Well, the good news is still one baby, heart beating.

But, I found today horrendous. The baby was asleep, and floating in exactly the same eerie position my DS was when they diagnosed the mmc. I thought the baby was dead again. It brought back all the horror. Eventually the baby moved a bit, and rolled over slightly and went back to sleep. Scared me witless.

The next thing I am metalling about are the measurements. I know I am 12+5 today. Last week, the baby measured 12+4 when they could only be 11+6. today they measured 13+1. Last week the sonographer wouldn't do NT because she said the machine wasn't accurate enough. But I am still having a huge flap that the baby's growth has slowed down, despite the fact that I am 3 days ahead of where I should be... DH is 6ft5 so expect a long one.

Wish I could calm down. Next scan is at 16 weeks.

GrandPoohBah · 02/05/2012 11:23

Good luck today Jaffa, and yay Kirrin!

Thanks everyone. I got the best nights sleep ever last night - I think I'd been stressed about it for a while. It was very exciting though, I've never been so far along that I've seen it move, so that's really what sticks in my head.

Only 3 weeks and 1 day until my NT scan - let the metalling commence, no more special scans!

MarthasHarbour · 02/05/2012 11:18

mumtum i am still rooting for you Smile

sunshinesue · 02/05/2012 10:21

hooray Kirrin!

Good luck today Jaffa

Sorry to hear you are having a worrying time marbles. My Aunty suffers from a mild form of epilepsy so I know a little about "absences". She had them from when she was about 2/3 and did grow out of them until a traumatic incident when she was 17 which seemed to kick start them again and still has them now. She has had a LOT of other health problems since birth though. When she does have a "turn" it's usually only us in the family who are used to it who even notice. To those who don't know it just looks like she's daydreaming or not paying attention for a couple of minutes. Also, treatment and understanding of this condition seem to have come on in leaps and bounds in the last 10-15 years. She was having 4/5 a day at one point, it's more like one every 18 months now. Good luck x

MumTumWanted · 02/05/2012 10:16

Midgetm · 02/05/2012 09:42

Can't help thinking I should wrap myself in Bloody cotton wool and eat cake till this bean is cooked. 14 plus 5 and still pregnant x

pebspop · 02/05/2012 09:41

matha high five!!!

i live further away from liverpool than you! i think there are very few rmc's in the country so liverpool will be your nearest one. unless there is a rmc in manchester that i don't know about??

i think my plan is a good one as i will either be pg or getting tests. either way it's moving forward.

thanks for the recomendation marbles - i wil make a note of it and try to make sure i get him.

Midgetm · 02/05/2012 09:39

marbles so sorry that you are having such a worrying tine with DD. hers hoping it's something that she grows out of PDQ and there is nothing sinister at the root of it. The brain is a complicated business. At least you are getting an immediate referral though and they are taking it seriously. Such a source of worry those pesky kids, even worse when they are in the outside.

kirrin and GPB* yeah yeah yeah. Cyber hugs and manly pats on the back.

pebs my specialist could do nothing for me and suggested there was probably no cause. Cue, St Mary's. Immediate linkage of all my issues (clots in placenta, pph, etc etc) and a fairly instant different and successful diagnosis. raj and the crew of specialists are amongst the est in the world so your co sultans is quite frankly misguided.

MarthasHarbour · 02/05/2012 09:35

woo hoo kirrin! Smile

marbles so sorry that your DD is going through that. I dont think DS's is to the same degree, it is certainly not that often and only every now and again he just wanders off to space, but i think that is just a 'thing' but i shall certainly keep an eye on things. OTOH it is reassuring that you have spotted it so quickly and the GP seems v supportive. Good luck and let us know how you get on Smile

can i just backtrack on this statement of last night:

bizarre as it may sound i really do miss those early newborn days, even though me and DH were grappling in the dark experience wise we enjoyed the whole 'learning curve' and just the whole 'us being responsible for DS'. I even coped pretty well with the culture shock of no sleep as i figured that this was the hardest most tiring work i have ever done, but by far the most rewarding.

FFS DS was awake screaming from 9.30pm to 2.30am last night Shock Angry he has NEVER done that Hmm he has a cough and it is bothering him but my god we had some arguments with him. He was demanding everything from 'medicine' (calpol) to 'breathing thing' (his asthma inhaler) we gave them to him as he needed them but tried everything else from cups of warm milk to vicks on the chest, olbas oil, chill out music....... we even tried controlled crying (he is nearly 3!!). Anyway he settled around 2.30 and me and DH had to be up at 6.30. DS decided to have a lie in Hmm and said to me when he woke up that he had a 'nice sleep' Angry Angry

kirrinIsland · 02/05/2012 08:37

Good luck today Jaffa

JaffaSnaffle · 02/05/2012 06:20

GPB and Kirrin, excellent news! So pleased for you both.

Marbles I am sorry you and your DD are going through all of this. It's good you are getting treated early. Will she be seen in a children's dept or a neurology one? I hope you are in children's dept. My DD had 2 bad accidents in Jan, and we ended up in A and E. Being treated in a child friendly place helped. Just try and prepare yourself emotionally for being a bit unnerved by it. And lots of sticker books helped, although maybe you won't have to deal with waiting with an appointment. Big hugs. X
pebs I second everything people have said on here. A consultant being so dismissive of her esteemed peers is unnerving and smacks of sour grapes. I think you are right to pursue the course of treatment you have researched and decided on. It is you that has to act on and live with treatment offered. I keep thinking about my lovely and now retired GP who said ' I cannot change what is going on here, but you can have some control of your treatment'. He understood the mental impact of mc, and the importance of me being able to stop feeling so helpless. And I think it is similar for you in a bigger sense .
Manda, I think denial is in the air for May babies. My RL pregnant friend is over 38 weeks, and still hasn't packed her hospital bag. My DD was born at 38+2! She has all the stuff, just won't pack it, apparently she can do that in labour...
Well, I am awake at silly o clock. It's my NT scan today. Scared of bad news. I have moved from the 'general background risk' danger zone, into my own on. And there is a Bad Cat that can get through the magnetic cat flap and woke me up bullying my own cat. And now sleep has left me.
Waves to all I have missed

StateofConfusion · 02/05/2012 00:57

Brilliant news kirrin Grin

kirrinIsland · 01/05/2012 22:59

Yay GBP great news!

My scan was fine too - everything where it should be! Got some lovely pictures too :) - didn't get much done at work though!

marbles I hope your DD is ok.

NoMoreMarbles · 01/05/2012 22:23

hi marthaSmile

re: DDs absences...i had noticed about 6 weeks ago that she was totally unresponsive a few times a day about 5-10 secs a time but noone else had noticed so i thought she was being an ignoramous... anywho about 2 weeks ago DHs nan noticed and commented on it ("its not normal, that") so i started to keep a closer eye on her. my sister then saw it happen and i pointed it out about twice an hour, every hour. Basically what happens is...she will be chatting away or playing or whatever, she will suddenly stop what she is doing, her eyes direct upwards and she just...isnt there. she also smacks her lips like she has just eaten and blinks her eyes very fast for 10-15 seconds (they seem to be getting more frequent and last a little longer). the reason i decided to go the GP was she had an absent episode that lasted a full 15 seconds and i couldnt rouse her at all. To be honest i panicked a bit but the GP was very reassuring and wants us to pop in to discuss everything on thursday and has referred her to a Neuro Paediatrician. from what i read via Dr Google it appears to be a relatively treatable form of epilepsy and kids can grow out of it. once she comes back she is entirely normal and has no idea anything untoward has happened. The thing that worries me is that it can be caused by sinister things like brain tumours etc... she will need EEG tests and MRI scans, blood tests and medication etc...

i read a write up about this type of seizure and aswell as being quite freaked out about the prospect i felt relieved that i wasnt being an overprotective mum...she fits every symptom it lists...here

MarthasHarbour · 01/05/2012 22:08

pebs and marbles i am in South Manchester and my nearest Hosp is Wythenshawe. If it comes to it i am wondering if i would be eligible to travel to Liverpool Womens, its not that far away. I guess with NHS you go where you are sent Hmm so they are unlikely to send me out of Manchester..

MarthasHarbour · 01/05/2012 22:05

pebs now that is positive thinking, i like it Smile you are making future plans and setting it all down on-MN in your mind. that deserves a high fiiiive!

manda i do love your style, you are practically dilating your bliddy cervix and only NOW do you think, oh where are me and LO going to sleep? what is he/she gonna wear?

Having said that i have only had the one and i truly know that it doesnt matter how organised you are beforehand, the LO's find their own way of fitting into your household routine, anyway DS was born in a heatwave and only wore nappies and a muslin cloth for the first two weeks of his life! Hmm Grin. I think the sofabed idea is a good one, also when you are doing the 3am breastfeeding you can watch some overnight tv trash, with the kitchen handy for the obligatory pint of water and-cake

bizarre as it may sound i really do miss those early newborn days, even though me and DH were grappling in the dark experience wise we enjoyed the whole 'learning curve' and just the whole 'us being responsible for DS'. I even coped pretty well with the culture shock of no sleep as i figured that this was the hardest most tiring work i have ever done, but by far the most rewarding.

marbles i am so sorry your new job is pooiness Angry however may i tentatively ask a bit more about your DDs absence seizures? See DS has always had this thing where he just gazes into space for about a minute and then he is '1, 2, 3 back in the room' we think it is just him being 'glaky' as i also tend to just wander my mind off every now and again. How was it discovered? Why did you mention it to your GP? Sorry for being nosey but i am genuinely curious.

NoMoreMarbles · 01/05/2012 22:05

thanks pebsSmile

your plan sounds like a good oneSmile i had all my investigations at Liverpool Womens and they are all very nice and efficient etc ask for Mr Farquharrson for your investigations etc he is very good Smile

pebspop · 01/05/2012 20:59

Hope everything is ok with your dd marbles.

I am thinking I wil just try agai after I see raj rai. I will ask for the refferal to Liverpool but if I get pg before the appointment comes through I will just try the aspirin etc and not bother with the investigations. If I don't get pg I will have the investigations. Sounds like a good plan to me!

NoMoreMarbles · 01/05/2012 19:30

hi ladiesSmile

congrats GPB on your scanSmile and good news from KIRRIN i hopeSmile

sorry about the absence ladies!

the new job is pooer than poo and has no internet i can use for any length of timeHmm also we have noticed some worrying episodes with DD! she appears to be having a number of absence seizures every day which we had thought were her ignoring usBlush the GP thinks it is absence epilepsy and has referred her for investigations [worriedsickemoticon] its very odd and worrying so i hope the referral is quick! this means the TTC has been re-shelved in favour of some excellent wait-and-see-sexWink

i have yet to catch up on the past weeks news so have read todays...anychance of a recap?

hope everyone is doing wellSmile

MandaHugNKiss · 01/05/2012 19:19

Wonderfully healthy diet for the day tits - really, no cake? Grin I polished off the last of the 'Jubilee Cake' I bought from Marks the other day. It wasn't great, but, y'know, it was cake. So it was Good. At a couple of days shy of 38 weeks I've put on 11kg so I reckon there is DEFINITELY room for a little indulgence to get me through the final stretch...

I think you're supposed to have a full bladder for the 12 weeks scan - I rememebr my letter told me to drink 500ml half an hour before attending. And, if you attend full but it's not necessary you can empty out but would cause a delay/have to rebook the other way around... so, on balance, full bladder it is!

MandaHugNKiss · 01/05/2012 19:11

Ahoy! and, indeed, avast! GPB! Lovely news, clearly a little pirate you have in there Wink

And, yes, hopefully no news is good news from kirren after what she said earlier.

Right, well, I have finally* swung into action. Pulled out the two massive bags of DS2's stuff that I intend this baby to make good use off (it's all literally as new considering how little time they spend in the early days stuff... especially if you give birth to a massive chunk of a child, almost toddler sized!) and have done The White Wash. Also ordered a sofa bed today. Which sounds like a weird thing, I know. But as mentioned, we co-sleep with DS2 (his cot is beside out bed but without the side on it, so like a little extension of the bed - however, he doesn't spend much^ of the night in it, usually, and often clambers over me to lay in the crook of Daddy's arm, or indeed, clambers over me to latch on (a lot of late, he's non-specific poorly again these last few days). I intend to co-sleep with this baby too... but don't think it will be safe with DS2 and his nocturnal shennanigans. DF made the suggestion that if we got a sofa bed, he could sleep in the living room with DS2. I ignored the idea as that would Be Thinking About The Baby Arriving... until yesterday. When I thought - actually, it's not a bad idea, but the other way around. We shouldn't disrupt DS2 - he should still go off to his bed. And it's gonna be me who is 'up' all hours with a constantly breastfeeding infant from preious experience, so it should be Baby and I on the sofa bed. FOr the interim, until we buy a house (that is maddeningly stalled at the moment, it seems. It's like a rubbish game of chess with all this offer, rejection, counter-offer business) and get moved, it'll work. I think.

I keep looking at my bump (which is MAHOOSIVE) and realising I have to get it out soon. Fuck!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 01/05/2012 19:10

Evening all Smile

Great news GPB Grin

I have had a pleasant day, long but ok, no sickness so I have filled up in fruit for breakfast, jacket potato with beans and cheese and salad for lunch and erm jacket sweet potato with roasted veg couscous for dinner.
Urine samples still coming back showing infection though so more antibiotics, they decided to inform me via text message Hmm what next? A fb wall post from my GP informing me I have thrush?!

Getting nervous about my 12 week scan next week, at least DP will be there for hand holding, does anyone know if I need a full bladder?

sunshinesue · 01/05/2012 18:56

I think kirrin said she would be going to work after the scan and without internet until late this eve if all was good, so fingers crossed no news is good news!
