Morning ladies!

I have bleated on about spotting before AF a lot now on these conception boards and have realised that it does seem to happen to a log of people, can be for many different reasons and also people can be fobbed off by the doctors as "nothing to worry about".

My periods were normal until last August when I started getting brown spotting 4 days before AF came in full force.

I have googled and googled and there are lots of threads of women TTC with this mysterious affliction, but they only last about 20 posts so you can never find out what the outcome was. What were they treated for? Did they manage to conceive? And the one that I'm always desperate to know the minute I start spotting every month; did they get the spotting the month they conceived?

So I want this thread I be a place for TTC mumsnetters who spot before AF to come and share their experiences and stories and support. The information out there is so conflicted so it would be so good to keep this one going until we get some answers and some BFPs!!

It was my 16 month I got pregnant. But I did put other half on loads of vitamins 2 months previous and took soy isoflavones the month I got pregnant. So I do think it was the soy that gave me a better egg quality and maybe helped that he had been on about 10 different vitamins for two months x

@orangeloo how long have you been TTC? Are you under any treatment? We have been TTC since September 2019.
@bubblybub how long did it take you to get pregnant?

Bubblybub · 29/06/2020 19:01

Yep and I still carried on spotting until I was 5 weeks. So not a clue what it even is. However I did use the progesterone cream that month. didn’t help the spotting at all but I wonder if it gave me a boost I needed after OV.

orangeloo · 29/06/2020 16:34

@Morgane777 ah I see. I'm glad it works for you. Sadly progesterone didn't stop my spotting. One doctor thinks my thyroid is to blame even when my tsh is okay. So I was really pleased to see @Bubblybub and a couple of others get BFP's even with the spotting

Morgane777 · 29/06/2020 15:25

@orangeloo I'm in Montreal (Canada)... I got a prescription from my doctor. We had a virtual appointment and I came back to talking about the spotting issue (he never gave any importance to it).
My spotting around ovulation day had stopped a couple of months ago thanks to Letrozole, but I continued to spot some days before AF. So, when the doctor asked me when it was the first day of my period, I told him it was difficult to know because of the spotting, so he said: "I'll give you progesterone to deal with this issue".
So he gave me a prescription for "Treva progesterone". I have to take a vaginal suppository twice a day. I started last month and worked very well for me. It can delay your AF though.

orangeloo · 27/06/2020 09:00

@Morgane777 did you get that from the nhs? What progesterone are you taking?

Morgane777 · 26/06/2020 14:29

Hey ladies!
Thanks for the updated @orangeloo!
@Bubblybub congratulations! I wish you the best with your pregnancy! Flowers
As for me, I'm on progesterone from ovulation day up to two weeks. This definitely stopped my spotting. So, maybe, in my case, my spotting was due to low progesterone levels during the luteal phase. But as @orangeloo says, it can be du to some other reasons.
Anyway, the positive stories give us hope!
Good luck to us all! Smile

Bubblybub · 24/06/2020 08:51

Sorry guys I really should of updated!! Totally forgot. But I was one of the people orangeloo was talking about. I still had spotting even before I got my BFP. So I thought I was out. It was exactly the same as it was every month. 7 days before my period. Yet I still got my positive test. I’m now 7 weeks 3 days. Good luck everyone x

orangeloo · 24/06/2020 08:32

Hey all, just wanted to say that last month i've seen a few ppl get pregnant even with spotting (2 from 5 DPO). So don't give up guys. This gave me some hope so thought I'd share.

I'm still spotting even on progesterone so think there must be another reason too apparently thyroid can be even when tsh is good. Having tube test next month.

Anyone else got any updates. X

orangeloo · 14/05/2020 13:47

@Kiza I got it off eBay as it's American. Yes def worth an ask.

Kiza · 14/05/2020 13:40

@orangeloo thanks, did you manage to buy it OTC? I found was appears to be a god gel called Circone but I need a prescription so am going to call my consultant and ask if she would consider prescribing me to try before we start IVF

orangeloo · 14/05/2020 13:23

@kiza I used emrita in the past. I've got prescribed suppositories now. I choose emrita as if u get a BFP it's one of the few that is still safe to use.

Kiza · 14/05/2020 11:31

@orangeloo do you mind sharing which progesterone cream you are using? Just wondering how to research which one to use?

orangeloo · 08/05/2020 16:57

@titicaca86 I don't think your breast implants would be the culprit. I'm no doctor but for most it's hormonal of a fibroid etc. I'm like you spot from around 6DPO since March 2017 and spotted ever since. I sometimes wonder if it was triggered by stress or just by being not as healthy. Although I've tried since to be healthier and not always stressed. I think mine is low progesterone. Have you had any investigations?

Bubblybub · 08/05/2020 16:16

@titicaca86 hey! Yes I have them myself - but hasn’t got anything to do with spotting I’m afraid. I think spotting is deffo hormonal based in most people!

titicaca86 · 08/05/2020 15:04

Hello. Serial spotter here. Had a very robust cycle up until a few years ago (June 2016) when, out of the blue, I had 9 days of spotting prior to my period. Things have never returned to normal since.

I’m just curious to know if anyone else with persistent spotting has breast implants? I had mine put in just before my spotting issue started.

Educationstudiesstudent1234 · 06/05/2020 15:58

@orangeloo thankyou for the thread, will join as nice to speak to anyone in a similar boat.

orangeloo · 06/05/2020 12:28

@Educationstudiesstudent1234 well you are still In with a chance. Textbook answer would be if no af still in 48 hours test again. But that's easier said than done. Did you use FMU? If this month isn't it for you. It's completely understandable to feel sad and frustrated. Your at the worst point of the cycle too remember just be kind to yourself and do what you need to to pick yourself up and then try again. There's a thread for women who have been trying more than a year TTC first baby 1 year + thread 2 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/3696095-ttc-first-baby-1-year-thread-2 it can help to share if you feel like it. X

Educationstudiesstudent1234 · 06/05/2020 11:38

[sad]@orangeloo..... it’s negative Hmm. No period yet I don’t understand. I’m not sure if I can deal with yet another month of disappointment. I know some ladies have been TTC a lot longer than 18 months. But with my friends poppin them out left right and centre, the last year n half has felt a life time already. Struggling mentally with it allSad

orangeloo · 06/05/2020 09:42

@Educationstudiesstudent1234 your 14 DPO test away! FX

Educationstudiesstudent1234 · 05/05/2020 22:19

Bubblybub · 05/05/2020 15:23

@Pipbin deffo typed the wrong name sorry! @PipTed I’m so glad you came and shared that with us as it gives us all hope! Xx

Morgane777 · 05/05/2020 14:10

@PipTed thanks for sharing your positive story! This gives hope! Hope your pregnancy goes well! Smile Flowers

PipTed · 05/05/2020 14:06

Thank you @bubblybub - In my experience they have never been too bothered about all of the spotting, even though I have raised it several times. I did wonder about progesterone, as I read that can be a contributing factor to successful pregnancies. But the docs have never mentioned it, no. I suppose it’s something they would look into re: multiple m/c? Sorry, I’m not sure if that helpful at all Smile

Pipbin · 05/05/2020 14:02

@bubblybub.
I think you might have @ the wrong person there. I’ve not posted on this thread in 8 years and I’m certainly not pregnant!
