I was just wondering how many of the ttc people were in their late 30s or 40s.

I am 38 and started ttc this year. It would be nice if we could support each other.

Yes me - I'm 37 and have a two year old ds. Have only been trying properly for a couple of months.

MiniLlace · 16/03/2009 08:30

Ladies - doesnt matter what age we are .. it will eventually happen - I posted here a couple of weeks ago Im 38 and TTC for 14 months - finally got my BFP and am now 5+2 - fingers crossed its a sticky one!!

pelvicflawed · 03/03/2009 17:29

Good to see this thread even if it started quite a while ago - its really cheered me up. I'm 39 TTC no.2 - has DS when I was 36 - I got pregnant last year but it didn't work out so have been trying since about last October. Some positive stories that it can happen are just what I need when I'm feeling down about it all!!

MiniLlace · 03/03/2009 13:29

Hi there Im new here too - turned 38 at the end of last year and am TTC to conceive our first after getting married in late 2007. Had an early MC in Jan 2008 and TTC conceive since - suddenly feel my PMA is up again .. good to see soo many older ladies TTC

Missmyrtle · 03/03/2009 07:07

Hi, I am new here too so if it's okay I will just pop in here.
I am 38 in a few days and have been TTC for three years. Those years were with a BF with sluggish sperm and I guess I had given up but now have a much younger BF who is desperate TC. Mmm..I don't want to go through all the agony of hoping again but my body clock is jumping off the wall.
I had one MC in 2006 at 9wks and have 1 DD who who is almost 18. Long gap...fitness is awful now and a bit overweight not to mention my love of G&T's .
My GP said there is no reason for infertility in me but I can't help wonder if losing some pounds would help??

RnR · 17/02/2009 14:46

Hi, I am new to MN and I am ttc for my first, 40 in May...
Been trying for a year now and starting to get a bit worried.
Does anyone know anything about what to do if you don't notice any 'eggwhite' mucous during ovulation?

sahmtotwo · 10/01/2007 00:32

Sorry haven't read the thread but just to let you know it is possible. I had my first at 38 after trying for 6 years and getting no help. Had my second after 3 years with help from the conception clinic. Just had a lovely surprise this Christmas I'm pregnant again without even trying to conceive and with no help. It's only 18 months after my second was born and I will be 43 when it's born. So it is possible. Good luck to everyone TTCing hope 2007 is your year.

maisiemog · 10/01/2007 00:20

that's what I meant to do

maisiemog · 10/01/2007 00:03

Hello, anyone around?? [smile}

sleeplessinhants · 29/12/2006 19:55

Maisiemog, Thanks for suggesting the netmums site had never heard of it before and it looks very helpful

maisiemog · 28/12/2006 22:21

Oh dear, I'm sure you will find someone to talk to over on the pregnancy discussion area here
If you look at the top of all the conversations (threads) you will see this
To create a new conversation in the "Pregnancy" topic, go here
click on 'here' and put in a suitable title e.g. anyone else in the medway area expecting in July, or something like that.

Does that help at all?
Are there any pre-baby type groups where you are? I went to an NCT bumps and babies thing before I had my little boy, which I found on the Internet. Most people there had already had there babies, but it was good to hear about their experiences, because I was a bit worried about what to expect.
Another good site is netmums . They have a bit for pregnant mums and you should be able to find clubs events etc... in you local area.

This area of mumsnet is where people come when they are still trying for a baby, so you are doing pretty well from that point of view.

Breadpudding · 28/12/2006 14:23

Hi there, new to this, (website and pregnancy!)

Late 30's, pregnant, trying to work out how to start a new link and failed so just wondering how I find out if there are any other similar women in my situation in the Medway towns in Kent. Am feeling pretty isolated!

Thanks very much!

maisiemog · 28/12/2006 14:10

Not finding the festive season the ideal time to TTC. It's pretty hard to get through Christmas with no alcohol or coffee and finding time between shopping and travelling and cooking for BDing - not easy.
Best of luck for babies in 2007 though.

maisiemog · 23/12/2006 23:43

You are very welcome Sleepless and LittleStar, I hope you both have great Christmases with your LO's.
I'm plotting my chart of Fertility Friend - haven't managed to take my temp at all so far, can never remember first thing and when I do remember it's the afternoon. [rolls eyes]
Has anyone else read the 'coursework' that they send? I am kind of struggling to keep up with it, on lesson 19 or something now and haven't had time to read the last three or four properly. Cor it's hard work all this isn't it?

I don't know how well I'll manage to do with the complete avoidance of alcohol.
Just have another choccie now. Yum yum!

littlestar · 22/12/2006 21:37

Thanks maisiemog, you're so right and I'm definitely feeling a bit more positive today. I've ordered some books about conception so I can get more info about supplements, diet etc and feel a bit more in control. Like you, I have been prone to depression in the past and I don't want to go there again, especially as I already have such a fab little boy who is the light of my life.

Like you say, it's boring - and I've never been very patient at waiting! But hopefully it will all be worthwhile and in the meantime at least I've got Mumsnet to take my mind off things

sleeplessinhants · 22/12/2006 20:00

P.S Good luck with the BD

sleeplessinhants · 22/12/2006 19:55

Thanks Maisiemog,(just logged on) feeling alot more positive now thanks. Your last message struck a chord with me about focusing on the potential baby and not on the one here. DS is growing so quickly I sometimes forget he is still a baby Really looking forward to first Christmas with him. Last shop today, I am not going anywhere near a supermarket till well into the new year

Have a brilliant xmas everyone

maisiemog · 22/12/2006 15:47

Hi Little star, I'm sorry to hear you are feeling fed-up. I hope your little boy is cheering you up, and reminding you that you are a lovely mummy already and have lots of great qualities.
We hadn't planned for our DS so haven't had to think about this before, as it's all new we've only had one month of not succeeding, but I can see that if it went on for months it would be totally frustrating. I think particularly if you had no idea why.
It sounds positive that you have had tests done, so you have something to address, rather than having no idea what the hold-up is.
Do you know what your GP has planned for you?
On the plus side - you did conceive your DS, so you know you have been capable before.
My approach is not to be too optimistic, because I don't want to get depressed if it takes ages/doesn't happen. Kind of treating it like an experiment almost, you know keeping a distance slightly.
I don't know if it would work for you, but for me it helps that I have a lot of other projects which are kind of like babies. This is what I have been thinking about whilst I was planning to TTC. I can be a bit prone to depression and have to manage my feelings quite carefully, so I hope that I will be able to keep perspective by not focussing too much on TTC. I hope this works, it has worked in other difficult situations in the past. I really don't want to get very down about this.
I do worry sometimes that I might focus too much on the potential baby and not enough on the actual baby that I have and I hate to feel that he isn't enough. How do you avoid feeling that way?
Anyway, I'm not being very positive here. I wish you the best of luck for the new year.
Could I ask are you taking any of the supplements recommended on this thread?
It's a bit boring all the waiting isn't it?
Merry Christmas everyone on this thread.

duchesse · 21/12/2006 11:08

Hi Littlestar- it is hard when everyone around you seems pregnant (and they do!!). Stick around here- we're all pretty much in the same boat...

You are getting medical help now, and should soon know whether there is a treatable problem. And CD18 is not too bad- there are ladies on the TTC after miscarriage who are now pregnant despite extremely erratic cycles (anything up to 45-50 days). Taking charge of your fertility, so that you begin to spot your fertile times, is quite the best thing to do.

Hang in there.

littlestar · 20/12/2006 20:13

I'm almost 37 and we have been ttc for about 7 months (DS is almost 21 months). I recently had the blood tests which indicated I may not be ovulating. This month I've also been using persona and test sticks for the first time - I'm on CD18 now and no sign of anything. We are waiting for the results of DH's first sperm test but I am feeling so despondent. Another friend has just called to say she's pregnant with her second child (the second friend this week). I feel so hopeless and pathetic

maisiemog · 17/12/2006 22:51

Is anyone going to be ovulating around Christmas day?
I have my AF now - day four. It's my first month of charting anything, and I haven't managed to take my temp in the morning yet, because my horrible little boy finds the thermometer beside the bed and runs off with it.
Anyone else using Fertility Friend and charting temps and so on?
I have a basic digital thermometer, but have just ordered a basal body temp thermometer from Twinkle baby wotsit on Ebay, so hopefully I will be able to start charting in the next few days.
If I turn out to have a fairly standard cycle then I will have to be looking to BD from Christmas Eve onwards - which will be challenging, as we will have guests, and will be travelling quite a bit around this time. Hmm!
January might be a better month for us, because we will be skint and staying in a lot.

maisiemog · 16/12/2006 21:26

Sorry I see you said New Year. I'm so rubbish at all this.
How are you feeling now?

maisiemog · 16/12/2006 21:25

Hi there, come on in!!
How are you feeling? Sorry to hear what happened. Are you TTC just now, or is there a wait?
How is your LO, sleeping well I hope?

sleeplessinhants · 16/12/2006 20:04

xmas greetings. Can I join this thread? Have one DS almost 12mths by IVF. Unsucessful embryo transfer in November hope to try again in new year,I'm 37.

maisiemog · 16/12/2006 19:40

Hi Xmassy, us too. It's really been the past month that we have been trying by paying attention to the timing etc... It's quite tricky because I never really knew when my period was due in the past and didn't have a clue about any of this stuff.
It's quite sad, but I think we struggle to find the time to BD, because I work evenings and one day at the weekend, so by the time I get in from work and eat, I'm half asleep.
We already have a little boy of 25 months and kind of wanted him to have started nursery before trying again.
My local Boots only had a thermometer for £12.99 today, so I'm just going to order one from Ebay and save a few pounds for all the supplements that have been recommended.
There seem to be digital ones and non-digital (whatever the correct term is??? )
It looks I'll be ovulating over Christmas, so not sure how that's going to work out - it's hectic enough as it is.
