Opps, should've refreshed page before posting!
Blimey kittens that's a lot of money! What do u think you'll do next? I can't imagine what you must be thinking. Remember, we are all hear for a vent of anger, tears and all other emotion x x

Havingkittens · 25/01/2012 10:53

My result was 10.4, so if 30 was on the low side I can't possibly see how 10.4 can be assumed as normal!

hopefulfor2nd · 25/01/2012 10:52

Hey kittens, glad to hear you're working out a plan of action and getting some answers at last. Let us know how u get on when Mr lower replies.

Also lurking for scan news x x

eurochick · 25/01/2012 10:41

kittens that is awful treatment. You must be furious.

What was the day 21 test result that Mr S interpreted differently from the NHS? My day 21 test result was 30 which is high enough to confirm ov but is on the low side, but no one has every wanted to restest to see how things are now.

snoopy I'm not sure if you will find this helpful but I sometimes have to remind myself that all healthcare professionals are just advisors. You ultimately have responsibility over your own body. If you want to disregard the advice because you don't think it is right for you, that is your decision to make.

Welcome back, mercator and congr... on your BFP.

Havingkittens · 25/01/2012 10:34

GULP!

I've just been on the phone to Mr Lower's secretary. I was baulking at paying £1300 for a hysteroscopy at NLC..... he charges £4,500! And that doesn't include the price of the initial appointment and 3D scan. She suggested I get the images from the scan I just had and bring them in to get a second opinion on whether I need the procedure or not and that I wouldn't be obliged to have the surgery, but I suspect once I was there I'd get told all sorts of horror stories about how important it is to have an expert such as himself perform the surgery.

Imagine, after forking out for that, that I find I need to have IVF, or the other more expensive form of IVF that duggs mentions which screens the embryos before implantation - which I suspect I would choose over and above normal IVF if it came to it, due to my history. It's pretty prohibitive.

PQ77 · 25/01/2012 09:29

kittens - i had endometriosis adhesions lasered off, but then had to have another surgery two years later to laser off the scarring from the first lot of surgery! I scar very easily so the second time they gave me steriods to reduce the scarring and subsequent ops I took anti inflammatory meds to try and reduce the scar tissue. My doctors have used the words adhesions and scarring interchangebly but there is a bit of a difference. Adhesions are where bits are stuck where they shouldn't be - eg my ovaries are stuck to my bowel and scarring is thick tissue. But since you've seen the video you are prob an expert on this now!

Havingkittens · 25/01/2012 09:10

I just watched a video of Mr Lower talking about Asherman's. He describes it as adhesions so perhaps I'm jumping the gun by assuming that scarring comes under that heading. I'm going to try and find out if scarring alone is ok to treat by laser as I can't imagine how you'd treat it with scissors. I suppose that must be just for the adhesions.

Note to self - Find out all facts before becoming hysterical!

Havingkittens · 25/01/2012 09:00

Having read lots of the Asherman's threads and had a think about stuff I remembered that at the first appointment, with the GP that wasn't my regular, he did acknowledge that scarring could be a problem but also said that surgery for scarring could actually end up making things worse. I have a feeling that was why he didn't refer me in the end and frightened me into leaving well alone. When I went back to my own GP, he didn't exactly dismiss me out of hand in a nasty way. He "reassured me", in his usual kindly way, that he didn't think my symptoms were indicative of scarring. In the past he has said he would do whatever I needed him to do to help me achieve a successful pregnancy, including referring me to Mr S at St Helier, which is why I didn't challenge his opinion about my possible scarring.

Having also read all the comments on the Asherman's threads about it being so important to have the surgery done by an expert in this field, I am now wondering if it's a blessing in a way that I didn't get the NHS referral. I had bunion surgery on the NHS about 3 years ago and my foot is still causing me quite bad problems, I really regret now not having had it done privately. Imagine having the same regret with something that could have a devastating effect on fertility. Also, considering the comments I have read I am actually wondering how much of a good idea it is to have this done at NLC when they do it by laser (which a lot of the threads say to avoid) over having it done by someone like Mr Lower. I think the price I saw on "Mummyabroad's" thread was not the price she paid, but what someone else had told her as a non overseas patient, and it was at least double what I've been quoted - which has already sent me reeling! Yikes! Anyway, I'm going to email him now and ask him more about it as well as posting on here and fertilityfriends to ask if anyone's had it done at NLC.

batteryhen · 25/01/2012 07:49

Kittens Yes he is at princess grace. I think mummyabroad was quoted more as she was classed as being non - resident. If you like I can dig out his email address and you can go from there - it is entirely up to you xx

Just off to ST Marys now - will check in later - good luck to picolina too xx

duggs1976 · 25/01/2012 07:20

Oops. . More positive outlook for moving forward it is better to now have a plausible problem for your lack of conception. So, get the surgery booked in - hysteroscopy i guess ? ( what I just had but mine turned out only investigative) as soon as possible. Apparently the conception rates after this surgery are quite high. Then there will be 4 weeks recovery and you could we well on your way to successfully ttc by start of march. I would agree 3 rounds of ov for you, get as many of your eggs out at a time ( so to speak). Takes you to may. Then if not PG by may then re look at options. Is hideous what has happened but the anger won't help right now as you know! We r waiting on super ov thread for you kittens. Best of luck. Reckon you'll be fixed by end of next week! Grin

duggs1976 · 25/01/2012 07:13

Ok so today is Wednesday kittens, so yes you must do what you must to alert the shortcomings of the go and other nhs staff. However, with a more "positive

Havingkittens · 24/01/2012 23:27

Oh god, as usual, I've been completely self absorbed. Best of luck to you two ladies tomorrow. x

suemays · 24/01/2012 23:26

I know with surrogacy that you pay for any expenses that the surrogate might need in the pregnancy such as maternity clothes, travel expenses etc. You dont actually pay them a wage to do it so it might not be as expensive as you think.

They perform IVF with your embryo but not sure if the cost is increased due to it being put in the 'host' mother.

You cant advertise for a surrogate but there are companies that can put you in touch with one. Have a look at www.surrogacyuk.org/home.
One of my friends has offered to surrogate for us but I dont know if I would feel weird a friend doing it, would be better if its a stranger. Surrogacy is good for women with recurrent miscarriage so thats why I looked into it as it would be my last resort. I dont think egg donation would work for any of us as you say our bodies will reject any embryo. You could do surrogacy where they use the hosts egg and your Dhs sperm so it would be like egg donation but she would carry it for you. I personally wouldnt want to do this as I wouldnt feel like the baby was mine but everyone is different. I also wouldnt want to adopt as I know I would treat the 2nd child differently to my 3 year old. There are still avenues for you to explore so dont give up hope yet!!! We are all with you on this journey honey xxx

digitalgirl · 24/01/2012 23:16

Quick one before I fall asleep: Good luck to battery and picolina tomorrow.

I did have a little look at mummyabroad's thread and it looks like she paid twice as much as I've been quoted Shock. When I asked the first GP about it he did also mention the risk of surgery making matters worse rather than better as well. Maybe that's why he didn't refer me in the end.

I've not thought about surrogacy sue. I'm guessing that's going to be extremely expensive. Egg donation was suggested to me by a few consultants as my best hope following my RMC tests but I don' t know how I feel about that. Also, if I have high NK Cells which are rejecting embryos who are 50% foreign DNA I don't fancy the chances of 100% foreign DNA.

batteryhen · 24/01/2012 22:43

Kittens - am just in bed, will look it all up for you in the morning. Between us all we should be able to come up with a plan x

suemays · 24/01/2012 22:43

Sorry didnt mean egg donation - meant surrogacy. Think I need to go to bed!

suemays · 24/01/2012 22:42

Kittens so sorry to hear your bad news. I have heard about Ashermans syndrome which is why I have tried to opt for not having a D&C with 2 of my miscarriages. You are right that no-one really explains the risks involved and that it can cause problems in future pregnancies. I know that if you have health insurance and try to say that you need to have investigations due to period problems they will cover it - just dont mention that you are doing it for recurrent miscarriage as they wont pay for it. Ridiculous as neither of them are your own fault so it should be covered regardless!

I wondered if I had Ashermans just but Dr S said it was very unlikely. St Marys offered me a hysteroscopy on the NHS but there was around a 4 month waiting list to have it done. I was also told it could go wrong and could damage my womb so I decided not to have it done. I think unless the surgeon knows what he is doing it can make it worse - hence why you seem to have had lots a surgeries. I know there is a place in Athens that other ladies have spoken about which is supposed to be very good with Ashermans but again it is the cost factor. Have you considered egg donation as that might be an option? For me so long as I get the end result I dont care how I do it!

PQ77 · 24/01/2012 22:28

Also about to crash into bed but just wanted to say I'm so upset for you kittens. The speed with which drs dismiss ashermans syndrome or scarring is breathtaking. I had one Harley st ob/gyn practically laugh in my face when I tentatively suggested that it might be an issue (I've had 5 surgeries involving my uterus if you count the c-section). He is in his 50s, former head of obstetrics at a london hospital, and said he had never before seen ashermans syndrome. Mummyabroad knows her stuff- she is v helpful. And I am no expert but I did do a bit of research when I tested last year and I think your amh level is pretty good for your age.

Havingkittens · 24/01/2012 22:18

battery have you been treated by Mr Lower? How much does he charge? Where is he? At Princess Grace?

batteryhen · 24/01/2012 22:02

kittens - Definitley try MR Lower - when I emailed him he said to book to see him right away. As you have already had one procedure - you can take the report along and he can look at it I imagine. He uses scissors too. There is a video on you-tube of interviews with him. It makes me mad that sometimes the NHS do things like this and leave you to sort it out yourself. x

Havingkittens · 24/01/2012 21:57

I can't help wondering, if the consultant thinks that the termination was the cause for the scarring, whether the subsequent 3 miscarriages were partly caused by this rather than NK cells. They did scan me during my RMC tests mid cycle and they said my lining was thick enough. But then again, I was also told by my GP, and actually by the other consultant at Mr S's NHS clinic that my Day 21 tests indicated I had ovulated when Mr S told me to the contrary. I don't really know whether to believe anything the NHS have told me anymore! It adds insult to injury as the second termination I had on the NHS was one of the most traumatic things I've have ever been though. My hospital had taken it upon themselves to outsource terminations to Marie Stopes to help with their budget. It was degrading, humiliating and traumatic to say the very least! And now this? Marvellous Angry

I have read that it's best to have it done with small scissors (ouch!), rather than laser but I think there are only a select couple of people that do this and god knows how long it will take for a referral. I just don't feel like I have much time left. My head is spinning a little. As if it wasn't spinning enough with all the other stuff I have on my mind. One of these days I think it will spin so hard it will just fly off!

digitalgirl · 24/01/2012 21:50

kittens Angry I would be fucking furious too! I'm so upset for you that no-one took your Asherman's suspicion seriously. Having had various erpc procedures plus light periods are massive pointers. I remember seeing a gynae after my third miscarriage and they asked whether any of my miscarriages had been surgically removed and then explained that if they had then they would consider scarring as a potential cause for miscarriage. I'm actually surprised that this wasn't picked up by Mr S's team at St Heliers Hmm.
I know it seems like throwing good money after bad but I would definitely recommend batterys suggestion of getting in touch with Dr Lower. He removed the scar tissue from mummyabroad then I think she had to have some sort of follow up treatment, plus scans at certain points in her cycle to check her lining was building up ok. But she got her bfp within 2 cycles of trying and now has a little boy.

Welcome back and congrats mercator!!!

kittens I'm absolutely livid for you. I'd be writing letters to whoever I could think of, if only for a bit of catharsis.

The treatment of women with mc/infertility issues is frankly appalling sometimes. It feels like its not just the physical fact of you being forced to have an ERPC because they cocked up a termination that gets ignored, but there isn't any consideration of the psychological strain of yet another op, the months of fighting to find out what's wrong, the lack of information and support.. All you needed at the moment I'm sure. I am so angry for you. Big hugs xx

And MN have gone very quiet on the mc charter... free have you got any news/insight on it? I suppose the difficulty is getting women to come out and talk about it. I wouldn't want the world knowing my difficulties, not til I can be a success story anyway.

Sorry, v ranty post... And breathe...!

Anyway: any other takers for Saturday?? I keep mentioning it as the thread moves so quickly people might miss it.
