I have a 3 yr DS, I 'm trying for another, and don't get me wrong, I'd love another boy very much if I had one but I would dearly love a girl. I know they myths are a load of rubbish, but ahything is worth a try.

Any myths greatly received

Both DDs were conceived prior to ovulation - so theory works on me. JTO, I'm amazed at your wealth of knowledge on this topic! Sounds like you've actually read the books. I actually bought Shettles, but haven't read it.

mi - does your dh work in a hot environment or is he a deep sea diver?! Does he smoke or drink a lot. Various factors are supposed to reduce the quality of male sperm as they are less hardy than female sperm. The female sperm are then favoured at any point in the cycle. (This is how the theory goes ...!)

Dunno about dd2 but dd1 was definitely the result of ovulating a couple of days after conception. Because that's how I got pregnant

To be on the safe side, for a girl you're supposed to start 4 days before ovulation. If that doesn't work then go down to 3 days, and only to 2 days if 3 days doesn't work after a few times of trying. Boys are much easier - either bang on ovulation or just after. So M2T in theory it's a boy - do let us know!

Btw - I haven't put this to the test yet - just read the book and will be giving it a go in due course.

Well I bd'd about 3 days after my ovulation pains..... s'pose that means I have conceived another boy!! Hmph.

I totally believe it too. Had sex a couple of days before ovulation with my first born and as Shettles predicted ended up with a girl....for my 2nd (currently in utero and expected April 2004) had sex on the day of ovulation and I have conceived a boy - as Shettles predicts

Tinyfeet's explanation is right. Shettles explains that female sperm live longer but swim slower, whereas male sperm swim faster but die quickly if there is no egg around when they reach their destination.

I don't think it's a myth - I think it's real - you will want to have sex a day or 2 BEFORE you ovulate - not on the day you ovulate. This has something to do with how fast the female carrying sperm swim and how long they live - or something like that. Look up 'Shettles method' on google search - you should be able to get much better info than I'm providing here.
