apologies for the fluff aspect of this thread - I am exceedingly aware having a baby at all is the important thing.

however - I have a 14 month DS and we are thinking of having one more baby (if we can). I am going to be 38 in a few months time so do not think I have the luxury of waiting as I might do if I were in my 20s.

My son was born in November and I would like to avoid having children with B-days in the same month - I want to avoid Christmas (friend born on Xmas day and tells me often how she hates it) and we must at all costs avoid April as about 90% of my family already has birthdays that month!

Are there months/time of the year thats preferable? I like the sound of September.

DD1 is March born. I wanted a September or October born for birthday spacing and school year reasons. As it turns out, I didn't get pregnant for 7 months, so DD2's due date is six days prior to DD1's birthday. And a month before DD1 is due to start preschool(when her funding kicks in). So all very inconvenient, but I'd much rather be pregnant than not.

My two are december and May babies.I didn't think about what month they were going to be born in at all but definitely nicer having a baby in May as it was lovely and warm so lots of long walks with the pushchair. In December it was layers inside heating full blast keeping baby warm.

pippilongsmurfing · 11/02/2012 09:53

I wouldn't care where/when he/she was born, just as long as they were born and healthy

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 10/02/2012 20:24

See I wouldn't chose May/June cos they'd have to do exams on their birthday! I love having a summer birthday, I'm mid August but the disadvantage is no-one is around for your party! I think there's pros and cons to any month.

HSMM · 10/02/2012 19:51

I loved my September birthdays and being one of the oldest in my school year. DD loves her sunny July birthdays.

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 10/02/2012 19:47

If I could pick and choose itd be may / june.

However, my kids were born at Christmas and in September. Both are fine.

Fraktal · 10/02/2012 19:41

Not Sept-Dec as it makes schooling difficult but we do have the 'luxury' of time to aim for the other 8 months!

PieMistress · 10/02/2012 19:34

You know what, when we started TTC the thought of what month he/she would be born in didn't even cross my mind at all!!! Lo and behold DS was born on Christmas Day! I was so darn happy to be pregnant though I didn't care he was due on 20th Dec and might be late!

Second time around I fell pregnant they would have been due on 23rd Dec but I sadly miscarried and am now due in June. I really didn't give it any thought on any of the times we've been TTC though as to when he/she might be due!

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 10/02/2012 18:30

Grin at ^
When we started ttc, yes. Particularly not Chrirstmas. After two years of ttc, I just want a baby. The sooner the better.

ArielNonBio · 10/02/2012 15:46

Any month between....ooh....January and December would suit me fine Grin

tabulahrasa · 10/02/2012 15:21

My DS was always happy with May, till this year...he's just got his exam timetable through and he'll spend his 16th birthday sitting his maths exams.

blondiep14 · 10/02/2012 15:13

DS's are 4 weeks apart. Early Jan and Feb.
I guess when they are older we might do joint parties or outings in the middle which will be nice.
We prefered Winter babies as DH is (a little) quieter work-wise in the Winter. If we had a baby between June and August DH wouldn't be around so much to help out.
Saying that DC3 is due end of September!

Greenshadow · 10/02/2012 15:07

No month is perfect.
Summer children make parties so much easier, but then would you avoid school holidays so friends aren't all away?
Some people also don't feel their summer children are ready to start school at just turned 4.
May/June sounds lovely, but don't forget exams at school and university.
Easter is quite a nice time.
Early Autumn also nice, but not too near start of school year for reasons stated above.
Avoid any time within a month either side of Christmas.
We've had winter parties snowed off before.
Would also avoid being too close to other DC birthdays.

Basically, it just isn't worth worrying over!

Gavi · 10/02/2012 15:04

mine are feb/march babies, which is nice because instead of January blues, we start party planning straight after xmas Smile

TheCuntwormUnderfoot · 10/02/2012 15:02

Not January! Such a miserable time of year for a birthday.

Sorry DD.

HeidiHole · 10/02/2012 14:55

I think May is the best month. Right before summer but not the youngest in the year

:)

mrsmellow · 10/02/2012 14:53

I think Christmas is the only time that isn't ideal, my DSS is very early Jan and I think does miss out a bit however hard we try.
I'm a summer birthday girl and love it. Both my SIL and best friend put off starting ttc until December to aim for September....
Now, 6 months in to ttc, I'd really take anything!

ovenchips · 10/02/2012 14:42

Another reason to avoid September is it's a very, very busy month for births. 9 months after Christmas and all that. My DC was born in early September and the hospital was seriously overstretched with labouring women and it really affected the care I received. Had another DC in October and completely different experience.

PopoonezerScrooge · 10/02/2012 14:40

Should have added though that if I could just pick a month it would be May (seeing as how that was the question you asked in the first place).

PopoonezerScrooge · 10/02/2012 14:35

I always wanted any month other than September - because my dad was born in September and hated being the eldest in his year at school. DS1 was born, a month early, in September.

DC2 was born in April and DC3 in August.

I've never purposefully aimed at a certain month though & if, for example, you decided you wanted a September baby you would only have a 3 day window once every 12 months to conceive. That's fairly restrictive really isn't it?

Chunkychicken · 10/02/2012 14:32

I'm 1st Sept born which meant I was the oldest in the year and I missed out on proper birthday parties because school wasn't back yet & everyone forgot about mine!! I was born 2wks early though. My sis is 13th Sept, so my parents planned that well!!!

My DD is April & that worked really well for my maternity leave (I'm a teacher) & I'm currently hoping for this bean to stick & be 'done cooking' in October, which isn't too bad for ML either. Worse months must be July/August - you 'lose' pay as you're on ML when on holiday, rather than full pay. As it happens, all things being equal, an October baby would put it precisely 2.5yrs between my DC, so I had thought how 'neatly' it would work out. Not that simple though, as we actually started TTC last month & its still early days...

Def def def wouldn't want August but a friend's DD EDD was Oct but born 2 mths early, so now a premmie born in August.

So you can't plan it at all!!! Just start TTC & what will be, will be!!!

iloveberries · 10/02/2012 14:20

most people i know who have a preference try and avoid june - aug so baby isn't youngest in the school year. (some mners will be along soon to quote all the stats!)

BUT - it's bloody hard to get pg for some people (including me) so i'll take anything!

nagynolonger · 10/02/2012 14:07

I never planned the birth months of any of my 6. For me the best birth month was May because I really enjoyed have a new baby in the early summer. It was much harder to get out and about with the winter babies. I have 3 summer born boys and they have struggled being the youngest in the school year. Even now my 16 yearold feels left behind because some of his school friends have cars and he can't have lessons until the end of August.
I know my own DS and DDiL planned an October birth. I still think just have a baby and don't 'over plan it'!

happywheezer · 10/02/2012 13:58

I liked April, and got a May.
But this was only after PFB was December but born in July.
Have a wide opening, so to speak

miaowmix · 10/02/2012 13:54

March and June, I meant.
