/10/2006 11:08

Go to your gp frothy, it sounds a bit worrying.

Juicylucythe2nd · 11/10/2006 09:34

Don't recognise the symtoms Frothy - I'd start a thread - either here or on health and see if anyone can help.

Hope you feel better soon x

Frothycoffeegirl · 10/10/2006 18:19

Well now I can hardly walk for long, it's really sore 'down there' and I feel so under the weather. Has anyone heard of an infection that has these symptoms??

PizPizPiz · 10/10/2006 15:12
Smile
Frothycoffeegirl · 10/10/2006 15:07

Thanks Piz, you're a star, I need a lot of optimism at the moment!

PizPizPiz · 10/10/2006 15:05

I always get sore boobs the day after ov, so you might have ov on 20th Sept, after you stopped testing. If your last bding was 3 days before that, you could still have fallen pg if your CM was of good quality. I would keep testing for another week and then go to gp if you still feel funny and keep getting negatives.
Yes, I'm a hopeless optimist and proud of it

Frothycoffeegirl · 10/10/2006 14:54

I love your optimism! But I tested twice yesterday, and nothing... also, I tried using those ov. kits, used more than I should just in case I ov. early but no + signs at all! Must have used so many of those sticks. It got me down so much that I stopped, right after what I thought was my ov. time (ending on around 17 Sept). Got really really sore boobs on 21 Sept, then that was it, no AF, just... yucky brown stuff for a couple of days. Do you think I should leave it for a couple of days and test again? Or am I too far after BDing to be pregnant?

PizPizPiz · 10/10/2006 14:49

Frothy, did you bd just before ov ? The brown slimy stuff could be implantation spotting. I'd advise you to test right now.
