Any older mums ttc (late 30s)?

I was just wondering how many of the ttc people were in their late 30s or 40s.

I am 38 and started ttc this year. It would be nice if we could support each other.

Hello ladies, just wanted to say that my cousin (43) just had a beautiful girl, my colleague (42) ditto and my mum's neighbour's daughter (44) ditto! My sister in law (37) is about 8 weeks pregnant too - so don't give up hope anybody!

duchesse · 07/11/2006 14:29

Also, can I just mention that three babies have been born to friends and relations in the last four weeks. Is it just me, or does everyone seem to be pregnant at the moment?

duchesse · 07/11/2006 14:27

Hi all, I'm dipping a careful toe into this ttc thread, having spent three years trying to beget little Vlad, who miscarried at 12 weeks, nearly three weeks ago, possibly due to a neural tube defect (lot of fluid around neck)

I spent my first year obsessively charting temperatures, second in a depression and third tried as much as possible to forget about it all.

I am 38, and have three older children: a boy of 13, and two girls of 11 and 9. This one, if it ever comes, is supposed to be my last. My husband is also 38 (one day older than me in fact). We would have been 39 by the time Vlad had been born; who knows how old we will be when/ if we have another one?

Be as pushy as you can be to get in for an op before xmas. Explain you've been waiting and feel like you should be prioritised due to last cancellation and that you will reco-operate better in Mauritius (how lovely btw) - maybe they can get you in for a cancellation.

In other words - Lay it on thick and don't hold back the tears - it's amazing what results they get

oinker · 06/11/2006 14:13

Thanks........

I had it all planned out. My original appointment was the 16/10 but there was a gas leak outside the hospital so appointment cancelled.
I was hoping to have my op back then.
We have booked to go off to Mauritius for xmas and new year. I really wanted it done to recouperate and perhaps try to conceive out there. It doesn't look as though that's going to happen now.

Juicylucythe2nd · 06/11/2006 13:54

Oinker - good luck for your appt tomorrow. Will be thinking of you. Hope you don't have to wait too long for your op.xx

oinker · 06/11/2006 13:26

I am 38 and have been trying since 2004. I have had six m/c's including twins. I am under investigation for treatment. I have hospital appointment in the morning and am dreading it. I already know that they are planning an op. Prof wanted me to loose a bit of weight which I have done. I suppose I will get a date for op. I have a septate uterus, fibroids and scar tisseu all of this needs fixing. They are planning an operative hysteroscopy.

I beleive I am an exceptionall case. i have tried starting threads etc about various parts of the proceures I have been thru but not many responses.

I never new anything about these problems until I tried conceiving. I had no indication of anything being wrong. Fortunately my eggs are very fresh, so my biological clock isn't ticking too fast.

I am not giving up until I am told to by the Professionals. And that's only if they say there is no hope....

Just found out that one of my friends is pregnant with her first. She is 38yo, has been trying since August and is about 8 weeks pregnant. She thought she would have trouble falling pregnant because her periods are erratic.

lemonstartree · 06/11/2006 13:16

Hi Mumfun

I am 41 too and TTC dc 4. I ahve had 2 mc in the last 9 months - so getting pregnant is not the problem, but staying pregnant is!

Just feel I should keep trying a bit longer!!

good luck

jabuti · 30/10/2006 19:06

well, i guess it sounded worst than it was when you wrote it. good luck!

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 30/10/2006 17:51

Yes IF I get pg again I am only telling dh until I get past first hurdle ie 12 weeks

Juicylucythe2nd · 30/10/2006 16:39

Choc - do you tell him about TTC and about this BFP?

Maybe the best thing for his worrying would be to hold off until the 12wk scan next time. That way he will worry less and you won't have to worry about upsetting him.

Obviously don't know how close you are, so only you know best how to handle his concern.

Take Care.xx

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 30/10/2006 16:35

My dad and I are v close and hes coming from a good place. My mum had me at 20 but died at 52 so dad is all i have.He will come round,i kmow

jabuti · 30/10/2006 15:17

hi guys,

im just so pissed off at your dad, choc! please ask him to shut up. who is he to know what your body is telling you? there are plenty of late 30's and 40's mums out there, its common. besides, he comes from a different generation when women had their babies in their 20's.

do listen to your heart about when to try or not, and i hope you have as many babies as you wish!

Mumfun · 30/10/2006 15:07

Hi

Sorry to butt in butIm just finding this thread so useful/interesting as Im thinking of trying for another child at age 41.

Chocolatepeanut -I have had 2 lovely children at age 38 and 9 days short of my 41st birthday. It does get harder to have a child in getting and staying pg but is perfectly possible. Please dont get down. I really thought I would not have a second when I had not conceived by age 40 and was really hacked off about it. But I did have lovely DD.

Best of luck to all trying.

sideways · 30/10/2006 13:53

Oh and ignore your dad

sideways · 30/10/2006 13:53

chocolatepeanut - I'm so so sorry to hear about your miscarriage. You must be devastated .

Pleased to hear you are not giving up, but I hope you take the time you need to get over this one.

Take care of yourself.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 30/10/2006 12:56

I am 39 and have had a misscarriage today at 5 weeks. I got bfp last week after 18 months of ttc and on the first round of clomid 50mg.

I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks in 1992, a dd in 2003 who is 3 next week and lost a dd in april last year who was stillborn at 25 weeks

I was so happy to be pg at last but my dad has just put me on a downer and said "your body is trying to tell you its not meant to be, and youshould give up".

Giving up is the last thing on my mind and I am already urging this bleed to get into full flow so I can start taking my clomid for this month.
I am DESPERATE for another and I said if the medics tell me that there is no reason I should not have another healthy child, then I must listen to them and nobody else.Thats what I told him

wishing1 · 29/10/2006 04:07

Just a quick not about evening primrose oil. I work in the hospital and just the past week have scanned 2 patients with induced liver hepatitis from evening primrose oil. Seems they started getting a little jaundice and really tired, liver function levels irratic so they were asked to stop taking it and things would get better, just thought I would give the warning.

wishing1 · 29/10/2006 04:01

Any of you use an OPK? How did you time sex if you did. The sad thing about me is, I don't care so much about sex until around ovulation and then I"m obsessed and nervous! I am 38 and I know my clock is ticking, ttc since June, I had all the blood work done, everything's fine I have 2 teenagers and trying with my new hubby who has none. I wish so bad I had the BFP, but I'm again in the two week wait. We bd the day before and the day of the positive OPK, hubby studying for another medical exam, hard to get him out of the books

Mirry71 · 24/10/2006 14:24

I know exactly how you feel. Really go for it around days 8-15 but after that....too knackered! so may face similar questions from GP!

1n2s · 24/10/2006 13:38

Hi Mirry71 - no I don't like the thought of taking lots of remedies etc but I was advised by my Dr to be taking folic acid if TTC which I've been on for 8months. I was also quizzed my GP last week as to how often we have sex - bit nosey I know (shock). She said we should being doing it 2-3times a week and not just around ovulation time. Must admit - we go for it every other day between day 10 and 16 and am using OTK to help but too knackered to be at it all the time. I'm going back before xmas if nothing happens to have blood tests done - I guess these will be for POS and Thyroid check. I'll probably go alone although DH v supportive and would happily come with me.

Mirry71 · 24/10/2006 13:28

will do - thank you very much x

Juicylucythe2nd · 24/10/2006 12:57

Mirry - We started TTC in Oct 2004 and I didn't get a BFP until April 2006 (sadly ended in mc, but now 9weeks). All our tests showed us as normal and I got approved for IUI and IVF, but fell naturally twice before my appts.

It really is just good for peace of mind - If your periods are regular it's unlikely there is anything wrong.

Fingers crossed for you - let us know how you get on. xx

Mirry71 · 24/10/2006 12:53

Good thought...i will tell him that...oh well it's set for 2 weeks time. I am just so worried about what they say...still i guess better to know than not.
