Hey Comedy Wow! 20 weeks what a milestone, sounds like it's going great x

cherry That's funny about the ice thing we didn't cover that one! Did your DH go with you, we did have a laugh about it. Ooh wheres the kid friendly spa sounds lovely. Sorry about another BFN, you kind of have renewed hope starting a new regime. How many DPO are you?

Child free night for us tonight........what to do? Don't say SWI I'm fed up of it!

cherrycheeks · 06/01/2012 16:56

Fantastic scan news free and iggi!!!

Loving all the birth stories too- especially snoopy and the hypnobirthing.. I also ripped it off like a mad woman during labour! It has worked for lots of friends though. I vaguely remember listening the hypno lady chanting about breathing a hole in a block of ice for weeks and weeks.

BFN for me so far. I wasn't really holding out for a BFP on the first cycle of superov but still a bit sad about it.

Thanks sue for the Asda tip!

At a spa hotel in the country with DH and DD.. Very relaxing, DD looks so cute in her little fluffy robe! Hotel very toddler friendly which makes it so much more enjoyable. Off for a cocktail and an early dinner now.

Hi all - great news about the scans Iggi and free - I'm twenty weeks today and have got scan next Thursday - still really worried about it - would be good to think that the worry stops at some point but it obviously doesn't!! I had an emergency cs with my first and elective with second so there is no choice with my third which in a way makes it easier. A cs is a bit like someone washing up inside your stomach - a strange sensation but not painful.
I really hope that Duggs is right and everyone will be merrily on their way with pregnancies by June. I understand what has been said about where people would/should be with their pregnancies and now I am in the fortunate situation of it working (fingers crossed!) I just think how i will look at this baby and think how it might not have been them if an earlier pregnancy had worked if you see what I mean. So whilst we can never be glad to have had so many losses hopefully that 'right' one will come along for us all x

snoopygirl · 06/01/2012 13:43

Loving the birth stories........I even did Hypnobirthing which makes me chuckle now.... I did actually make me really chilled out/ready the birth...although when labour was underway I ripped the Hypno chanting music off my head as I couldn't stand it! Think I would have been better off blasting myself with some ACDC or something
In end the end I thought the C Sec was great. Couldn't drive for six weeks but didn't particulary want to and felt absolutley fine. Think I would go for another one but saying that I felt a bit of a fraud afterwards and like I'd let myself down. And I ended up having so many drugs that wasn't lucid enough to really enjoy the birth.

Oh sue that's does sound funny after the event with the pool and stuff.

Depsite checking with my husband about having change for weeks before for the hospital car park, he said on way to hosp could he just stop at the cashpoint!! Well you can imagine the response....we ended up dumping the car where the ambulances stop!

Arianrhod · 06/01/2012 12:47

free fab news about your scan, I'm so pleased (and relieved!) for you.

Births - well I'm not sure anyone needs to be scared by listening to mine, but I would say right now, whatever birth plans you intend to put in place, do keep a very open mind about it as it can all change in the blink of an eye. I wasn't going to have an epidural (I did), was going to have a birth pool (I couldn't), absolutely never wanted to give birth lying on my back, as they advise you not to if you can help it (I did), etc etc. I would also stress that you pre-warn your OH to fight your corner with the nursing staff if it becomes necessary - I needed that, myself, because the nursing staff thought I was just spacing out on gas & air and couldn't be bothered to push, whereas in fact it turned out my daughter was stuck sideways and couldn't be pushed out, but I didn't get the backup I needed because my ex-hubby didn't believe me either!

Welcome back kittens, let's hope 2012 is a damn sight better for everyone than cr@ppy 2011 turned out to be :)

suemays · 06/01/2012 12:47

PQ funny you should say that about the kitten as I have been looking at Lakeland terrier puppies for sale this morning!

PQ77 · 06/01/2012 12:46

that's really interesting sue, thanks - i will add that to my what to do next options list (which includes getting a british blue kitten...)

PQ77 · 06/01/2012 12:43

kittens - yip, you've got it, look out for the Hollywood blockbuster next summer with a sweating crying runner in fluorescent kit plodding past the cortege...

suemays · 06/01/2012 12:41

PQ there is an organisation that puts you in contact with surrogates so dont rule it out. You only pay their expenses. One of my mums friends (a midwife) has 2 friends who have done it so it can work out well. I would be up for it but my DH wouldnt unfortunately. He doesnt think its natural! I dont care so long as I get a baby!

I wonder if they will include you in the film - imagine that, you could be famous! At least it will look realistic as you werent acting!

suemays · 06/01/2012 12:38

Iggi you must be psychic!

I would go for a natural birth again if poss (if I get to that stage ever again) as I was out of hospital the next morning and down the pub wetting the babies head by lunchtime (after doing a breastfeed)! The recovery is much quicker but it depends on how the labour goes at the time.

Havingkittens · 06/01/2012 12:36

I'm laughing, PQ, because I first assumed you meant that black humour was my field (which is very much is) but then realised you meant filming. True in both instances. Now I am imagining the film crew staring bemusedly at you weeping in your running gear, ploughing your way through their shot. Whoops!

PQ77 · 06/01/2012 12:35

hi sue - just missed your post. I think you would be so lucky to have a friend who offered that to you. I would definitely consider a surrogate but i don't think i have anyone who could/would (I did have one friend who offered actually but she has had 5 pregnancies (sadly one still birth) so I think her Dr might baulk at a sixth!!)

having a plan in place definitely helps i think. It is the only way i can even begin to contemplate trying again this month after 6 previous miscarriages - without a plan and some sense of purpose I would be completely crushed.

suemays · 06/01/2012 12:34

Forgot to say, I was 2 weeks early with my daughter and was supposed to be having a home birth. I had hired a birthing pool which my husband had assured me he had set up. My waters broke around 7.15pm on the friday eve and my husband didnt tell me that he hadnt got the pool ready (he was sure I would be late!)

He worked out that it would take 2 days to fill the pool up and get it to the right temp before I could use it (of course he didnt tell me that when I was in labour). The curtains and pole also had to be put up in the room where the birthing pool was as we had just moved in so my FIL was busy doing that whilst I was trying to cook dinner. I had some crazy idea that I would premake lots of dinners for us so that it would be easier once the baby was home. That morning Tesco had delivered loads of fresh meat so I didnt want to waste it! I could have killed him as I was in the lounge having contractions with the midwife whilst him and his dad were frantically running behind me from the kitchen into the dining room where the pool was with a kettle! I stopped dialating at 6cm so because of the risk of infection I had to be taken into hospital to be induced the next day, I never got to use the pool! My DD was born at 8pm on the Saturday so I was in labour for 25 hours. So Free birthing plans rarely go to plan! Also I had a tens machine that DH had put on me but it was only when I started pushing that the midwife told me he had not put it on properly! I managed to go through the whole thing with only gas and air and no stitches or tears. I am sure the fact that we did perineal massage helped. www.babyworld.co.uk/information/birth/assisted_delivery/perineal_massage.asp

PQ77 · 06/01/2012 12:29

welcome back kittens - wishing you every bit of luck for swi. i managed to unwittingly run into a film set at the naval college today - there were 12 hearses and i didn't see the production crew so I started crying as it was so moving as each had flag over the coffin, tearful mourners etc. I got so annoyed when I saw the cameras and the penny dropped! i am sure I ruined all their shots plodding through in my running gear, i don't know how i got through security (of course noticed all the barriers later). Just thought I would share that black humour with you as I think that's your field? Doing everything in writing is so hard; hope you will feel up to our meet up on 28 Jan.

i am expecting a smiley face tomorrow...

Great scan news free and iggi

free - I had a Dr Beer textbook early waters breaking and early labour at 36 weeks - much like digi. but i got to 5cm v quickly ended up with an emergency c section as DS was breech and his foot was pushing out the umbilical cord through my cervix [ie cutting off his oxygen supply]. I never knew you how fast you could end up having surgery...I can bore you witless with my thoughts on hospitals etc when we see each other next.

If (or rather when, let's be positive) I get to that stage again - and assuming I get past 36 weeks - i will opt for an elective c-section at 37/38 weeks, largely because of the previous c section (VBAC is of course an option but at the moment i would opt for the csection).

igginezerscrooge · 06/01/2012 12:26

X-posts - I think about Sue and she appears! Nice to see you Smile

igginezerscrooge · 06/01/2012 12:24

I had a ecs last time and will be doing the same again if I get there. Don't know if it's at 38 or 39 weeks though. It's nothing to be scared of really, if that's what happens.

igginezerscrooge · 06/01/2012 12:23

Hope Sue is doing ok.

suemays · 06/01/2012 12:22

Hi ladies, have been lurking on here for the last few days but am now back and ready again to start trying.

Free I had a good feeling about this pregnancy for you from the start! I think you can start relaxing now!

I was really positive with the pregnancy I have just lost so was feeling optimistic for a change. I dont think it makes any difference to whether we lose it or not!

Euro dont worry, I didnt take your comment the wrong way as I was thinking the same as you re the non viable egg etc.

Choccy I am not being put on the hydroxy next time as I dont think a chemical pregnancy counts as a proper miscarriage in terms of changing the treatment plan. I know the disappointment etc is the same though. Maybe Dr S will be doing the same with you? I completely agree with you about the mixed feelings of being happy for the successful stories on here but feeling upset at the same time. I think we all have friends who have babies that would have been the same age as one that we have lost. Its so hard to stay strong, like Duggs said, we have good and bad hours not days now.

I have been researching IVF with the Array-CGH that Duggs talked about as its supposed to be good for recurrent miscarriages. I think that will be my last chance of having another child but all depends on the money and if the superov works. I am going to give it 2 more attempted pregnancies on the superov plan before I decide. I am also toying with the idea of surrogacy in the next couple of years as one of my friends has offered to have my baby for me (using my embryo). Not sure it would work well in reality though as it might be a bit weird - would anyone else consider it?

I have booked in for my first acupuncture in a couple of weeks as going to try that next (something has got to work surely?) Does anyone else feel more in control when they have a plan in place or is it just me? Just want my damn period to arrive so that I can start on the letrozole.

I was the one who found out that Asda was the cheapest for the superov drugs, same as any fertility drugs so if anyone does go through IVF you can get the drugs there too at cost price.

Its a good idea to have an alert somewhere on here such as cheaper FRER tests and drugs etc. I bought my FRER tests in Superdrug before Xmas at bogof but they have stopped that offer now!

Duggs how is the plan going now? When do you test?

Waves to everyone else

freelancegirl · 06/01/2012 11:58

Agree with everything you said euro. And yes, looking forward to seeing what mr s has to say about it further down rhe line

eurochick · 06/01/2012 11:44

free I remember reading in the Dr Beer book about early sections too. I think the reasoning was that the NK cells could attack the placenta causing it to fail early (I feel a bit odd about typing this as I don't want to give you and the other pg ladies something else to worry about but I guess we probably all have the book and have probably read this at some point anyway). However, I haven't seen any research to back that up. Maybe the effectiveness of the treatments in early pregnancy means it is no longer an issue? I guess Mr S has seen plenty of births in women with high or v high NK cells so it could be something to ask him about when the time comes.

freelancegirl · 06/01/2012 11:24

Crossed posts with choccy and snoopy and stogan.

I am aware that choccy and ari would have been the same stage as me and scooter even further along. I know how it feels having been there before. I've been hanging around the miscarriage and conception boards long enough to see people have babies that share two of my due dates. There was a time when I was pregnant until 8 weeks and Digi was havjng a tough time getting pregnant. Then I miscarried and she got pregnant and is still successfully pregnant as we know. It's bittersweet, but with this thread as ww are all going through the same thing, hopefully the successes of those in front of us are good signs that the treatment works and can give us all hope we will all get there too.

Good to here snoopy's birth story too! I think that's why I haven't developed any strong opinions about what I would like from a birth. You hear so many people making plans that are totally futile once it comes down to it! How was the c section experience? Does that mean you will have another one next time? I also haven't thought about mine in ant realistic way because it just seems a bit far fetched to think I might get that far. But I guess birth plans are one of those things you can speculate about (like baby names) even if you're not actually having a baby imminently! Anyone got any strong opinions about a speculative birthing experience?

Stogan · 06/01/2012 11:19

Woo hoo free what fab news YEYGrinGrinGrin

Iggi sorry didn't rep last night was straight to sleep but I too stopped the aspirin at 20 weeks, as Digi says was sooooo nice to be pill popping free at last !!

Digi, just wondered have they mentioned anything about u maybe not going full term with this pregnancy? I'm really convinced that I'm going to go into labour early with ours, don't know why I'm just certain! Any thoughts anyone? Wink

freelancegirl · 06/01/2012 10:52

Kittens, so glad to hear it all went as well as expected. I feel so sorry for uou with your granny. It must add to the sadness and confusion.

Thanks for all the support re the scan everyone. I measured 11+4 again which is bang on my LMP dates and consistent with all measurements with mr s previously. St marys have always been 3 days ahead and luckily Digi pre warned me that happened with her too so that's one thing I haven't mentalled about!

It's great to hear birth stories Digi and yes would be helpful to hear more. Was ds technically premature then? It must be odd in a way having a due date in mind then adjusting this when the baby is actually born a month earlier. Will be interesting to see if anyone else has similar stories.

I think I remember reading in dr beer's book that he had a pref for c sections at 38 weeks with his immune patients but can't remember why.

I haven't ever even thought about what sort of birth preferences I have! I dOnt yet have any opinions. But I guess I have a few milestones to get passed first before I really need to start worrying about it. But yes, point taken re distance to hospital being potentially challenging!

snoopygirl · 06/01/2012 10:47

same here...kittens nice to hear from you and good luck with this month ttc, god knows you deserve some nice happy news x

My childbirth experience was that I was 7 days late and didn't dilate past about 1/2cm in 24hrs of labour. I seem to remember head never really engaged properly in last few weeks. Hence waterbirth and all those lovely plans went out window. I ending up having a c sec after hanging on as long as possible, in fact the surgeons went home as was so against it and had to be called back. I had a low lying placenta which was only real issue but that didn't seem to cause to many issues.

I was about 20mins from hospital and I wouldn't want to be any further than that. They tried sending me back home because I wasn't dilated enough I begged them to keep me in. DS head was pressing on back/spine (no tummy pain, all in back, weird) so things were pretty unbearable and the thought of them sending me home..well I wouldn't have gone, I'd have sat in corridor wailing till they let me back in!

On that I must catch up on One Born Every Minute missed it the other night and love that prog -the OH's in it are hilarious!

ChoccyPud · 06/01/2012 10:32

Lovely news free. Really pleased for you.
Maybe if he puts me on the hydroxy I'll get a properly sticky one too next time. Sorry to sound selfish but I'd have been at exactly your stage now so while I'm delighted for you and you're my source of hope it also clangs a bit too iykwim.

Anyway, I must keep pecker up, keep looking forward and all that.

Kittens good to see you back. Fingers crossed for you, you are certainly due some good news!
