I know im being silly and i knew before i stopped that up to six months to get regular periods was to be expected but i was hoping to have had something by now, even if it wasn't a proper bleed. It just makes you wonder if theres something amiss, even though that's unlikely as I've never had any probs before! This getting ready/TTC lark messes with your mind! Haaa.

Picklestar · 28/01/2012 19:22

Thanx CaveMum for the welcome and the advice. I'm looking forward to being part of the message board! :)

CaveMum · 28/01/2012 19:04

Hi Picklestar, welcome Grin

AF is "Aunt Flo", otherwise known as your period.

Some people like to use it, others find it a bit twee - it's up to you!

I think it is totally normal to feel disappointed when you see a negative test. My advice, if you can, is try to resist the temptation to POAS (piss on a stick) until you are actually late. I know it's easier said than done but honestly it will save some tears and a lot of money!

Try not to pressurise yourself: the advice from Drs is that a totally healthy couple with no fertility issues will take on average 6 months to conceive, so while you often hear people claiming to have fallen pregnant straight away, I'd say most of them are fibbing!

Picklestar · 28/01/2012 18:51

PS, I probably being really thick but whats AF? I can't find it on the acronym list!

Picklestar · 28/01/2012 18:49

Heya all can I join?

Will be fab to talk to people about conceiving and get some tips! I'm going to have to study the acronym page, so please bare with me!

Last month was our first month trying to conceive our first child, got a negative pregnancy test, which I was shocked about, even though it was our first month, think I need a reality check! Did anyone else feel like this?

I see you've been taking about periods on here, I stopped contraception in August and so far my periods have been 4-6 weeks apart! so no idea when I'm ovulating. Ive bought ovulation predictor kits, has anyone used these before? Any good?

Good Luck to us all, I'm excited and surprised by how obsessed I am by it already! :o

raspberrytipple · 28/01/2012 16:01

Congratulations Nearly lol. That's good though, it means you can get going proper now!

Glad the HSG went well Evil fingers crossed its flushed you out and that next cycle is 'the one' :)

Well, AF due on Monday. Really tempted to test and I really, really shouldn't, as if it's actually likely to have happened just because I have my first appt. with the hospital next week! haha, not likely. Plus, I'm getting cramps and am proper stroppy :D

Littlemisslemon, sorry to give you frustrating news but it took me eight months to have a real period after coming off the pill! Having said that, I won't be surprised if there's something wrong with me, as we've now been trying for over two years and still nada. It's completely normal for it to take up to six months, though - the doctors won't do anything until it's been that long.

The HSG went fine, thank you to everyone for the encouraging comments! It was almost entirely pain-free, just a bit odd having lots of people and machinery around. I felt distinctly sick afterwards though, but took the rest of the day off work and then walked (slowly) all afternoon as if I stayed still or indoors for any length of time the nausea returned. Walking is good!

The radiologist confirmed that the HSG can clear the tubes a little and therefore potentially increase the likelihood of getting pregnant, so we are keeping our fingers crossed :)

NearlyDunne · 28/01/2012 15:33

AF HAS ARRIVED WOOOOOOOOO

littlemisslemon · 28/01/2012 09:15

raspberrytipple · 27/01/2012 21:58

OP posts:
Beeblebear · 27/01/2012 19:37

littlemiss - mine came day 27 off the pill. I was worried as had gone on the pill when I was younger because of painful cysts - now knowing more now then I did then I was terribly worried that it wouldn't come, But they seem to be fairly normal between 27-34 days. Hard to pinpoint ov though.

What pill were you on? I was on alesse and yaz off an on for the last 3 years.

littlemisslemon · 27/01/2012 19:22

raspberry i couldnt find the thread yesterday either! Weird. And revision is slow but ok ta. Hmmmm 6 weeks and still no AF. Aaargh! Geeting bored now. Whats the longest its taken for people to have their first 'real' period when off the pill?.

JosieSmith1 · 27/01/2012 13:27

Hi Flick how's things? All ok I hope? Yes please keep me a seat, I don't plan on being long (mind you, I've been saying that for almost 2 years!)

Flickstar · 27/01/2012 11:28

Hello evil! Hope all goes well with your HSG- I did find mine painful but then I am a wimp and I know it's not normal to find them painful so I wonder if I might have had a little bit of a blockage or something in one of my tubes. Even if everything is fine the HSG is meant to give all of the pipes a good flush out and spring clean so fingers crossed after that your eggs will be whizzing along towards those sperm. Good luck with it all and will lurk for your news.

Big waves to raspberry, cave and josie as none else knows me! We are keeping seats warm for you and can't wait to ahve you on the otherside. Lots of love xxxx

raspberrytipple · 26/01/2012 21:06

How weird, the thread wasn't appearing on the list but still in my threads I'm on so found it. Oh well :) evening all. Nothing to report here, hope all are ok.

Ratata my GP does a simple urine test if I think I've got another infection, sorted there and then. I know the symptoms as I get infections a lot (only got one functioning kidney)

Evilgiraffe I had an HSG at beginning of December, I was s**t scared but it really was nothing to worry about. It was a bit undignified (running around hospital corridors in gowns hoping no-one could see me!Grin) and having to be 'washed' down there was a bit embarrassing but honestly try not to worry. It was uncomfortable but they talked me through the whole thing and it was just bad period cramps but not really painful as such. I had no bleeding, not a lot of fluid leakage Blush and just very subtle cramping for 1 or 3 days afterwards.

CaveMum · 25/01/2012 18:01

Ratata, it could be kidney stones. DH had very similar problems last year and turned out to be a 3mm kidney stone. He ended up passing it (ouchy) but did find that drinking lots of water helped a bit. He was told if he got anymore pain to go straight to A&E so that they can X-ray him.
Make a nuisance of yourself with your Dr.

Ratata · 25/01/2012 17:00

Hey josie I have similar symptoms but they haven't checked my kidneys yet (is there a test for that? Only had bloods, lower abdo ultrasound and X-ray done). I feel like I need to go to toilet but not much comes out. Doesn't feel like cystitis. Feels more internal. Also have upper and lower back pain which appears to have been brought on by a shopping trip...don't understand that. I go out shopping for an hour and I'm dying of back pain next day.

Did ov stick today and faint line again. Will kee testing to see if dark line comes up, SWI every second day just now anyhoo.

CaveMum · 25/01/2012 14:48

Stupid autocorrect! You're = your!

CaveMum · 25/01/2012 14:47

Hi evil, nice to see you back around!

The HSG is not that bad, undignified and uncomfortable yes, but not painful. I went straight back to work after mine, make sure you take a panty liner with you to help soak up any fluid that decides to take its time leaving. I also bled a tiny but, but that's normal.
The sensation was strange, kind of like period cramps, but I was more concerned by the Dr (male) attempting to make conversation whilst faffing about "down there" Grin

No sign of ov here yet, should be any day now. We've dtd on Saturday, Sunday and last night and will do it again tonight, tomorrow, Friday and Saturday to make sure all bases are covered! Thank the lord for lube, is all I can say!!

Welcome whatsinthebag, hope you're stay here is a short one!

maamalady · 25/01/2012 11:52

Hi everyone, just dropping in to prove I'm still here! Still no sign of being pregnant, referral to the infertility clinic has all been fine although having to go and see the consultant was a bit interesting. Who thought having the infertility clinic in the maternity hospital was a good idea? On our way in we passed a woman being wheeled down the corridor, newborn baby in her arms. Still, I managed not to cry.

I'm having an HSG tomorrow, and an ultrasound in a couple of weeks - I'm almost hoping there's something wrong, so we've got something to fix, or at least an explanation! I have a horrible feeling though that there's going to be nothing physically wrong, and we'll never get to the bottom of it. I'm starting to feel like a "rare case example", what with trying for 25 months now, and me and DH still not yet thirty and neither of us with any health problems.

Can anyone tell me what the HSG is like? I'm getting quite wound up about it! Do you think I'll feel alright enough to go to work afterwards?

whatsinthebagangelos · 25/01/2012 10:36

Thanks for the welcome all. Does anyone here have hypothyroidism? I was diagnosed around 4 years ago. Take thyroxine and everything has been fine ever since. Saw my gp the other day to tell her we were planning to get pregnant. She just said I would need to be under a consultant rather than midwife led care and gave me folic acid and that was that! Any other experiences?

JosieSmith1 · 25/01/2012 08:18

Raspberry is it your first appt at the fertility clinic? If so, I had an internal scan and swab and was on day 5 and still bleeding, the consultant just said she didn?t mind if I didn?t, but they didn?t do an actual pelvic exam, so I would probably ring them and ask. The early you mention it, hopefully they can fit you back in earlier if you do have to re-arrange

Not a lot going on here. I?m slightly worried my kidneys are playing up though ? still feeling run down, and weeing a little more than usual, and slightly getting that uncomfortable feeling I get with kidney problems, like I need to pee, but I don?t. It?s only very slight so I could easily be imagining it Hmm Work is extremely busy so I probably won?t be on for a while, two people off, one unexpectedly and I?ve been lumbered with literally everything because the one other person in the office is pretty much incapable of doing anything (she?s lovely, just hard work!) She asked me how my IVF was going (I?m wasn?t aware I was having IVF), that?s how much attention she pays [not impressed face]

Ratata · 24/01/2012 21:13

I didn't have the appointment booked at that point, I was basically given choice of an appointment that week but postponed til week after. I actually can't remember what scan that was, had so many docs appointments over the last few months! Maybe call to explain the situation and see what they say and if being on your period will be a problem? I have had a gyne exam (vag opened with speculum and swab so just like smear and then she had a feel about for abnormalities, none felt). Had ultra sound which is probably fine if you are on period. And had X-ray too. Nothing found. Health issues suck, they are so worrying! Gotta keep positive though :) hugs x

raspberrytipple · 24/01/2012 20:59

Welcome whatsin!! Good luck!

Ratata she is an odd person anyway, gets on my nerves at the best of times but hey ho. So did you have to give up the appointment? Im really not willing to do that. I've already had one internal with the gp which was pretty basic would it be like that or wud it be like a scan? I'm really worried now :(
