I am metalling, again. Call it gushgate two. Whatever the hell fluids come out of me I really with they wouldn't pool and gush. Freaks me the fuck out. I hate fluids. What is it all anyway. Stupid drooling freaky fanjo.

Just add that to what I can only say are Braxton Hicks. HOW they can be BH I have not a clue but there they are. Big fat tightenings, whole abdomen contracts and goes taut, then release. Feels like they are squeezing the baby.

Anyone had BH at only 15 weeks so I can cross it off my mental to-do list? It might have been something to do with some, um, jolly morning fun

5 weeks & 3 days today and so far, i am still pregnant today.

Feeling very pregnant, but as you all know this means absolutley nothing.

im going to make an appointment for the GP this week, for pain killers (at the ready) and folic acid 5mgs.

Then next week, im going to trot along to EPAU for an early scan.
6 weeks should show up if there is a baby there or not...if i am still pregnant.

This is just slow torture quite frankly. you would think that i would be well used to it all by now.

marthas sorry you're not feeling well (secretly hopes it's the 'bfp cold' several of us on here have had ) I had a reasonably early night and an ok sleep and have concluded I was mainly just overtired with a dose of pregnant stuffy nose making me feel like I was coming down with something

boris I find it so frustrating that the tests available around the country on the NHS vary so widely! So glad you have people here who's brains you can pick on it all though!

boris I was tested by consultant at the Whittington for everything and they found nothing. Referred to st Mary's after many losses and the clotting result came back showing I have an issue. I self medicated with my DD 75mg of aspirin and carried to term before my referral to st Mary's. I am now on 150mg under prof regan and so far so good. I just took aspirin anyway though with DD and for me I am convinced it is what made the difference. I stopped taking it though and went on to have issues with placenta and my D was low birth weight. Hope that makes sense but in a rush at work. Getting the test is well worth it.

Pebs will talk to DH about it tonight the instance he gets through the front door and hopefully give them a ring tomorrow. Will let you know what they say. Am going to shut up now for a bit as i feel i've derailed the thread slightly to my own mad obsession....

i live in the north west but wouldn't mind a day out in london to get an extra test that i can't have up here.

i am not sure how much more testing my consultant could have done on me. i seem to have had the full range thats available on the nhs at my hospital. i suppose they are thinking there must be something wrong to give me a treatment plan - they just can't find it on a test.

i wonder if i have a different treatment plan to you far as my mc's have been at later dates so implantation seems to be ok for me. i have got past my dating/nt scan twice now.

I would call them directly if I were you, I can't find the referral criteria online ( i have been looking for you!) but I remember reading they will see you after one late loss, perhaps try calling and seeing what they say.

If they say yes i would go back to the consultant and insist he refers you, really hold your ground. The issue with the TEG is also HOW they do it apparently (they do something differently at st marys, canlt remember what they do) and the reference ranges are different i.e. they might say on criteria X anything under 5 is a problem for example whereas nationwide the reference range might say anything under 20 is ok (this is just an example)

I am pretty sure you will need the consultation to take your history and also to interpret the results.

Sorry to to hear the consultant is being difficult, why oh why they don;t all just do the sames tests as st marys I don;t know!!!

far it was what they count as a late loss, i think (20 weeks), but it was the consultant who i asked for a st mary's referral who said no, so don't think there is much wriggle room there....
I also asked him outright for a TEG test yesterday as i'd read about it on these threads (doctors must hate the internet) but he said that was a recurrent miscarriage only test so no need for me to have it- i can't understand the logic of this- surely what a mc and a erpc costs the nhs is massively more than an extra blood test.
I'm wondering if i could just ring st marys up and ask if i can have just the TEG test privately or if i have to have the initial consultation etc also.

why* I am right in thinking you had a late loss? In which case they will see you after 'just' one, your GP is talking squit (as lots are prone to do I am learning)

I did all the tests through them and that, along with consultant fee for 2 meetings was £1000 (!!!)

You could however just ask for the clotting test (TEG) which I think was £149 although you will need to do it twice if the first time you do it you are not pregnant as some women only develop problems once pregnant.

There are lots of different clotting problems, some solved by aspirin, others heparin. I am not on aspirin for example. However, in my case, I was told it was vital I started heparin immediately as outcomes improve if it is started before 6 weeks (better implantation) which is obviously different to the advice pebs and others have received.

Push to get referred on the NHS though, it may be that you need a consultant referral versus a GP. Good luck!

pebs, still thinking of you - I can see how it must be some kind of relief to know that the twins-in-same-sac thing is just a very rare "one of those things" things, but still must be tough.

I am 12 DPO and having the usual "is it PMS or pregnancy" symptom fun (ie nearly falling asleep in front of the telly at 10pm), but am determined not to test til Thursday at the earliest. makes resolute face

It seems really scary that your clotting tests came back negative when there were blood clots in your placenta... something must have caused the clotting, surely? it just seems weird to me that they didn't think 'we have to keep going until we find the right test' rather than just stopping. Maybe i'm expecting too much, i don't know. This is my fear though, that the standard tests seem a bit rubbish, and its hard to get the others.

Thanks far, I am indeed in London. I asked the consultant if i could go to st mary's yesterday and he said absolutely not based on one miscarriage. Maybe if his tests don't find anything i could try again? I'm definitely not able to fund private referral there (assuming it costs hundreds of pounds, if its not too rude would appreciate a rough estimate of what it cost), but probably completely beyond our means. I might be able to scrape together enough to pay for some private blood tests (not that i know about how to get them!), particuarly the one you mention. I will google madly impaired fibrogenic response now.

My panic is becuase the consultant seems pretty sure in himself that it is a clotting issue (he told me to start taking aspirin if i get a bpf before my next apointment with him and to ring his office up and they would get me in to see him the same day as my bfp, so clearly he thinks i'm going to need some kind of help). I just can't stand the thought of using another pregnancy to check clotting issues out , if that isn't too mad a way of thinking about it.

i had a pm which showed the placenta had lots of blood clots in it. my blood tests came back normal so i do not appear to have a clotting disorder. i had already had my blood tests and karyotyping tests done and was given all the results at the same time as my pm results. i asked for a referall to the miscarriage clinic in liverpool but my consultant said they wouldn't do any more tests than she had done. she used to work there so she seemed to know about it. i might ask to go there this time anyway.

i have heard about the clotting tests at st marys but i don't think you can have that test done anywhere else.

my consultant gave me 5mg of folic acid to take before conception and 75mg asprin from bfp. i was also supposed to be having heparin injections as well but i had spotting in this pg so i couldn;t start it.

i don't think this mc i am currently having is going to be related to the clotting as it is much earlier than my previous ones and has the added complication of being twins in the same pregnancy sac which is really rare.

i will be getting investigations done though to find out what has happened.

why are you based in London or are you willing to travel? You can ask to be referred to St mary's in Paddington or see them privately. They are the best for these sorts of issues and they will see you on the NHS after one late loss or 3 early losses.

I went privately to St Marys after 2 early MCs (they were both before 6 weeks but I just had a feeling something was wrong) They do a very specific test there which I don;t think is done anywhere else. Voila - impaired fibrogenic response (which is often linked to PCOS which I also have) discovered and treatment of heparin from BFP prescribed.
They also repeat this test when pregnant because some women can test normal and only develop a clotting problem in pregnancy.

I am sorry you are going through this, it really is bad they did not test the placenta after everything you and the doctors went through to get it to them.

hello everyone

i am still waiting for my scan on thursday. i decided to stay off work this week, i thought it was best to spend some time on my own while dh is at work.

i am still getting pg symptoms which is really frustrating. i can't keep my eyes open after 9pm. i feel this is a good thing as otherwise i might be up all night worrying. my boobs are still sore and my belly is really bloated. it is so annoying to be getting these signs. if i hadn't been for my early scans i would have been still thinking i was pg and wouldn't have found out until the 12 week scan. these symptoms are giving me a tiny bit of hope that something will be ok on thursday and there might be a heartbeat but it really doesn't look good.

i have decided i will be going for the erpc. i am scared of the ga but it is the same fear i seem to have of flying - that i will not wake up/the plane will crash and i will die. it's a bit irrational as i have no underlying health problems and should be ok. i will only be under for a short time, it only takes about 5/10 mins to do the erpc.

when would i expect af to come back? last time after my late mc it took 12 long weeks. they were the longest weeks of my life! i am sure it came back about 6-7 weeks after my last erpc.

i think i will get back into my charting during wtf cycle and see if i can get pg before af comes back at all. dh is on board for trying straight away.

tits I also just lurk on the November thread, I can't take the unbridled optimism and people buying clothes and buggies (!!!) at 5 weeks. Also statistically, a few people on that thread will miscarry and I can't help having morbid thoughts about it so I think its best I stay away!

I have also been told 3 weeks between scans. My consultant said that 8/9 weeks is a very important milestone and so its best to wait until you are compfrtably over 8 weeks for another scan. His view is there is that there should always be a reason for a scan (to check location, then viability) to make sure the risks don;t outweigh the reward. Having said that he did say if I wanted reassurance that would be enough for him to agree it but on balance I am trying to hold out!!

I have been to the GP and made it official, they were rubbish.
No mat B form, no forms of any kind, foudn my history very hard to understand and told me my first midwife appoitment would be AFTER the scan at 16-18 weeks. Nightmare. So I have self-referred to the hospital and will follopw up in a few days, i really need to change GPs, thank goodness I knew it was rubbish.
