I'm about an hour's train ride from London (plus tube time), so doable despite the fact I'm painfully shy irl. Would be happy to be facebooked coz I'm addicted to the devil's tool just PM me for my name/link/whatever? :)

I fancied the idea of a homebirth til i considered how I'd feel listening to the kid next door's xbox and wondering how he'd feel about hearing me screaming for possibly several hours I came to the conclusion I'd feel more uncomfortable here than in a strange hospital!

smegs I hope you're feeling a little bit better - cakes swears by those wrist band things, they might be worth a go until you can see a GP? Or you could always hit a walk in clinic if it's really bad, Nurse DH reckons they're not too busy if you go first thing in the morning.
InfestationOfLannisters :o I read book 1 and have bought 2&3; I'm taking a break while I read Hunger Games which I'm enjoying (now on book 2). I saw the film a few days ago and it's really good - Woody Harrelson made a great Haymitch, though I'm not sure about Lenny Kravitz as Cinna (he's a bit too saucy??). Can't wait to see GoT :)

I am sure. I just worry that some people plan a home birth and then feel they have 'failed' because complications happened. I don't want people to think that I think I did it 'better' than them because I 'managed' at home.

Oh, I know that if it was really necessary I would go into hospital, Bartlet. The problem is that due to an appalling midwife who whacked up my 'walking' epidural to almost totally incapacitated, despite my screaming protestations, I ended up with a cascade of interventions that even the hospital admit should never have happened. I had nightmares for months afterwards, and difficulty bonding with my DD for a while. Definitely contributed to my PND. Disclaimer: It was one midwife out of many wonderful ones, and she was disciplined afterwards. It was just bad luck I got her.

Luckily todays midwife was great. I think she understood that my mental health is pretty important to how I feel about this pregnancy/giving birth etc. I'm only 7 weeks pg though so I should probably focus on the scan on Monday, not worry about giving birth which is months away!

A brookers meet up could be done. It would be scary but it could be done. I am 45 minutes away from London by train, so it sounds like there are a good number of us nearby.

I had a homebirth with DS. I never actually imagined that he would be born at home. I had booked as a tactical decision so I would have a midwife with me for the bulk of it then would go into hospital once the pain got too much etc. Almost all the doctors I know have given birth needing huge amounts of analgesia, failed ventouse/forceps, then emergency section, so I imagined this is how it was going to happen for me too. Much to my surprise, it all went swimmingly and he was born in our bed, albeit after 22 hours but that is another story. That said, I am always very clear with friends that I am certainly not a homebirth at all costs sort of person, and that the important thing is getting the baby out with mother and baby alive and well at the end, however that happens. There are no prizes for not having an epidural/section etc.

Reading about Brookers wanting to see their GP re: fertility problems, I've found the link to the guidelines from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. I wonder if reading through these might help before you see your GPs:

Hope that Smegs is feeling a bit better. I've found with both of mine that the tablets really do take the edge off the nausea and vomiting.

Maybe I've been following that on twitter. I hope everything gets resolved quietly. I have some friends on TCR at the moment, but I think they're safely outside the cordon.

Smegs I'm on book 3 which is really annoying my DH. He is going to start the books as he can't bear that I know what's going to happen before him. He's a bit of a slow reader though so by the time he gets to book 3 it will probably have already been on tv!

They are great if you aren't fussed about who you see, but she is obviously in demand. And apparently she only works mornings too. I am sure it will all be worth it when I finally get to see her though.

I enjoyed the first few times Maybe but perhaps my age is catching up on me now! Really hope you get that appointment with gp, sounds like our drs in terms of getting an appointment, my DH got so fed up with it he changed gps!

No, I am not in London, I am in Essex. Are you in London? My friend is a midwife and her team specialise in home births, it all sounds so lovely, I would def like to give that a go if I ever get there.

Cupcakes I hope you get a referral soon. Sadly it's a bit of a lottery with GP's. I waited 3 weeks for an appointment with the GP I knew would take my concerns seriously, and she was great. DH had to see two, neither wanted to give him a SA for really dumb reasons, but the 2nd did because my GP had requested it. Do keep pushing, you need to be very strong I'm afraid.

Maybe are you in London? Your GP's system is terrible! Mine is a little like yours, but at least it's possible to book on the day or in advance. I've been very lucky recently though, think it's the 'P' word.

I've just had my midwife booking-in appointment. All fine, except I have to be assessed by a consultant before the Home Birth team will see me. DD's birth was rather traumatic, down to medical cascade of intervention, but even so I'm desperate to never set foot in a labour ward again .

Waiting for rain to stop so I can cycle home. Feel surprisingly ok, no nausea. Maybe that's the key, early morning bike ride = no ms!

Cups I am waiting for the fertility GP too. She is great. I went to see her when I had a random cycle, and she sent me for day 3 bloods straight away, and that was after 8 months of trying. She said come back in a few months if nothing had happened. So off I went a fdew weeks ago to a different GP who told me I had to wait till 16 months! So I am hoping nice GP will get the ball rolling.

And yes, DH is a sweetie
