well time for me to get the ovulation tests out again, although I always seem to get a positive around d12, beginning to wonder if I am actually ovulating, still never sure whether its best to do deed day before, day off etc, Wondering if worth getting a cbfm does that actually confrim ovulation? 43, time running out but more positive since I went on here last week, hopeful gum re the 47 years old getting pregnant, my theory we have been conditioned to think that 40's is old for having a baby but years ago before the pill etc think it probably wasn't such a big deal and hearing things like that makes me feel better.

blackcatsdancing · 22/04/2012 09:31

that is spooky jollster

Maisie,it wouldn't hurt to start temping, despite missing the shift -it'll be like a practice run,and you'll also see when your temp drops(or doesn't) for AF.

I was talking to a friend yesterday - she recently had an ovarian cyst and was talking to her doctor about having her marina coil removed. He suggested she keep it in until she's 47.Which got us talking about pregnancy in the over 40's.She told me that when she was 28,her friend (also 28) became a big sister! Her mother was in her late 40's (possibly even 50) and didn't find out til she was 6 months pregnant because she thought it was menopause. There was also another woman that she knew who had a baby at 47. So, that's good news.

I know not everyone in their mid to late 40's is fertile, but not everyone is pin-pointing ovulation and ttc either...well that's my theory.I still haven't totally given up the idea that my DS (3years old) will have a younger playmate in the near future - in 2013 hopefully.

Waving to Jolls and Hippy. It is great having loads of new faces (WELCOME!) on the thread, but nice to see some familiar faces, especially when so many have graduated and aren't around as much anymore...I kind of feel like I'm a failure for not moving on - but I know that's irrational and silly, and I'm still in with a chance.

I hope everyone's pregnancies are going well(Fireflies are you close to term?) and that the latest LO's are thriving and giving their mums plenty of sleep.

that's interesting the agora is my local clinic- walkable in fact!

MaisieM · 21/04/2012 21:24

Thanks everyone.

Beangrower - yes you're right, better to do the temping on the next cycle of course. Can you tell I'm still getting my head around all this TTC malarkey?!

beangrower · 21/04/2012 21:21

Thanks Jollster! Keep up the good vibes Lucky. xxx

randomimposter · 21/04/2012 21:12

beangrower I went here for my recurrent MC tests, and I know several women who have had successful pregnancies through the clinic.

I found them professional and pleasant to deal with (except for some ditsiness with some invoicing)

That's great news Masie, and we all like great news!
My Duo Fertility Monitor has arrived today, it looks straightforward to use but I suddenly had a rush of nerves about trying again. I have only just had the ERPC but with the clock ticking I am reticent to wait too long.

Hope everyone else is doing ok with wherever you are in your journey
x

beangrower · 21/04/2012 20:40

Hi Maisie - have fun. Will it be worth starting temping this cycle? You will have probably missed the temp shift if you are about to ov today/tomorrow...

Wondering if anyone here has a London/Southeast fertility clinic to recommend? Much appreciated.

10000fireflies · 21/04/2012 20:33

Yay Masie. Happy SWI!!

MaisieM · 21/04/2012 19:23

I think just posting on this thread has had a positive result. I'm on my third pack of the CB digital thingies and on day 22 have got a smiley face! Hopefully my thermometer will arrive on Monday so I'll be able to start tempting then too.

hippychick66 · 20/04/2012 14:55

Just really quickly wanted to say - i recommend fertility friend website. v. good. i was getting lots of positives on OPKs (like one a day for 7 days) and also having really long cycles and had no clue what was going on and assumed I was not oving. After Agnus castus and DHEA My cycle has settled down again and i find FF is brilliant. Still do the OPks by all means but Ff really helps you to get a better idea of if you are indeed ov'ing. Sorry to post and run.

love to all XXXXX ps. welcome newbies Smile

luckyagain · 19/04/2012 17:33

MiaAlexandrasMum
thanks for the warm welcome and many congratulations on your BFP. Anxiety is totally and utterly understandable and I pray that all goes well for you
x

MaisieM · 19/04/2012 08:05

Wow, thank you so much everyone for the really quick replies. I've just ordered a thermometer from Amazon and am going to phone the GP to make an appointment for early next week (if they have any that is!).

The fertility site looks really good so will be having a good read this pm. I'm also intending to read the whole of this thread in an attempt to catch up with all your histories!

hairytale · 19/04/2012 07:57

Maisie if I were in your circumstances, I'd see the go now.

We went after six months off the pill and were given all of the basic fertility tests. It was reassuring to know my body was doing its thing. Had it not been, I'd have wanted to know at the earliest opportunity as we were on limited time.

Good luck.

homeaway · 19/04/2012 07:54

Mia's mum that is fantastic news I am so happy for you . I totally understand about being nervous ,all you can actively do is eat as heathly as you can. I so hope that you have a sticky bean. Take care , x

kiwibabe · 18/04/2012 21:12

Hi just want to say only joined you all yesterday and already feeling better with your comments, I'm 43 but maybe not too late, think it was just getting to me all the friends (with kids) saying they were too old was making me feel like I was imagining the impossible. We are still just going to try natural route as financial issues, also been very stressed hubby job loss etc but feeling positive now and thats a big help in itself. Looked up the duo fertility but online test said weren't sure if it was suitable for me?? So will do the ov tests and try to not obsess with it. Welcome to Lucky and Maisie as well, as I said one day on here and I already feel supported.
Hairy thankyou for your comments so pleased for you

MiaAlexandrasmummy · 18/04/2012 20:53

homeaway yes, I did, but feeling very nervous...

Correction on my last post - I tested with an OPK 3 times a day before the temp rise, once I knew the approximate day I should be ovulating based on previous charts. Sorry for the confusion - the temp rise is key indicator that ovulation has occurred.

homeaway · 18/04/2012 20:44

Mia's mum did I read that correctly that you got a bfp?

Bean the temp rise is after ovulation, you might get a dip just before if you are lucky.

beangrower · 18/04/2012 20:38

Blackcats - thanks for being so helpful. I think the first peak on CBFM might be the best day after all. As far as I can tell from CBFM and monitoring CM this is the day before ov'. I agree that it would be terrible to miss the egg! We did try SWI both peak days this month but I can report (sorry TMI alert) that the second attempt was a lot less impressive in terms of his - ahem - 'product' than the first ifykwim. I think the key with low motility is to have a good rest before SWI to build up a good reserve of swimmers. But I'm also hoping that the vits (male pro-conception) will have taken effect, plus regular acupuncture... It's a case of being patient I think. I've had most tests done but not tubal patency. I'm working up to this but not getting much joy from NHS. I'm hoping that because I had a child (rather shockingly easily) 2/3 years ago that there shouldn't be too much amiss with the plumbing though I'd appreciate a good flush out if I can get it. In the long term I'm keeping ICSI there in an attempt to reassure myself that we have a plan B. I will have to work hard on DP to go for it, even though I'll be spending my savings. To my shame I promised to avoid the assisted conception route but am having a change of heart. Can't help it. Sad No offence intended to those who've had ICSI/IVF etc ; I totally respect the choice but always hoped that we would be able to have 2DC naturally...

Lucky interesting that your DH was doing too much exercise. Mine isn't in danger of that Wink though he is quite naturally fit. I'm feeling very positive for you that you'll get there naturally this time!

Can you all clarify - do you get the temp rise just before ov or just after?

xxx

MiaAlexandrasmummy · 18/04/2012 20:07

Hello lucky and maisie, this is a good place to be for advice and encouragement.

Lucky I am so sorry about your recent heartbreak.

I shall keep my fingers crossed for you both. I also recommend using a combination of Fertility Friend, a basal body thermometer, and using OPKs to help you discover what might or might not be happening inside you. I have learnt a huge amount about my cycle over the past few months. As I became more familiar with my cycle, I actually started testing with OPKs 3 times a day once I had a temp increase (bit extreme, especially as it needs you to wait for 4 hours of urine build-up(!!) but at least I was able to pinpoint pretty much exactly when I was about to ovulate and maximise that swi window. I also made my DH take Wellman Conception, but only recently, and he has also been getting himself fit (at last, he was getting v chubby cuddly!) and watching his weight and reducing alcohol. I have also been getting fit, and I have to hope that all of this helped... got a BFP two weeks ago.

luckyagain · 18/04/2012 18:32

Italian - thanks for the welcome and kind wishes x
Beangrower - my DH drank regularly and he has cut down, he was also doing endurance training for an Ironman (I know, quite extreme with the drinking too) and as this was completed in September 2011 I think the cut back in training has had a big impact. He has also been taking the Wellman Conception. You're right, things change a lot so it will be interesting to see what the re-test shows for your DH. Does he take a supplement with Zinc?
We never really got advice on how best to conceive with the first SA as we were commited to ICSI by then and I feel our efforts to conceive naturally were a bit half hearted and we had sort of given up a little, lost the faith. It's back now though!

Maisie hi and I empathise with the BFP's amongst friends....it can be challenging to keep your poise and an open heart when in truth you just want it to be you. It may be worth while having some further analysis on the ovulation front and if your GP is not too clued up on fertility testing perhaps contact a fertility clinic for some ovulation diagnostics. As the others have said, monitoring your temperature/charting will give you clearer answers too. A very good friend of mine (currently 21 weeks pregnant) started to use the clear blue fertility monitor and was shocked to find she was ovulating around day 23 of a 30-35 day cycle. She was pregnant within 3 months having previously thought she wasn't ovulating. Good luck x
