TTC after birth before af - any experiences??

Anyone got experience of getting pg without having af and I was just wondering how you knew and whether you were trying! I know that sounds strange but I am bfeeding my 9mth old (only once or twice a day though), not using any contraception....! Not had any af since giving birth. Wondering if they'll ever return... Thankyou!!

I've just been reading 'Taking Charge of your Fertility', so that's where I got the stuff abt. oestrogen from. The best way to tell if you've ovulated is taking your basal body temperature, and if there's a shift after your stretchy cm then you know you have. I just had nice stretchy cm for a few days, but my temp went right down again afterwards, so I know I didn't ovulate.

I haven't found anything abt. cervix while pg there but in our antenatal class they used the illustration of your cervix changing from nose to lip when it starts dilating so I presumed it must close again when pg - plus to stop baby falling out Grin

bobblehead - I think it means its getting closer, though apparently the stretchy patches CAN continue for months b4 you actually ovulate Sad and your af returns.

Fresco - have you seen our thread on the \link{http://www.accessdiagnostics.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_ISIS_Ovulation_Microscope.html\isis scope}? Its great for working out fertile time (using saliva) if you have no af like us lot!

you see beartime what you said 'heavycm indicates your ovulation is on its way back, but the oestrogen needs to get to a high enough level for you to ovulate, so it may have several tries with heavycm b4 you actually ovulate'.
well, i am so ignorant on the subject, i only did research on the basics which isnt enough sometimes.so people like me keep asking questions.
i was so obsessed when ttc dd2.but b/feeding didnt help i must say.i b/f for 2 years and only conceived whendd1 was 14 months.my periods were incredibly erratic
we are now ttc just like rubbymummy.so when cm seems stretchy enough i pester dh and we have sex (dont think enough yet though, only once/wk) but have to start more often now.and when cervix comes back low and like the tip of nose i know then it didnt work.thats why i was asking if if you pregnant, cervix stays high and feel like bottom lip

hi bobblehead.its so nice to see other people in the same boat (sorry that you are though).i am sure that with the time, we will get pregnant again, just a question of patience (well, thats what i keep saying to myself.i dont want to start my obsessions again as i did for dd2)

had dd last jan (05). bf and never got my periods back. just before stopping bf in jan i started to get sick alot, not like me so did FR test and it was pos.

am about 18 weeks now but not sure so will find out for sure next mon in scan

Thats interesting about the cm Beartime. So if I've had some around the same time for the last couple of months, but no af, does that mean I should soon ovulate again?

Piccadillycircus, you friend who did pregnancy tests, did they come out neg or pos?
dd2 was born 3 months ago now, and after a c-section, i still havent my af back. I never thought i would love to have them back one day. we are ttc #3 now, but just so frustrating when i dont know where i am with my body.i cant even use persona as i dont know where i am in my cycles.i look out for cm, that slowly is getting back to the normal pattern and the position of cervix. however, i dont know if after the fertile period, if you pregnant, does it stay open and high?

I know someone who conceived while breastfeeding and didn't discover they were pregnant until they were about 20 weeks pregnant. They had done pregnancy tests before that as well.

haven't read the whole thread so might be completely confusing the whole thread! as far as not having a period after giving birth, believe me....you can still get pregnant! i had no period after my first child and was pregnant when she was 3 months old and again when my son was 3 months old! (that's why they're all 12 months apart!)

Hello RubyMummy!!! Yep - I concieved DD2 when I was still breast-feeding 7 month old DD1 and hadn't had an af - It IS very possible!! Grin No af for nearly 2 years - was bliss and totally worth it, they are 2 years and 9 months now and they are hard work, but completely fabby, wouldn't have done it any other way!! Smile All the very best honey!! xx

RubyMummy, I conceived when my dd was 11 months old and before I got AF back. Thought AF had returned but it was an implantation bleed - found out I was pregnant at 10 weeks!

its always disappointing isn't it? even when you know..I will wait another week or 2 before I put myself through it, although with dd's sleep right now (or lack of) I may not be too disappointed with a bfn!
