New thread..... let's get going!!

OP posts:
CaveMum · 07/02/2012 07:22

Hello all, sorry you fell off my active threads list!

Had my Day 28 bloods taken yesterday. I think I have ovulated, on about Day 26, so fingers crossed for positive results tomorrow! God knows why I've ovulated a whole 12 days later than last cycle, but I'll chat with the nurses and see what they think.

Hi to all the newbies! I'm something of a permanent fixture around here Grin

Hippolyta20 · 06/02/2012 18:17

Evening everyone.

Josie, nothing wrong with putting yourself first sometimes. In any case, you have to be able to take care of yourself to look after those you care for. As you said, all real friends will understand this anyway.

Raspberry, so sorry to hear things are getting you down. You sounded so positive before the weekend. You right about the unknown being scary. Our imaginations are usually far worse than the real situation. Hope DH is giving you lots of hugs.

Pickle, I have friends who have had (perfectly normal) long periods before and no issues. Might just make you very tired if still heavy. I would think eating something with iron in (eg. redmeat), along with some Vit C (like a glass of orange juice) to help you absorb the iron might be a good idea.

raspberrytipple · 06/02/2012 07:31

Morning,
I'm not sure re period either picks sorry. 10 days seems long but if it's your first one it is probably your body getting back to normal. I'd probably pop to the doctors though just in case

Well done on the SWI pearl! Very impressed!

Josie, you are so right to concentrate on you and only you :) for the time being, I've kind of come to that conclusion myself too yesterday, it's all about me from now on and nothing else. Had a complete break down yesterday and cried badly for three hrs in the morning and on and off through the day, just feeling very scare of the unknown at the moment and don't know quite how to cope with it. Think I'll feel better once I've got my op date as I'll be able to focus on that but who knows, I may just get worse! Also consequently feel like a bag of shite today and have to go to work in a bit, desperatly feel like I need a holiday but apart from bank hols we've nothing booked until end July!

I haven't been on the pill so I can't advise re. the 10 day period I'm afraid pickle. It sounds like good news that you are having one, even if it is a long 'un. I would recommend temping if you aren't already, to help figure out where you are at and when you are ovulating.

Sounds like a good plan to me Josie. Good luck :)

Picklestar · 05/02/2012 22:36

Completely agree Josie, sometimes in our life we have to put ourselves first. Hugs!

JosieSmith1 · 05/02/2012 22:27

Hi everyone, feeling a bit more positive at the moment. One positive to come out of this so far is that I have discovered how not to care what other people think! It's always been a big problem for me but I feel like I've earned the right to not care, and to be selfish, so I am. Everyone who knows me knows the next 2 months are all about me, and I'm going to look after myself, even if it means letting other people down, and doing all the things I want to do, and lots of things for me and DH to chill out. I'm still scared and worried but I'm taking the very good advice of face one day at a time. So far, I'm dreading weds when I get my meds, but there's no point ruining Mon and Tues worrying so I'm putting it out of my mind till Wed

Hope everyone is ok

Picklestar · 05/02/2012 21:45

Hi all, Hope you're all enjoying the snow, I managed to get to & from work today in the snow so proud of myself! :)

Been trying to follow the threads as best I can. So lovely that everyone's so open. I'm struggling at the mo, have been on the dreaded period for 10 days now, which is so much longer than normal. Although I only came off the pill in August, could this be my 1st proper period? Is 10 days too long? its also frustrating as I wana get going with the baby making! Confused

PearlFisher · 05/02/2012 18:31

*to be

PearlFisher · 05/02/2012 18:29

Hey all, not had time to post for a while - partly due to concerted SWI effort (which unfortunately ran out of steam a day or two before my temp rise darnit...). Currently CD25 of average 30 day cycle, so playing the waiting game.

Wanted to send hugs to josie . This may or may not help, but try to stay in the present and take things one step at a time, don't let your brain carry you too far into scary possible futures. Do nice soothing things that keep your mind in the now. You can do it, and you will get through this.

Yay to raspberry for pressure-free SFF, and [waves] for everyone else (cos too much has gone on since I first joined the thread and I can't remember it all...)

I'm with you all on the 'school were scaremongering' thing. Guess I can see why they do it cos some buggers people do fall at the drop of the hat, but really it just sets you up be to miserable in later life when it doesn't happen straight away. I was a (happy) accident, and remember as a teenager thinking that my mum's explanation that 'I thought it took a long time, like a year or so...' was really stupid. Well ha, life showed me...

Hippolyta20 · 05/02/2012 10:10

Thanks Raspberry.

I know what you mean about disclosing more than you would normally. Can't imagine ever meeting up with a group of ladies in the bar and straight away telling them the date I last saw AF!

Glad to hear you are having some fun at the moment anyway! Wink

No snow here yet but desparately hoping it won't hit us for a while. I have to travel away with work today (heading east). Have no desire to spend the night on the Motorway. Planning to take plenty of Brew and Biscuit. (slowly getting there with the smileys Smile.

raspberrytipple · 04/02/2012 13:30

Hello Hippolyta!

This place is indeed very supportive and there are days where I get home and think 'gaaaarrrggghhhhh I need to tell the frolickers'. It's not the same in RL, you just can't be as honest. For example, we can tell eachother far too much just as I am about to do.

I feel a little smug this morning. DH and I had a little sex drought after mid month of my last cycle, we've got to the point where sex feels like it's just to make a baby so a little stressful but after yesterday and the fact that we now know nothing is likely to happen until after the Lap & Dye we had some rather nice, short but sweet sex just for fun and intend to have lots more of it! I'm actually rather excited now!

Anyone else getting snow? We have, only light snow but it hasn't stopped all morning!

Hippolyta20 · 04/02/2012 11:55

Morning Smile. Just wanted to say fairly new to MN and struggling a bit with the emphasis and smileys so sorry if these go a bit wrong while getting the hang of it.

Also, feeling a bit nervous because I know I am a Newbie and don't know everyone very well. Also more of a Newbie to TTC.

If I am not giving very much advice for a while it is because I guess I don't feel very qualified for that yet and don't want to say something irratating like "it will be fine" as I know that drives me nuts!

As a bit of a "cover-all" I hope we will all have a happy ending and that everyone will cope with the circumstances they are in and that they have lots of lovely people around them for help and support.

So impressed with how lovely and supportive everyone is and inspiring to hear how strong other women are.

Feeling better now Grin

Hippolyta20 · 03/02/2012 21:04

Thank you all for the welcomes.

Glad your parents have other things to distract them [Ratate]. Sadly no such luck my end as would be first grand child!

Agree about sex-ed. Was very paranoid after that. Mind you, I suppose sensible from the young couple [Raspberry] saw today.

Hope my ovaries don't take too long to wake up after so long on the pill (16yrs!) - started on the pill early due to terrible period pains at school disrupting exams.

Nongoddess · 03/02/2012 19:16

Evening raspberry so pleased to know that the appointment went well and sounds really positive. Here's to progress!

All the best Josie Smile and to Ratata with the cramps and quease.

And, yes, cazbg, boo to those sex ed lessons. Plus I was overly influenced in my teens by reading 1950s/60s novels about women getting pregnant accidentally & condemned to a life of oppressed kitchen drudgery (Margaret Drabble, and Lynn Reid Banks, "The L-Shaped Room" among others) Those women always seemed to get pregnant just by sharing a taxi.

raspberrytipple · 03/02/2012 18:27

x posts - thanks for thinking of me ratata, my mamouth post should tell you mostly everything!

OP posts:
raspberrytipple · 03/02/2012 18:26

Evening gang.
It's all over and I survived - my appointment that is! Nearly had a little cry before hand but I stopped being a wimp and it all went ok. Consultant was happy with with the shape/size etc of my ovaries when he dildo cam'ed me. I've had the day '3' test today (even though I'm day 5 which he said didn't matter) and have to go back in two weeks for the day 20.

I have to be honest he showed me the ovaries and said 'ah yes, couple of follicles getting ready to get going' but I couldn't see what he was looking at even though he traced over it with his finger to point it out. I had some swabs taken although I can't remember what for. Because one of my earlier blood tests was a bit higher than they would expect he has said he suspects fibroids and possibly a touch of endo. I can't remember now what the explanation was but he seemed to think that because of another condition that I have that my tubes are likely to be blocked.

DH's sperm sample is apparently a shade under what they would consider normal (literally by 2 or 3%) so they are re-running that test again as it was over 3 months since he was tested.

So the upshot is I am now on the waiting list for a lap & dye which I will have by the end of April and if they find anything they will fix it there and then.

Very relieved I think but also anxious about the op and whether it will all worked but at least we have progress people!

Sorry for the me me me but I've been in such a state, I'm just pleased it's done.

josie everything you are feeling is completely normal and yes, I think we women are the strongest in the world! If we can get through all this we can get through anything :)

Welcome hippolyta hope your stay is a short one.

I definitely think the next thread needs to have a 'school lied to us about getting pregnant if a boy so much as looks at us' theme in the title Cazbg . We've all been a bit Hmm about what we were told at school, which was generally all useless and all lies!

That said, there was a 16 year old there with her dad and 17 year old emo boyfriend for their first scan while we were waiting. Not that I should judge but For FUCK SAKE.

OP posts:
Ratata · 03/02/2012 18:26

So sorry to hear you are having a hard time josie I hope you have lots of supportive people in your life to help you through this. It's not the end though, we all have our fingers and toes crossed for you. Big hugs.

Cazbg totally agree that what they teach you at school is irritating, I figured I would be pregnant in the first month! It makes you wonder how 'accidents' happen, if it's so hard when you want them! Makes no sense. Well it probably does since you are usually lot more fertile in teens. But hey ho.

Welcome hippolyta We told my parents we are TTC but my brother and his partner are due their baby in about 3 or 4 weeks so that will keep them busy for a while :)

How did things go today raspberry was thinking of you.

I will be testing in 6 days, so next Thursday. Not sure when I'm due on as came off pill and have had one period so far which took 6 weeks to arrive. So I'm testing on day 28. Got some symptoms but could be AF. Slightly sore boobs, crampy, feeling queasy sometimes, heartburn. Will see!

Cazbg · 03/02/2012 16:50

Thanks for the warm welcome. It is really nice just to be able to chat to other people going through the same thing.
I am just angry at the school system at the moment - they drum into you that you need contraception or you will get pregenent and you are taught the idea that no contraception = baby straight away! Just iritating!
Went to see a friend today who is my motivation - she tried for 3 years no success, then had one round of IVF that failed and 1 month later she fell naturally and now has a two week old little boy... so miracles do happen!
Keep rushing home from work to see if my gynie letter has come. I am pretty sure they will put me straight on Clomid (which is what the doctor said they would do) just frustrating that the doctor cant just do that!
Well have fab weekends : )

Hippolyta20 · 03/02/2012 16:22

Thanks Josie. Fingers crossed for you Smile.

I know what you mean about the range of emotions. There is so much pressure on women to just produce a baby like we pick them up from Tescos or something!

My FIL knows we are TTC and talking like the baby will be hear in the next few months already. Great he is excited but probably shouldn't have shared our plans so soon. Feel like I need to "perform".

He is also saying "my grandson" because he really wants a boy (again no pressure Hmm). I'm sure he would love a girl too but still a bit off-putting.

JosieSmith1 · 03/02/2012 08:27

Today I am so far mostly feeling:

A little sad
A little scared
A little worried
THAT I WILL NOT BE BEATEN

Hugs to everyone. We truly are the strongest women in the world Thanks

P.S. Welcome Hippolyta20 (waves)

Hippolyta20 · 02/02/2012 20:49

Hello All. Just found this thread and would love to join on.

TTC for first time. Been discussing with DH for the last 6 months but started actively trying from 1 Jan (New years resolution!)

Was feeling nervous earlier today as a month off the pill now and not come on yet but from an earlier thread looks like 2-3 months fairly standard.

Great to have a place to safely obsess about discuss TTC Smile

raspberrytipple · 02/02/2012 19:39

oh Josie I know that kind of crying :( It's horrible and I usually end up feeling or being sick and then feeling absolutely dreadful the next day. Perhaps while all this is going you should should seek some counselling to help you through, it's a traumatic time and you need some good support? Could you speak to your GP?

My pleasure on the welcome front Nongoddess. I do think that zumba atones for everything chocolatey!!!

Hope the ultrasound goes well and you get some answers Evil I suppose having 'undiagnosed infertility' is almost as bad as finding something wrong, if not worse because if somethings wrong at least you can fix it or decide on a route to take, if they can't pin it down its just left in limbo where we kind of feel at the moment. This TTC malarky is just a nightmare isn't it.

Well, still bricking it about tomorrow. So worried that he's just going to say 'you just need to try harder' and send us away. I know I'm going to dream about it tonight and I've not been able to concentrate on anything at all these last few days :( oh well, wish me luck!

OP posts:
Nongoddess · 02/02/2012 19:31

Thanks raspberry for your greetings! Much appreciated, feels good to be a part of things. And somehow a bit more constructive than slowly obsessing on my own... Still in the "oooh, could be?" bit of my cycle, but no high hopes this month. And it seems like so many of my colleagues are off on maternity leave! Envy

Sorry, Josie to hear how difficult things are for you. Horribly upsetting and you sound like you are doing so well. Really brave. Keep going and good luck.

And Evil all the best with the ultrasound - good news about the HSG!

Now off to zumba... will it atone for earlier Quality Street?

JosieSmith1 · 02/02/2012 08:05

Good news about your HSG results Evil although yes it does now leave you with the question of why! Hoep you get some answers soon

Raspberry good news about hopefully moving soon! Thanks for telling me about your friend. I won't have that chance of being able to get pg naturally while waiting for IVF because it starts in a couple of weeks and AF is due tomorrow (just another kick while I'm down). I fear that if the IVF fails, they won't try anything else Sad Although I'm considering asking to try again even if I don't respond because I'm sure someone said they know someone who didn't respond first time but did the next time

You should have seen the state of me last night. Has anyone ever cried till you can't feel like you can't breathe? I have now. Then I looked through the IVF stuff, got really panicky and upset again and sometimes I honestly don't think I can go through it, it's such an awful process. Then other times I feel stronger and like I can do it, it's all very confusing and upsetting, I'm cycling very rapidly through a range of emotions that I don't understand

maamalady · 01/02/2012 20:12

Josie so sorry you're feeling so down about it all. It's shit, isn't it? There are only a few people who know me and DH are TTC, but thankfully they are all quite ok about it and don't ask too much. I find the most depressing (but obviously wonderful as well) thing is that my friends who are the same age as me are having babies left right and centre which is unsurprising, wonderful, and I seethe with jealousy when I'm on my own...

The HSG was normal, by the way, forgot to mention that when I reported back. This is a good thing I suppose as it means I'm physically ok. So why am I STILL not pregnant?! I'm having an ultrasound next week to examine my ovaries etc so maybe that will find something. I'm fully expecting that to be normal too and for us to be left high and dry with an "unexplained" diagnosis...
