Any older mums ttc (late 30s)?

I was just wondering how many of the ttc people were in their late 30s or 40s.

I am 38 and started ttc this year. It would be nice if we could support each other.

PosyParker, I had 2 follicles on one ovary on a Day 3 scan. I asked how many they like to see and she said 4 or 5 and if they see 7 or 8 they then start worrying about PCOS. Having said that 4-5 is the optimum number of follicles, the Dr did reassure me that just because there were 2 it doesn't mean that I can't achieve a healthy pregnancy and not to worry. Hope that answers your question.

Hi again Dizzy. My FSH was 7.2 which I was told was good because it was under 10 and not just 9 but 7.2. It seems that your accupuncture and EPO - what is that? - are working to bring your levels down.

I am 41.5, have two children, one a surprise, the other planned and in the 2nd month of ttc, had early miscarriage in Nov 04 and have been ttc'ing since April 2004. Am not giving up!!

hi dizzy my day 3 bllod test was fine, but day 21, had a few show no ovulation, just waiting to see gyno for it

dizzy36 · 02/03/2006 16:12

hi everyone, hope its ok for me to butt in. was reading messages and made me feel more hopeful (which is the idea I know)

I'm 37, ttc for 3 years with m.c 2 years ago so been trying since then. have 1 ds (6)

very reassurring to see other late 30's mums. At 37 have been thinking am too old.

I'd like to ask have any of you had your follicle stimulating hormone tested on day 2 or 3 and if so has it been slightly elevated or normal (less than 10)?. Mine was elevated last year (14.5) and I was told my ovarian reserve was low. last month was 12.2 so coming down (been doing acupuncutre and EPO). I've been given the impression that I won't be one of these women that can have a baby as I get nearer 40 which is quite a scary thought (the no baby not the reaching 40!).

anyone with any thoughts on this?

MillaH · 01/03/2006 15:54

I am 37 and have a 4 year old, a 2 year old and a six week old. I had no trouble conceiving them except the first one, he took over a year. I would like to try for another in the next couple of months even though that might mean having four under six!

Smole · 01/03/2006 15:22

Hi I'm 37 - no children. Been trying for 2 years. Have had 2 complete m/c's and 1 missed m/c. Still trying!

sideways · 01/03/2006 14:32

hi everyone, glad (if you see what I mean) that I'm not the only one.

Nellie - of course you count Smile

Nicola - that must be hard for you, best of luck.

I hope we can all support each other here. I don't know why I assumed I would just get pregnant immediately like last time, but I was very disappointed it didn't happen. I think I need to get realistic.

The problem is that I think it can become very easy to get a bit obsessed by it all and stress doesn't help. At the moment, I am trying to improve my diet, not drink as much and do a bit of exercise and trying to get dp to do the same. I really wish I had started ttc this time last year, but there's nothing I can do to change that.

I'm 42, no children, not actively ttc at the moment as I have just sadly had a m/c (my second one), but once all the investigations results are in, and I have had a hysteroscopy to clear some adhesions in my uterus, I will be ttc again.

I only started ttc last year for the first time in my life, after 25 years on the pill. I've had problems but am determined to keep trying at the moment.

Auntymandy · 01/03/2006 14:16

Nulnul that is so rude! She can't be a very good friend in fact she sounds a b*ch! I too look and feel much younger than I am.
I really feel I have been planning my parenting in a responsible way and this time is right for us. I just hope nature will cooperate and we'll eventually have the family we want. I couldn't think about ttc #2 before now because we just had an international move anyway. Next time you get any comments, mention Susan Sarandon, who is gorgeous, intelligent and so accomplished. She has 3 kids, the FIRST of whom was born when she was 39!
Sorry for the long rambling post...

angelp · 28/02/2006 20:44

sideways I feel exactly the same about age gap. Keep thinking they will have nothing in common even now let alone if it gets any bigger. But then can't plan these things - unfortunately. Will keep trying but I giess at some point will have to admit defeat if it doesn't happen

Piffle · 28/02/2006 20:42

I'm 35.5 and had ds at 22, dd at 32
Both easily conceived
Now I am one tube lost (ectopic rupture) and god knows how many early miscarriages
But am continuing nevertheless....

nulnulcat · 28/02/2006 20:41

skerriesmum i dont feel old and i get dont know about you but i get offended being referred to as an older mum! someone i know found out i would be planning baby no 3 to arrive sometime when i was 38ish and she accused me of being selfish! and i would embarress my children when i picked them up from school!!!she was only 20 something though! best thing is i dont look anywhere near my age and no one believes me when i tell them in in my 30's

skerriesmum · 28/02/2006 18:41

nulnulcat I'm the same as you, I'd like to have 3 eventually... and ttc the last one at 37 or 38...!

skerriesmum · 28/02/2006 18:40

I'm 35 too with a 3 year old ds. This is month 4 of ttc we'll see how things go! I guess I'm not THAT old but this is the age when they start talking about genetic testing. In fact the system where I live (Canada) calls the prenatal care the Advanced Maternal Age Program!
Good luck everyone!

meowmix · 28/02/2006 13:26

sorry posyp I'm no good with the medical details. Does anyone know how long on average it takes for cycles to settle down after you come off the pill?

posyparker · 28/02/2006 13:17

I had an ultrasound in early Jan (had been having pain during bd) - my doc said everything looks great, they could see an ovary with 2 follicles about to release an egg. Does anyone know whether 2 follicles is good or bad? How many are you supposed to have?

Jan and Feb have been a bit odd - really horrible heavy af mid-Jan (think liver - tmi?) then just one day really light bleed on Feb 13 (thought it might be implantation), then nothing since. Am currently cd 47 (!!) if you don't count the light bleed but got 3 BFNs last week and one more at docs yesterday.

Any ideas about the follicle thing anyone?

notasheep · 28/02/2006 13:00

ds took 2 yrs to conceive and i had him at 41.

I suddenly conceived after stopping being obsessive about it-to such an extent that we dont actually know when he was conceived!

Good luck to everyone-surprises do happen

trace2 · 28/02/2006 12:57

meowmix, dont matter waether its two days or two years, hun we all feel the same

meowmix · 28/02/2006 12:52

me - 36 been trying since Jan so early days, esp as it took 5 years (and booking a massively expensive holiday, new sofa and sports car) to get pg last time. This year feels a bit last chance saloon for me if I'm honest.

trace2 · 28/02/2006 12:50

i am 39 40 in april and ttc, for 14months now, come and join us on our feb thread

RedRidingHood · 27/02/2006 20:05

My dd is 2.4 and took 3 yrs to conceive. I am now 37 and have been trying for a year - unwilling to put any pressure on by seeking medical intervention as dd was such a bonus but still hoping.

nulnulcat · 27/02/2006 20:03

im 35 with 2 year old got new partner will be trying for baby no 2 next year and want one more after but i wouldnt class myself as an older mum
