Absolutely bonkers POAS behaviour... but am I?

I would really appreciate some advice here. I am cringing at how loopy this will sound and must apologise in advance!

I've been TTC for year. I have PCOS and am taking metformin for it at the moment but my cycles are all over the place (55+ days).

I cracked and did a test this morning. I'd promised DH that I wouldn't test this month as it upsets me... so I kind of smuggled it out of the bathroom and had a quick look before shoving it into the kitchen bin. It was negative. But I had a nagging feeling all day, so when I got home I tool it out and had another look... positive!

Do you think I'm preggers... or has it just malfunctioned after 12 hours in a bin? Maybe it is the bin that is expecting a happy event? I won't be able to get another test until tomorrow morning.

Poor bin. So young. It didn't understand...

Plaguegroup · 03/03/2012 20:03

I'm sorry cyster, it's rubbish when the tests keep getting the wrong answer and periods are spectacularly rubbish, at least this one is a good sign in a way.

I hope you've been throwing lots of empty folic acid packets in the bin (assuming bin nutrition works on rubbish)! Smile

Northey I hadn't avoided peeing beforehand today as I just couldn't hang on. I used FMU with the one yesterday that led to the bin diving incident.

I'll try to wait a few days and then try again in the morning if AF hasn't shown up. Somehow, I don't think that second FR is going to stay in the draw for long.

I will certainly be having words with my bin. Who could be the father? We have had the builders in recently...

I suppose we could keep the recycling in the bin baby.

I think you should also have a serious talk with your bin about immoral behaviour. Who is the father? And how do they intend to provide for the bin baby?

Northey · 03/03/2012 12:48

Had you avoided peeing beforehand? If not, it might be worth trying again with FMU.

I took a (massive) detour on the way to the gym this morning and picked myself up a pair of nice shiny First Responses. I did one after the gym and, sadly, it was a BFN. Boo hiss.

I wasn't at all surprised as I woke up feeling like my period might be just around the corner. On a brighter note, if AF does put in an appearance in the next few days that would mean I'd had a record-breakingly-for-me almost nearly normal cycle!

I better go and see if the bin would like a nice cup of peppermint tea...

I bought the cheap and cheerful tests but also spent far too much on them altogether Blush. I'm fairly certain they're designed to be a bit crap and ambiguous so you buy more of them.

Maybe give it a few days?

izzybizzybuzzybees · 02/03/2012 23:23

Definately test again...try get a first response. I had tried boots today and they had sold out so I went to superdrug and they had the twin packs buy one get one free!

minceorotherwise · 02/03/2012 23:17

Cyster, I'm afraid for the sake of plague and myself, you now have test tomorrow, just in case

Pipbin · 02/03/2012 23:14

A pregnant bin? Grin

cystersledge · 02/03/2012 23:06

Well I have been feeling queasy and had a very slight headache for the last few days... tenuous, I know. I probably just need new glasses.

Also, the metformin should have started to help matters along by this month so I was feeling more hopeful than I have for a while in spite of my best efforts not to think about it!

I know plague. Crikey, I was rubbish at this myself (wasted hundreds on tests!) and now I am encouraging the OP
But, ever hopeful and love a happy ending

Plaguegroup · 02/03/2012 22:40

I really want to be wrong now! Is the nagging feeling based on anything else or just a feeling?

minceorotherwise · 02/03/2012 21:52

Oh Izzy, that brought a little tear to my eye. (mind I have had a small glass of wine...)

cystersledge · 02/03/2012 21:51

Nope, no more tests in the house. I'll try to do the sensible thing, believe the negative and give testing a rest for this month!

The bit about the bin expecting a happy event really made me giggle, so much so I had to read it out to my dp!!!! I wish you lots of luck!!!! Grin

Huge congratulations Izzy! So very exciting, you must be over the moon. I love that you have taken pictures of the test!

i had left the test in the loo 'developing' at the allotted time he brought it through and said "well that was a waste of time". I said oh well the he said you wanna see and there were the two lines!!

minceorotherwise · 02/03/2012 21:39

Izzy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations!!!! What did DH say?

Cyster, any tests left ?!

ScarlettInSpace · 02/03/2012 21:36

Gah stupid iPod!

I love your preggers bin Grin that'll teach you not to keep it in at night, it probably wants a house of its own lol

ScarlettInSpace · 02/03/2012 21:34

I love your preggers bin [grin[

izzybizzybuzzybees · 02/03/2012 21:33

You never know cyster i just took this test! after my lines that appeared after the limit.

cystersledge · 02/03/2012 21:22

Thank you very much for your wisdom, Betty. I am absolutely certain that it was an evap line. Everyone on here has been very kind about my foolishness and I really appreciate it.

I think I'll stick to the trusry FR in future... Boots had completely sold out of them when I bought the wretched thing that had me foraging in the bin tonight (although it would be unfair of me to blame the poor test).

Good luck though Betty... may your draw be full of positives very soon!

OP posts:
BettyPerske · 02/03/2012 21:10

Hmm...could be an evap then if it was just a very thin line. Dark is generally good but if it's the blue dye jobbies they are more prone to catching the blue and thus having some colour iyswim, the pinkies tend to be greyish for an evap.

shoves drawer full of old dissected, scrutinized and definitely negative tests as closed as it will go

If it was the same width as the horizontal line then I'd be more hopeful - but still, I'd test again if you can stand it, in a day or two x

Good luck Smile

cystersledge · 02/03/2012 20:56

Betty it was a Boots own brand one which had two round windows; a positive would be a vertical line in the first window and both vertical and horizontal lines in the second window (froming a cross). I've only ever used First Response before, which is partly why I felt the need for a second look.

The line was thin, dark and no doubt caused by a heady concoction of silliness and bin juice.
