mumtum you are on the very cusp of the time when things are seen/not seen - and even with the very best equipment (the machine may not have been the best one - I noticed a massive difference in the clarity of the picture in the couple of days between a private scan and an epu one (epu was a few days later, too)) even with the most highly skilled sonographer, you are on the cusp - and the measurements that give the dates (ie, telling you 5+5 from the size of the sac, I guess) at this stage are teeeeny tinnnnny - just a couple of milimeters (look at how miniscule they are!) can make a couple of days difference in their calculations. PLUS! Even if you were charting and knew the exact day you ovulated, what you wouldn't know for sure is when you implanted and that's when the baby and all the gubbins starts to grow. Implanting a day a two after the mean average they will calculate their figures from will skew your result slightly particularly at this cusp stage!

Ok, bottom line: I can't guarantee everything is fine, as much as I'd love to. But right now I think you have many reasons to be hopeful (everything I've mentioned plus no pain or bleeding) although I understand why you'd be metalling like crazy that it's all over.

ALso, no way would I be waiting two weeks! If you can't afford a private scan then I guess you'll have to, but I would be going along in about a week and paying. Incidently, most private places won't scan before 7 weeks because of the senario you're in - it's often too soon for anything definitive (other than confirming sac isn't ectopic) before then.

Hang in there, lady.

tits I'm so glad you got the meds... but can't help smiling at the result of taking them! Talk about damned if you do, damned if you don't!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 28/04/2012 11:35

You know metalling has reached a new high/low when I'm sat here worrying about not feeling sick ..... After taking that anti sickness tablets from the dr Blush

WhyAlwaysBoris · 28/04/2012 11:04

mumtum no words of wisdom to add to the very good advice given above, but thinking of you.

OP posts:
sunshinesue · 28/04/2012 10:35

what tits said. I can completely understand how despondent you feel mumtum but it's certainly not a done deal yet. don't apologise for posting either, it's what we're here for, good and bad. I've never understood why they make you wait two weeks between scans though, surely as the embryo grows at such a rate in the first few weeks one would be sufficient to guage any changes? thinking of you x

TitsalinaBumSquash · 28/04/2012 10:11

mumtum poor you, such stress to have to wait.
There are hundreds of similar stories on t'interweb where women haven't seen a yolk at this stage and the lack of bleeding/pain is good.
I am also aware none of this will make you feel better.

BlueCrane · 28/04/2012 10:05

Oh mumtum just wanted to pop on and give you a big hang in there but I know it's really not easy at all! The whole thing is such a rollercoaster and not a nice one at that! So so sorry you've got to wait 2 weeks...it's standard practice that they will say to do that but just a hideously long time before getting any clarity!

bonzo77 · 28/04/2012 09:56

don't be sorry. I have to say, there is no such thing as "always" and "never" in medical stuff. The world is just not like that. I've passed many a multiple choice exam on the basis of that! Hang on in there, you are only 2 days off that magic 5+4. It's not over till the fat lady sings....

MumTumWanted · 28/04/2012 09:48

Thanks bonzo it was dildo cam they didn't even try abdominally I feel like I've given up all hope already after I read that ALWAYS by 5+4 you will see a yolk sac :( I've gone over and over my dates and I'm convinced I'm 5+6 now so I should have seen the yolk sac and the sonographer was very thorough SadSad I'm devastated already my dh is like its fine if was just to early your not bleeding lets just wait and see bless him but I just hot that feeling now you know ? Sorry for the me me again Sad

bonzo77 · 28/04/2012 08:58

oh mumtum how worrying. The next 2 weeks must feel like a long wait, it would for me. Did they say what gestation the scan seemed to show? I phoned around some private scanning places yesterday and they said it was best not to come before 6 weeks, and 7 or 8 would be better, because it is so hard to see things well before then. Also, did you have a dildo cam or just the transabdominal? Early scans are sometimes clearer vaginally, especially if you have a retroverted uterus, which apparently is the case in 1 in 5 of us.

MumTumWanted · 28/04/2012 07:40

Just a quick update by my dates they say 5+5 yesterday. Scan showed gestation sac but it's empty. Usually by 5+4 a yolk sac should be seen within the gs. Could be dates being off but I know that's unlikely. So much for scan for reassurance I now have to wait 2 weeks for another scan 'unless I start bleeding before that' I'm so Sad and upset sorry ladies for bringing the thread down xxxxx

MarthasHarbour · 27/04/2012 21:31

look manda it is simples, you buy the Bolly, bring it round to mine and i will keep some aside for you for 2 years time lies

reading your post i can see how relaxing your pregnancy was with DS2, and my DS is a similar age so i know how exhausting it is at the mo never mind with a 2yo into the mix. I have no advice really just empathy, i think you are in a good position in that not only do you have DF but you also have DD and DS1, a little trio of grown up helpers Smile i just know you are going to get lots of support and things will work out just fine.

Ooo we are moving house too, we dont live in the south so we are just chuffed that the EA is going to market our property for £16k more than we paid for it (our area has kept its value but not by London standards IYSWIM) however i can see that you and DF are far more attractive buyers than the huuuuge chain buyers. I say definitely go for the offer again and just lay on the table that you are good to go.

countrymouse every time i get a coffee from anywhere i sniff it and do a taste test to see if it is a 'pregnancy coffee' i am completely bonkers as you can see! Grin

think i am OVing, got a little stabby pain in my right side, me and DH did some shagging last night and wednesday night so fingers crossed! we CBA tonight but will give his wrigglers a rest and do some more tomorrow Wink

NoMoreMarbles · 27/04/2012 20:56

Marking my place (again) I started my new job and it's time and energy consuming to say the least (plus it's crap and I hate it already) so I barely have the breath left to eat never mind MNHmm I am looking for a more MN friendly enjoyable opportunity...

StateofConfusion · 27/04/2012 20:27

Thanks country enjoy all the sex Wink

CountryMouse27 · 27/04/2012 20:09

Agree, a very special feeling indeed. Enjoy it as much as possible and try to put the last experience to the back of your mind as much as you can.

StateofConfusion · 27/04/2012 19:34

Thanks country its weird feeling, kind of pressure but not. Just something.

Shame about your nasty coffee, good luck on the quest for BFP, my MMC was december, erpc on the 12th. And I'm now 7wks. Still in shock I think!

CountryMouse27 · 27/04/2012 18:25

oh state I know what you mean. You kind of feel like your insides are super busy doing something incredibly important. I felt very different and sort of held myself differently.

This week is my first cycle since mmc and when my coffee tasted rank I was like Grin but then thought hang on where's the rest. Turned out it was just nasty coffee and get to have lots more sex before a BFP Wink

StateofConfusion · 27/04/2012 17:07

I'm swinging between full on metalling and insane happiness! This is one hell of a ride huh!

Good news is no more cramps and aches, I have a feeling something is there, its weird I can't explain it tbh? Anyone know what I mean.

Midgetm · 27/04/2012 15:41

Thanks kirrin and thanks stateofconfusion for making me feel less old and tired.

Manda He's lovely he is. Got a nice kind face. I also know what you are saying about the exhaustion being emotional and physical. Even though when I was pregnant with DD I had experienced loss before I was still less fearfull. Since the losses piled up and the biological clock ramped up a bit it has added to the fear and I also think the exhaustion. I too just want to fast forward but I am terrified at the thought of getting near the end. Rightly or wrongly I feel this is my last chance motel. Bearing in mind the gap between DD1 & hopefully DC2 will be 5 years I don't have another 5 years in me (currently 40 - yikes - when did that happen). My experience with DD1 also taught me you don't just have to worry about MC early on as we were bloody lucky to get her out in time. This makes it all knackering and weird and yet totally amazing as I know how very lucky I am.

Anyway consider yourself well and truly licked and I also watched your New Look thing. Just love the poke out bump, hold it and thrust hips forward mumtum pose they made you all do! You are very brave and I have bump envy - I currently just look really fat and have lost my waist. I thought you looked rightfully uncomfortable when they were raving about how good it is to have 5 tops. I mean it's alright and eveything but better things have happended to us all, right? lovely to put a face to the name (even if they got your name wrong...)

Cannot focus today. I have a grown up and responsible job and i am neither grown up or responsible please don't tell on me.

MandaHugNKiss · 27/04/2012 14:50

Oh, and following a conversation with my mum earlier, I'm just baout to watch this: Prof.Winston on this morning

It's only 15mins or so, but Mum reckons they talked about miscarriage and addressing loss of pregnancy so might be reassuring/comforting/informative to some of us?

MandaHugNKiss · 27/04/2012 14:42

oooh, cross post with eddie marff Thank goodness it's you who has to wear that loud christian lacroix stuff!

Hmmm. Bolly. I very nearly ordered six bottle of champagne from sainsburys earlier because it's 25% off if you order six - plus they already have a couple of decent ones that are discounted to begin with making them bargainous to snap up now. But I restrained myself when I realised it will be some time before I can properly indulge. Especially if this baby is anything like DS2 and refuses to give up the boob until way beyond 2years old...

MandaHugNKiss · 27/04/2012 14:31

midge I was just thinking the other day that when I was pregnant with DS1, I worked full time, had DD (who was 2.8 when DS1 arrived) and I absolutely breezed through that pregnancy (well, as much as you do with five admissions for bleeding when you have placenta previa...). But I had no sickness. Bar a single moment on a bus. And metalling didn't even exist in my vocab (I didnt even worry when I was in hospital for bleeding - just blindly thought everything would be fine!). And I was 23.

DS2 was not too bad, despite being 12 years later -I was already a sahm, so no 'work' to worry about, and with my other two being older I could go off to bed when I felt I needed to. Grinding nausea weeks 7-14/15 and reoccuring uti's (couple of hospitalisations for those, too) but all in all, I didn't consider it a rough pregnancy...

Then losing Teddy. After the grinding nausea again but the inability to rest when I needed/wanted because of DS2. Then the whole emotional turmoil of the following months/ttc. Then straight back into another pregnancy.

I'm exhausted. Like, truly. And for the first time in late pregnancy, I'm damn uncomfortable. Groin/pelvis periodically plays up after that inital agony about 5 weeks ago. Barely slept last night, kept waking with pain in back, or groin, or under bump. Layed there thinking - talk about caught between a rock and hard place: I am so uncomfortable I want the pregnancy to be over, yet on the other hand I'm emotionally and practically unprepared for the baby. So... I'm stuck in some middle land not wishing for either but wanting both? How does that even work?! I'm 38 now. I don't really think it's my age, per se, that's had such a massive difference in my experience this time. I think I'm just emotionally and physically exhausted. I think we forget, in the days of ttc (desperately!) after a loss that our bodies and minds need time to recover and recharge... But we do we do because we kinda have to, right? Talking sense with hindsight is all very well and good but I think most of us will recognise how rabid/low/desperate the need to ttc can make us to the point that we just. Won't. Wait.

Oh, and we viewed a house saturday. Made an offer that was turned down and with some detective work (the house is down the same rd DF's mum lives down) we've discovered the offer they're accepting is only 10k more than ours (it needs work. Quite a bit) but has a huge chain involved - we're chain free. So are going to make the same offer today.

midge what I think I'm saying is I probably need a bit of a lick Grin Great result on your NT - mine was 1:3200 or 3400 but the consultant at the FMC said the results couldn't have actually been any better at my age so as much as it was a lot 'higher' than the 1:13000 I got with DS2 it's still a fab result. As is yours!

mumtum only half an hour to wait - really hoping for some good news from you!

boris good idea re: downloading - they've uploaded it to youtube so I'm sure it's possible but not sure how. Dd or DS1 will know, I'll have to pick one of their brains.

Wow, that was a bit rambly. I have more on my mind than I care to admit most of the time, it seems.

MarthasHarbour · 27/04/2012 14:15

manda i have met my missing link!! Lets head off to Prada and Harvey Nicks sweetie

Brilliant news far and jaffa Grin

Well we spent the afternoon at A&E yesterday as DS's asthma was giving him gip. He is still a bit wheezy but is getting lots of snuggles today. They gave him some steroids and an extra dose of his inhaler and he was buzzin Grin

StateofConfusion · 27/04/2012 14:01

midge not because your old, anyway who said your old! I'm 23 and have yawned all day! I'm exhausted!

kirrinIsland · 27/04/2012 13:01

Great news about the NT results midgetm

mumtum fingers crossed for this afternoon, not long to wait now....

Midgetm · 27/04/2012 11:54

Mumsnet stop stealing my posts.

good luck Mumtum you may be a smidgen too early for a HB if your dates are even just a tiny bit out so don't fret if they don't find one. Got everything crossed for you

Got the app on my phone and I hate it, can't see all your back posts making name checking a frreaking nightmare with this old baby brain of mine.

Seem to remember far and Jaffa need a huge Grin, and a squish and maybe even a cheeky lick. Hurrah for wriggly beans.

Manda - need to get me to a decent computer to see you in your hot pants. I may get popcorn in your honour.

official results for NT back. 1:2300. Did t think that possible at my age but should stop me metalling about that at least. Occasional listen with the Doppler keeping the metalling to manageable proportions but god this tiredness won't just bugger off. Is it because I is old?

Strokes to all those metalling, best pretend to do some work now x
