Pinkie29 · 10/03/2012 19:30

Hi mrsmellow Smile same here, happened to my brother and they're due in july and almost everyone who had one recently it 'just happened' pleased for them all obv but annoying when you put all the effort in and get nowhere :( x

mrsmellow · 10/03/2012 15:04

Hello all,
feeling a bit sorry for myself today - just off the phone with a very close friend of mine who is coming to stay in a couple of weeks - she's 6-7 weeks pregnant , which is obviously great news, but they weren't even trying! She'd come off the pill and was using condoms unsuccessfully obviously and was planning to start trying later on in the year for a variety of reasons, but jeez... how unfair is that!
I'm really happy for her - she's completely shell shocked and doesn't quite believe it - but stamps foot really Envy

Pinkie29 · 10/03/2012 11:40

Forgot to add I'd had a long ache lower right side which felt like an ov pain, will go for it again tonight Grin

Pinkie29 · 10/03/2012 08:22

Oh man this is hard work where do ppl find the time?! If we don't get it this month I'll start temping properly x

CaveMum · 09/03/2012 21:23

It's definitely possible, the OPKs only tell you that LH is surging. You can have a surge and not ovulate. The only way to be sure if you have ovulated or not is to chart your temperatures throughout your cycle.

They recommend having sex every other day throughout your cycle to make sure you cover all bases.

Get cracking! (and probably keep going for another few days too)

Pinkie29 · 09/03/2012 20:57

I'd had what looked like positive ones a few days before I thought id ovd, tho with my cycle bring quite long may ovulate late?

CaveMum · 09/03/2012 20:50

Pinkie when you say you thought you had already ov'd do you mean you just assumed you had, or that you'd had previous positive OPKs or a spike in temperatures?

Many women seem to find, once they start paying close attention to their cycles, that they ovulate sooner/later than they'd first thought. My thoughts would be that if your getting a line you definitely need to get down to business!

Pinkie29 · 09/03/2012 20:38

Daft question, thought I was a week past ov, had a vey bad pain lower right tum so done an ovp and it's positive? Odd but gonna dtd tonight! Grin x

Picklestar · 09/03/2012 19:07

Hi guys, sorry I've been a bit absent, been on holiday :)! Went with a couple of friends and their babies, the whole camp was teaming with babies either that or I noticed it more! Was good & we baby sat sometimes but made me want one of our own so bad!! we made love every day as reminded us how much we want one! Want to go on holiday next year with my own little one!

Waves to pinkie, good luck!! I'm a bit of a blabber mouth about ttc! Told some friends at work, but soon most people will know as we do lots of x rays & I can't do them (as wont know if preggers) & have told best friends. We are going in to our 3rd month now.

:) xx

Pinkie29 · 09/03/2012 12:13

Hi Cavemum/Josie, your all so nice Smile well am currently 8 days past ov I think, I say think as my cycle varies from 35 to 42 days and has been as long as 56 in the past so hard to know when I ov last 2 have been 33 days. Going to buy a clear blue monitor as the poas are hard to interpret sometimes Sad af due 15th boobs usually very tender the week before but had nothing yet?

Basically we want to keep quiet as I'm likely to have pcos tick all the boxes minus excess hair! It's hard too with almost everyone we know having 'accidents' or the old 'I was on the pill it mustn't have worked' trying to maintain patience and when af arrives I've been ok just think fresh start etc! Decided we'll give it six months then see the doc if nothing happens.

JosieSmith1 · 09/03/2012 08:51

Thank you all so much for your kind words Smile I was having a major wobble yesterday, but today I feel so much stronger! Last night?s injection was a bloody doddle, after all that whinging! Grin It?s funny how when I?m not worked up about it, it doesn?t hurt as much and doesn?t bruise Hmm I?m sure there?s a lesson in that somewhere Grin So now I?m almost excited to start the 2 a day next week, at least I?ll be making progress, and the gaps between each stage get smaller

MrsMellow you?re totally right, it?s better to try and fail than not try at all. I?m usually a quitter Blush but not when it comes to something this important.

Thanks Raspberry I?m going to keep going, I couldn?t bear the thought of stopping now, as much as I say I want to Smile

Thanks for the pom poms Cave Grin Good luck for your blood test

Welcome Pinkie and thank you so much, you almost made me cry! It?s the hormones I tell you Grin I started out not telling anyone but my best friend (yes that one!) then as it got harder I told mam, then she told the rest of my family (thanks mam), then my work admin colleagues found out (seeing as I literally couldn?t stop crying when one of them told me she was pg), then I got bullied and moved offices, now all my admin colleagues there know (but this makes it easier for appts etc), we told ILs and now most of the people where I keep my horse know (I told them when we started IVF because I didn?t like having this big secret over my head, and it makes it easier when I?m having a bad day ? people know why and don?t continually ask what?s wrong) but it?s totally up to you who you tell, sometimes I wish no-one knew because then they wouldn?t ask how it?s going. I would advise at this stage don?t tell too many people unless you?re 100% sure you won?t regret it, because you can?t take it back.

CaveMum · 09/03/2012 07:14

Hi Pinkie and welcome! Some people seem to like to tell everyone they are ttc, but I agree that it adds far too much pressure! We originally only told 1 person - my best friend who is also ttc and struggling. We then chose to tell my parents after the Drs decided I needed an operation under general anaesthetic to check for blocked tubes, etc.

All that aside, here's hoping your stay is a short one Wink, but don't be afraid to ask any questions - we've a wide range of experience on this thread so someone is bound to know the answer!

In Cave-Watch, I've decided to have my Day 21 blood test on Monday, it's due tomorrow but hospital is not open for bloods at the weekend. I'm 90% sure I've ovulated, certainly Fertility Friend says I have, but I figure I'll get a better progesterone reading if I wait a few more days.

[waves to everyone]

Pinkie29 · 08/03/2012 21:51

Can I join?? Currently on 2nd month trying ttc our 1st baby, top secret from all friends an family as I'm worried we'll have problems do front want added pressure 'why aren't you pregnant yet??' etc! Not read all 650 messages just theist few, Josie you clearly are an amazing strong woman Smile hang on in there. Sorry to hear about your friend, not sure what to advise other than I've known a few pregnant women lose the plot completely! One was ridiculous you'd have thought she invented pregnancy or that it was some unknown illness! x

CaveMum · 08/03/2012 21:24

We're here for you Josie rooting away, waving pom poms, etc.

raspberrytipple · 08/03/2012 21:23

Keep going Josie, the fear of the unknown is completely crippling sometimes. I think all of us who have been trying for a long time know that awful feeling and it's completely understandable to be feeling it more now when you are going through so much. xx

OP posts:
mrsmellow · 08/03/2012 20:37

Agree mtc76 - get it checked out.

josie sorry to hear that you've had a wobble, hang on in there, I understand your fear, but better to try and fail than never try at all. You just never know what will happen.

JosieSmith1 · 08/03/2012 13:27

MCT76 you should probably have that pain seen to, it doesn't sound good! I know what you mean about everyone seeming to be pg at the moment. There's definitely a baby boom, what a time to be TTCing unsucessfully Sad

I'm afraid to report that I'm struggling at the moment. Had a bit of a wobble last night and almost told DH to put the needle away as I honestly didn't think I could do it. It hurt a bit, and I cried a lot. I cried from the moment I got home from work. I'm scared I'm going through all of this for nothing and I'm scared that if it doesn't work I won't be able to put myself through another cycle, and that will be the end of my dream to start a family. I'm not trying to put you off MCT, but at times it's a lot harder than you imagine. I thought it would be hard, but I didn't realise how hard. Worth a try though, I still believe that

MissMedusa I hope you can get that cyst sorted, it sounds nasty!

Raspberry I hope your move goes well, exciting!

MCT76 · 07/03/2012 15:01

Hi everyone,

Josie: it's interesting to read about the process you're going through as it looks like we'll be embarking upon it very soon. I did not know it took 7-8 weeks! I hope that you're finding it a bit more bearable now.

MissMedusa: sorry to hear about the dermoid. Do you know when you're likely to have it removed and whether you will need to wait a while after that before ttcing again? I had a huge ovarian cyst removed just over 3 years ago through keyhole surgery and I thought it would help me to get PG but it hasn't although I reckon I've got other problems too which I hope can be detected and treated soon.

I rang the nurse yesterday to ask whether she'd had a chance to speak to the consultant about my "weird anatomy" and the possibility of having a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy but she said she couldn't as he was very busy and asked me to ring again tomorrow...this time, for her own good, I hope she'll have an answer for me or else I will have to give her a piece of my mind as I'm not prepared to have to pay for the tests privately on top of IVF costs which are already quite steep...

At the moment, I am on the dreaded 2 week wait and not enjoying it at all...I'm not sure why but I've had this horrible lower back pain on my right side since Monday and I can barely move without screaming in agony. I've tried ice and heat patches and it soothes it for a while but it is refusing to go away so I feel a bit useless and unable to do much. I keep thinking of the finishing line but I can't help feeling a little sorry for myself when I look at the papers/magazines and everyone seems to be pregnant at the moment! I wish it was contagious!

MissMedusa · 07/03/2012 11:54

It's been a bad news day all around here. I found out that the dermoid on my ovary is bigger than we thought so will definitely have to have that removed.

Also, I have two friends who got PG around the same time. I don't think either of them is past 8 weeks yet but because they are drinkers and smokers it became obvious to us right away when they were'nt partaking and they soon after confirmed it. One of them has now miscarried. Somehow it seems even worse for her since the other one is still ok. I know that I couldn't help but get excited when I thought maybe the three of us could be PG together and was sorely disappointed when AF showed up. I can only imagine how much worse it is for the friend who miscarried :(

mrsmellow · 07/03/2012 10:48

Thanks for explaining Josie - I had no idea that it was so complicated, I'm not surprised you want it over and done with - fingers crossed for success.

cave - am very impressed that your DH made the mammoth journey -I guess there were other advantages Wink

raspberrytipple · 06/03/2012 22:26

Evening all, been quiet in here lately. Im trying to cut back on my Internet ttc obsession but it's not going very well! Nothing very exciting going on in my world unfortunately. Hoping to move at the end of the month so I think I need to start packing maybe :/

Very impressed with your DH cave that is true commitment! Fingers crossed this is the month :)

josie hope the injections are going well and are less traumatic, I hadn't realised it was such a long process, I thought maybe a couple of weeks! I've got a lot to learn obviously!

Hi everyone else! xx

OP posts:
JosieSmith1 · 06/03/2012 16:27

At the moment MrsMellow I'm having my natural cycle 'switched off' so I'm down-regging as I'm reliably informed it's called. Basically they need a blank canvas to work from, so at the moment the injections are to make sure my ovaries aren't producing any follicles and my womb lining is thin, then I'll have a second lot of injections, as well as continuing this lot, to make my ovaries produce loads of follicles (in theory anyway) and then they'll take them out and fertilise them, and then I'll start pessaries to build up a thick womb lining. Overall it'll take about 7-8 weeks, currently on week 3 but from next week it's all systems go with follicle stimulating and scans, I just want it over and done with

CaveMum · 06/03/2012 16:19

Thanks for the support ladies! DH did come home last night, bless him he had to get up at 3.30am to get back to base in time to get a lift to Wales for a meeting. We live in East Anglia!

Waiting to see if we've timed it right. The OPKs are negative now, but of course the devil on my shoulder is telling me it might have been a false surge and I haven't ovulated after all. Will know more from my temps in the next day or so.

I did manage to pick up a sex-related injury! After our Sunday session I had a sore neck and frozen shoulder which is only just getting back to normal now! We weren't swinging from the chandelier or anything!

Josie, sounds like you've got yourself a good system to help keep you fairly calm and focused. I really do have everything crossed for you Smile

mrsmellow · 06/03/2012 16:07

Thanks josie - I'm confused (and ignorant Blush ) but you were having injections - what was that for? I thought it would be to stimulate eggs that they would harvest and then fertilise and then implant? but was it for something else - do they do that over 2 cycles?
Glad you have a mechanism for coping - I always find counting things helps too..can be a bit overwhelming otherwise I'm sure.

JosieSmith1 · 06/03/2012 09:01

MrsMellow I hope your cycles are sorting themselves out. Loving the denial joke Grin

Hope you're enjoying yourself Cave Grin

I've started bleeding so the symptoms have calmed down a bit and I feel a bit better. I'm counting everything down, x weeks till the end of the cycle, x days till I start stims, x days until I know if I'm responding to stims, x injections left. It helps to see how far I've come
