CD 1 today and my last cycle was 34 days which means I'm due to test 6th April.

Anyone fancy joining me?

Welcome Iheart!

Oooh, Friday 13th..spooooooky Grin

Iheartcats87 · 12/03/2012 09:13

Hello, can I join?

I am also testing in April. I'm currently on day 5 and will be testing around April 13th! Friday 13th! I have been off the pill since November but not really been trying, just letting nature work, this will be my first month properly trying and I am charting temps and using ov sticks.....fingers crossed for April BFPs all round! :D

winkle2 · 11/03/2012 21:49

I haven't got time for morning bonking either!!

OP posts:
RightUpMyRue · 11/03/2012 13:52

I don't know about morning bonking. Personally I don't have the time to DTD and then lie still for half an hour to allow the most amount of swimmers to get to the right place so it really wouldn't work for me, possibly at the weekend but I also have a DD who seems to have some sort of sixth sense about daytime bonking and will always interupt. Seeing as she's almost 10 and knows how babies are made it's not really appropriate so it's got to be in the evening, I hope it makes no difference!

I don't see why the morning would make any difference anyway? It's all about catching the egg isn't it? Which is why it's important to try and get a good amount of healthy sperm swimming around your system before you ovulate so they have a chance to fertilise the egg before it degrades. Does ovulation only happen in the morning? I don't think it does, I think it can be any time.

Cookiesandcream06 · 11/03/2012 13:15

Thanks right I think I may get myself tracking more closely. I did dtd at the right times then, as had my surge and +ve OPK. think I might try more frequently this month Wink sure the Mr won't mind!

I read somewhere (I think) that it's best to DTD in the morning? Is this correct?! As I already have a DD who runs in at 6 am every morning so don't know if this is possible?!

As soon as I've posted I am going to order me a fancy thermo, thanks!

RightUpMyRue · 11/03/2012 13:01

Generally speaking EWCM is a good indicator that OV is about to happen. If you've no reason to suspect anything is up with your cycle (i.e PCOS) then you can assume that EWCM, a +ve OPK means you're going to OV within the next 12-36 hours so you'd better get SWI!

Keeping a track on your cycles using a website like MyMonthlyCycles helps to predict when this is going to happen and to try and see some sort of pattern, like what cycle days you normally OV on and how long your luteal phase is. Although, websites like that work on numbers and not what's actually going on in your body so don't follow them to the line, best to look for clues your body is giving you. EWCM being the best of them and temp charting to back it up.

Possom, depends how long your cycle normally is?

Walnut8 · 11/03/2012 12:59

possum I'm trying them this month too. I have a 29 day cycle and according to my instructions, it says to start at cd11.

Very interesting info thanks right

backwardpossom · 11/03/2012 11:41

I'm trying OPKs this month - going to start peeing on them cd9 - would that be about right?

Cookiesandcream06 · 11/03/2012 10:21

Ah thank you rightup you are full of wisdom. That's what I thought about the LH surge, and I have a cyst on one of my ovaries, (I have no idea if this affects anything) but I am looking for that conclusive proof that I've ovulated (for peace of mind more than anything!)
Have been monitoring CM and got the EWCM but again that doesn't confirm you have actually Ov-ed does it?

Think I may have to be purchasing a new thermometer then, thank you so much Smile just didn't want to waste my money if it wasn't necessary.

I want to know my cycle as well as some people on here seem to know theirs, to know my own body as much as TTC

RightUpMyRue · 11/03/2012 10:01

Thank you both Smile

Cookies, OPKs will detect your LH surge so will tell you your body is attempting to release an egg. Chating your temp will show a temp change and therefore tell you when you have ovulated (and can stop SWI and give your sore bits a rest!).

Apparently they are different. From Baby Hopes website:

"A basal thermometer is different from a regular fever thermometer which measures temperatures in degrees. A basal thermometer measures temperatures by 10th?s of a degree whereas most fever thermometers measure in two-tenth degree increments.
A basal thermometer is more reliable and accurate than a simple glass thermometer since glass thermometers are only accurate to .2 degrees Fahrenheit. You really need it to be accurate to .1 degrees Fahrenheit.
Another advantage of the digital basal thermometer over a fever measuring body thermometer is speed. The basal body digital thermometer is more accurate than a fever based thermometer, and it only takes 30-60 seconds. In addition, a digital basal thermometer is harder to break and remembers the temperature for you if you don?t want to chart it immediately."

I tried charting my temp but that was months ago and I don't think I gave it the effort it needs. I really should try again.

Welcome walnut Smile

Walnut8 · 11/03/2012 08:40

Hi everyone
Can I join? AF due 3 April, cycle 3.
I hope its a lucky month for everyone.
Sorry to hear about the mc right

Cookiesandcream06 · 11/03/2012 08:33

Oh rightupmyrue that's horrible, you poor poor thing, you're doing so well to be so strong, I wish you all the luck this month.

Just a question ladies.. I was very unsure when I ov last month, I detected my surge using OPKs, but should I be temping too? And can you use any old thermometer or do you buy a particular one? Am I being ridiculously blonde?!

RightUpMyRue · 10/03/2012 20:57

Thank you winkle. Whilst it was horrible and painful at least I got pregnant. We'd been trying for almost a year with no sniff of a BFP so getting one at all at least tells us it can happen so it will again.

winkle2 · 10/03/2012 20:47

sorry to hear about your mc rightupmyrue

Can I join?

I'm due to test around the 5th April. CD 8 today, we're on cycle no. 13 (FFS!), TTC no.2, managed to get PG over xmas but miscarried in the new year. We've decided if it doesn't happen this cycle we'll seek some help so I really need it to work this time!

winkle2 · 10/03/2012 20:43

Hello all,

I'm on CD8. SWI starts Monday and going for EOD method!

OP posts:
Cookiesandcream06 · 10/03/2012 20:40

Hello! I'm on number 2 also, CD4. I've not had very reliable cycles since my mirena but I'm taking lots of vitamin/hormone balancing tabs to stable things and seems to be settling down now (thank goodness!)

It feels like ages until even ov let alone anything else.. Anyone else as impatient as me?!

backwardpossom · 10/03/2012 20:33

Yes, hello. I'm on CD3. This will be cycle 3. TTC #2 Think I'd be looking to test around April 5th although I'm not sure about cycle length anymore!

Cookiesandcream06 · 10/03/2012 20:27

I'm due either 5th or 6th April I think so I'll join you! Seems a million years away right now, could deff do with company along the crazy journey! Smile

AngelFairy · 10/03/2012 19:13

I'll join you...
We're going to start ICSI in April if we haven't caught naturally, so your thread may just be a last ditch attempt at relying on Mother Nature's kind side ;)
Currently on CD23, so I have AF due next week, but hoping she stays away x
