Great news GPB Grin

hmmm I have to say pebs most consultants are very complimentary of eachother even when they have theories that they disagree with, it is a professional courtesy so I would be suspicious of a consultant that makes such comments.

You know my thoughts of Rai, I think he is a legend and I really hope you get the answers you so deserve. His treatment may indeed be similar but I know that he would have insisted you start heparin at BFP regardless of spotting (I had it too if you remember) Who knows if that would have made a difference but as you say, you have not had a chance to explore that particular avenue yet. He is also an excellent surgeon and if you are having surgery you should be very careful who you let near you with a scalpel! Sorry, I realise I sound very biased but I am :) Good luck with it all, you have had quite a journey and you deserve your lovely snuffly take home baby.

pebspop · 01/05/2012 16:27

thanks martha!

she made a dig about how you can never get hold of robert winston as he is always at the bbc rather than his surgery.

i am sure the private guys won't say any different but i just want to see if they can actually diagnose something rather than guess at asprin and heparin doses.

well done grand!! looks like kirrin is ok as well - she must be at work!

MarthasHarbour · 01/05/2012 14:25

for politicos read politics

although i do rather like that little typo - makes it sound all european! Wink

MarthasHarbour · 01/05/2012 14:24

whoop whoop GPB! Ahoy there little matey bean!!

pebs i second what manda said (as usual Blush) but seriously, if she was dismissive of Robert Winston then she clearly knows fuck all Hmm Grin

NHS Consultants and Docs hate private consultants as they are making shit loads more money than them to basically say the same thing, or so they think. I work in medical regulation and i know a little about the politicos of it all. So as has been said before I would completely 'dismiss' her ego and go and see Mr Raj. He may well tell you the same thing but then again he may offer you so much more reassurance as well as this uterus test you have mentioned.

I once absentmindedly mentioned alternative therapies to a Dr friend of DH's and she gave me this chapter and verse about how if we all went for alternatives then her years of hard work and study are all down the drain Hmm

TBH as soon as you said she dismissed RW then I could tell it was an ego thing. Grin

sunshinesue · 01/05/2012 14:15

high five GPB Grin. Congrats on heartbeat, arms, legs and movement!!! Grin

leedy · 01/05/2012 13:36

YAY GPB!

GrandPoohBah · 01/05/2012 13:21

Ahhhh! (my phone wanted to change that to Ahoy! which made me giggle a bit!)

I have a bean with a heartbeat, AND arms, AND legs, AND it was moving! Actually wriggling a bit! I've never got this far before. Eek! But also yay :)

sunshinesue · 01/05/2012 12:05

sorry you haven't had better news pebs. I agree to go and see Raj, it doesn't sound as though your first consultant has given you much to be positive about and it's nice to get another opinion.

Good luck to those with a scan today! xx

pebspop · 01/05/2012 12:02

thanks manda

She did say she had gone as far as she could with me as there are no more tests she can offer so i needed to be reffered to a RMC such as Liverpool where they do the HSG and offer research type treatment. To be honest, I don't feel like I have given the aspirn and Heparin treatment a good shot yet.

I am not expecting Raj Rai to say anything other than take asprin and heparin so maybe my consultant thinks she could do that anyway so whats the point? I just want to see if he can diagnose something on the tests they do down there that i can;t get anywhere else. He sometimes tells people to take more asprin than i have been advised to take if he finds something.

I will see what he thinks about the polyp.

Robert Winston was on this morning last week and he said the structure of the uterus is one of the first things that should be checked. Mine was ok apart from the tiny polyp.

My consultant was dismissive of Robert Winston as well...

kirrinIsland · 01/05/2012 11:29

peb that sounds very frustrating :( I agree that going to see your guy anyway can't hurt - and then take it from there.

My scan is not til 2pm but then I have to go straight to work (with no Internet) so basically if you don't hear from me til after 11pm, thats good :) any sooner and I've come home with bad news......

MandaHugNKiss · 01/05/2012 11:04

Oh pebs it sounds as if perhaps she reacted as if you had slighted her professional reputation - kinda 'well, why would you go to him, I'm just as 'good'?'

In that sense, I wouldn't worry too much about her dismissing him if you feel you would benefit from at least an initial consultation - your money, your perogative and frankly if she can't cope with the fact you're seeking a second opinion (which is what it is, in essence) then that's her issue and not yours.

I'm not entirely confident that your problem is something that can be diagnosed with an HSG (infact, it's more than likey the clotting issue that couldn't be managed properly this time because of the spotting, imho) - there isn't a fear, is there, that the actual structure of your uterus is causing the issue, or that your tubes are blocked (can't be, else the eggs wouldn't get fertilised/get to where they're supposed to be). Seems a bit of a dead end investigation to me, but, hey, I'm not the expert and I suppose it couldn't hurt...

So in conclusion, I'm dismissive of her being dismissive! And, er, yeah, go see Raj if for nothing else than for a consultant that will feel 'on side'. Meanwhile we're here to offer encouragement when things seem bleak. Hang in there

THoughts to our scanees today - will be checking for good news!

pebspop · 01/05/2012 10:29

hi everyone

I have been keeping a low profile recently so will have to read back later.

I went to see my nhs consultant yesterday but I wasn't very impressed with her. She said the genetic tests came back normal but is was female cells so they don't know if it was my cells or the babies - much easier when it comes back as male.

She scanned me and said I had a small polyp in my womb. This usually causes problems with getting pg rather than mc but I can have it removed if I want to. She was quite dimissive of Raj Rai as she said a patient went to see him before and he just came back with the same findings as she would have done. Hmm.

She said I can be reffered to the rmc at liverpool as it will be easier for me to get to and she thinks they are good. They will do a HSG which is a camera in the fanjo i think to see if anything else is going on in there. Maybe they can remove the polyp at the same time.

I am going to see Raj Rai soon anyway and will decide after that whether to go for the liverpool refferal.

Don't feel very confident at the moment Sad. I was hoping she would be more supportive about going to a private consultant and I would be able to try again after next week but now I feel like I should wait for the referral to liverpool and have the hsg and get the polyp removed. I don't really want to try again until I have had everything investigated.

ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!

JaffaSnaffle · 01/05/2012 09:58

Good luck Kirrin and Gpb!

StateofConfusion · 01/05/2012 09:26

leedy that's an impressive dream! And just made me snort juice Grin

leedy · 01/05/2012 09:20

I dreamt that my maternity hospital had adopted a policy of making all new mothers go out on a bracing cliffside walk with their newborn on delivery. They had a special door from the delivery room out onto the cliff and everything. Ahhh, pregnancy brain.

Bit less sick today, will attempt work, though am feeling the guilts about what a rubbish employee I'm being.

StateofConfusion · 01/05/2012 09:14

Good this morning, had a really good dream about having a gorgeous squishy baby girl which I never had good dreams during the pregnancy that ended in mmc, so its cheered me right up. 2months on friday Grin every day is a victory and all that.

Plus after a horrific bedtime of rapid return the dcs slept in two hours longer than usual.

How's everyone doing x

kirrinIsland · 01/05/2012 08:11

Tea at the Ritz midget ? Sounds lovely!

How are you doing this morning state ?

StateofConfusion · 30/04/2012 21:36

Just checking in, stupidly tearful and getting cramps whenever I'm stressed, need to relax, easier said than done.

Midgetm · 30/04/2012 21:34

Good luck with the two scans tomorrow - will be thinking of you both. Had afternoon tea at the ritz, may be sick on my PJ's.

squeakymac · 30/04/2012 21:24

Thanks sunshinesue - I think I'll look into acupuncture a bit more if only to make myself feel like I'm doing something proactive. Just realised that I'm away on a course in two weeks EXACTLY during when my next 'fertile window' woudl be (if I'm ovulating normally after MC that is) grrrr! Trying to persuade my DH to come with me but he has to work too so I think I'll have to give up on this happening in May...oh well have waited for it to be a good time from a work point of view for a long time so one more month won't hurt I guess!

To all the people with bumps - hope all goes well with various scans etc, am insanely jealous but hope to join your numbers soon!

MarthasHarbour · 30/04/2012 21:20

Grin that is DH's favourite MP scene!

mumtum i have a tentatively good feeling about you. As has been said before your scan was early so massive fingers crossed. Nausea and heartburn can only be a good thing! Smile

Well i am on the 2WW. Feeling less pressured about it as i announced to DH that i am going to stop being selfish (he is only 33) and will not insist that we stop TTC when i turn 40 in January. I have said all along that is my cut off point but TBH i couldnt care less today if i end up being an old mum then so be it. I wont love DC any less.
