iggi999 · 30/11/2011 20:39

Hello, wishing I was coming to the meet, would be lovely to meet you all.
Told some friends when out for dinner tonight - find it hard being asked stuff about when I'm going to stop working Sad Other people are a thousand times more positive about my pg than I am! Think I'm going to book a private scan for next week, when I'd be 15 wks. Wore a maternity dress today for first time, made me look enormous! But that's quite nice.

Thinking of Scooterchaser Sad

Free dress sounds lush, will have a look in a minute!

I also echo all the sentiments about having each other to talk to. I am finding this a lot easier than before mainly down to all of you!!!

duggs1976 · 30/11/2011 18:45

Thanks digi. We need these kinds of reminders. I guess we were also " supposed to be having kids in our early 20's biologically - don't know about anyone else but I hardly knew WHERE I was during most of my 20's let alone where I was headed. My auntie - not a blood relative - told me out of the blue she had 7 miscarriages, 3 still births and she is a mother of 3 -40 somethings and a grandmother to 5. She was a nurse and am sure started in her early 20's but she was quite matter of fact and said back then they just said wait 6 mths an try again. Not an awful lot of progression over past 40 yrs then but her eyes widened when I explained about the cocoon thread. She said her mother hardly knew let alone anyone talking about it. I guess women over the ages have had to carry many burdens and I have to say -later life stage families (late 20's onwards) - and other modern afflictions -PCOS etc) are def the curse of our generation.
BUT we r lucky enough to have got this far with the best attention in the world and each other so we can smile to ourselves for that. Strong women the lot of us xGrin

digitalgirl · 30/11/2011 18:10

Ah and Charlotte St Hotel is minutes from my office so I'll be there super early too!!!!

Comedyworks · 30/11/2011 18:09

Just got home from work and am so very very sorry to read about your loss scooter - thinking of you x

Hi to everyone else and very much with you regarding the very big space these pregnancies / TTC are taking up in our brains. Amazing we hold down jobs really!

Sorry if I've said it before but free I've had a lot of pain on lower left to the point where around 7 weeks I thought it was ectopic but was told that it could partly be caused by constipation - which made a lot of sense for me!

Looking forward to meeting some of you next week - I won't be able to get in until closer to eight I think x

digitalgirl · 30/11/2011 18:09

Have been trying to get my head around the stats and at a glance, despite the recent tragic events - we're still doing rather well for a bunch of women with killer wombs.
I think iggi in particular is flying the flag for those who are embarking on their second pregnancy on treatment. Without wanting to put any extra pressure on you iggs getting to second trimester is an amazing achievement and something that all of the women in the first trimester look forward to.

I also wanted to say to those worrying about miscarrying around the 8-9 week mark, my last mc was detected at 8+3 with the baby measuring 8+1. I wasn't on the treatment, but if I was it wouldn't have made any difference because the karyotyping revealed the baby had triploidy - a chromosomal problem. There was nothing I could have done to prevent that from happening. And I think that's the key thing to try and hold onto - you are all doing everything possible to make your pregnancies work. Sometimes that's not enough, but it won't be because of anything you are or aren't doing. As difficult as that is to accept - it means that no amount of worrying wil make the slightest bit of difference.

I know how hard it is getting through those first few early weeks. It's really unsettling when one of us miscarries, especially when they're 'close' to you in pregnancy terms. When Georgie (from the first thread) miscarried I felt the rug had been pulled from under me. She was only a week behind me - I felt that the same could easily happen to me. But it didn't and I'm so so grateful...and I hope that I too can be one of those that offer you all hope that there is life beyond the first trimester. If it's not too unsympathetic to say, I felt the baby kick lots today. And it really made me smile that this baby is reminding me all the time that they're still there.

Stogan · 30/11/2011 18:08

So gutted I can't come to the meet, would mean a days travel for meSad

Hope u all have a fab time and can't wait to hear how it all went ! X

Arianrhod · 30/11/2011 18:07

Oh hot Ribena, that's been a fav drink of mine since I was a child. Yet you mention it to most people and their noses screw up like I'd just suggested they eat marmite and dairylea on toast. Which I can also recommend Grin

duggs1976 · 30/11/2011 17:46

Following on from the more positive vibe - those up for the meet up next Tuesday how about Charlotte street hotel - in Charlotte street - googe st tube. It does afternoon tea as well as wine so caters for all. I'll be there from 6 ish so folks can join anytime.

Those further away we will fill u in with updates. X

freelancegirl · 30/11/2011 17:40

There's a lot of mentalling going on around here today isn't there! Aggh! And the most frustrating thing is all we can do it sit and wait :( . We sit and wait to get pregnant, when we are pregnant we sit and wait and wait some more.

Although I guess, as I keep trying to tell myself, following the treatment in the first place from TTC to pregnancy we are doing all we can. I think we all go through the 'what if it is something else other than NKC' and also 'what if the meds aren't working' thing (I particularly get the latter) battery but I guess we just have to try to trust in the treatment. Easier said than done. Am still in mentalling mode along with the rest of us it seems.

Choccy it is weird about you and I having weird dates. I have looked at the list and tried to work it out before. I was guessing I ovulated around Day 14, but this time I was actually only guessing. I guess (a bit of a running theme...) it is because the whole due date estimating thing (lets pretend for a moment we are in the 'oooh I am pregnant, that means I am having a baby on xx a date' crowd) is not really an exact science and we might all give birth within a couple of weeks either side of any due dates. Gosh, wouldn't it be nice to think 'I'm having a baby' rather than 'When is this going to go wrong'...

On a lighter note, today I have discovered hot Ribena and can't believe I haven't tried it before! I also bought a dress from Zara. It's a snakeskin print shift dress with a black panel down the middle (slimming) and an elasticated bit around the waist (handy for hiding any bloat). Felt I needed some retail therapy. If anyone needs a party dress do go in and see it. It has longish sleeves too so reasonably practical (well, as practical as a snakeskin print dress can be).

batteryhen · 30/11/2011 16:40

I am thinking of scooter lots today too :(

I worry about the whole 12 week thing - if the placenta is supossed to take over around 9 weeks - why did I lose both my last pregnancies at 10 and 12 weeks? I worry that it's not my NKC causing the problem and the the programme won't work for me. I realise also I need to get a grip as I am not even pg yet ....x

Cheerfulcharlie · 30/11/2011 16:28

Thanks for the update free .sorry I'm on ny phone and can't work out how to copy and paste. I read a study they did on intralipids and the NK levels were still reduced after 4 weeks in all the women. Many more had reduced levels for several weeks more too. I had my first intralipid at 3w 5 days, so was just going to go 4 weeks later but I doubt a few days earlier or later would do any harm.

ChoccyPud · 30/11/2011 16:19

And I agree with you Ari re dating I was saying that exact same thing to dh last night wrt free's LMP being earlier than mine but ov later and her having seen a hb yday... Total headfuck Confused

Arianrhod · 30/11/2011 16:14

Agreed choccy, I am relieved in a way that we do have to go for such frequent appts. I cannot think past next week, one week at a time.

Arianrhod · 30/11/2011 16:11

Yes free, completely distracted today :(

Was just thinking, it's weird how we get dated, going on LMP rather than OV date where known. I know some people obviously don't know their OV date, but where they do, you would think that would be used? I'm apparently classified as 6+0 today because my LMP was 19/11, but I OVd 3 days late on CD17 rather than CD14, so on 04/11, which surely will put my bean (assuming there is one) back on dates? In other words, come next week at my scan when figures say I will be 7+0, in actual fact little bean will only be .. what ... 6+4? So less chance of seeing heartbeat anyway? sigh As has been said truly so many times, this really is a headf*ck ...

ChoccyPud · 30/11/2011 16:03

Forgive the pun but I really think we just have to take baby steps towards the safer (but still not guaranteed safe) ground of post 12 weeks or at least 10ish when the placenta's taken over. I think my brain now refuses to try to compute anything more than the next scan/intralipids whatever. Which is why it's good IMO that Mr S regime requires us to go for appts every other week at least.

Thinking of Scooterchaser :(

OP posts:
freelancegirl · 30/11/2011 15:51

Cross posts Cheerful. Am also thinking, that if there is something there and ok at the next scan, to ask for intralipids at 7-something weeks. I just feel I need to get in there quickly! As silly as that might sound.

OP posts:
freelancegirl · 30/11/2011 15:49

We must be a funny lot to encounter mustn't we. Mind you, I think my GP is used to be me now. I think she winced when I told her I was pregnant again! She did say congratulations but I guess she realises that's not always the appropriate thing for us. Poor you, regarding the sad death of your dad Puree. My DH's Dad died around 5 years ago and I do remember what an awful toll it took on the relationship too (as well as the huge grief and impact on life in general of course)

Ari, Choccy, Cheerful it is indeed so worrying to hear of things going wrong at 9 weeks for you before. I guess it means that good scans at this point don't mean anything.

Is anyone else even more distracted by this whole thing than normal today? I am thinking about it almost every minute. Very difficult to concentrate on anything else. I have had a weird soreness in the left hand side (ovary ish) that I keep telling myself is the corpeus luteum but half of me is insisting it is 'something attacking the baby'. I also fell off (albeit a very short one) stool in Costa earlier, which is not a good thing to be doing either.

Waves to duggs, Stogan, Sue, Digi, Brownie, Snoopy, Kittens, Coconut, comedy, Hopeful, Iggi, Coley, Cherry, Battery and anyone else who is about xx

OP posts:
Cheerfulcharlie · 30/11/2011 15:48

Pure, I'm really surprised your counsellor was surprised you weren't excited. It's actually very difficult to get excited about something that quite frankly has a pretty high chance of ending in heartbreak. Not getting excited is self preservation. I believe it would almost be dangerous to get too excited as the fall from being on a high is so much worse. Anyway, plenty of time for excitement later in the pregnancy.

I suppose we all protect outlrselves in different ways but I wouldn't have thought lack of excitement would be an unusual response in the circumstances.

I decided to move my scan to thurs 8th. I should be 7 wks by then and if all is ok then will go ahead with intralipids 5 days later. If it's a dodgy scan and I need to give it another week for a re-scan that should still be ok for the intralipids if I do need to go ahead with them.

pureequeen · 30/11/2011 14:55

appalling spelling. this makes me realise how much I rely on autocorrect at work...

pureequeen · 30/11/2011 14:55

ari what you (and everyone else) says is so true. My husband and i have been having relationship counselling (as my dad's recent death and all these mc have taken a pretty horrendous toll on our marriage) and the counseller could not believe how "unemotional" and "unexcited" we were about our last positive pregancy test. She thought we needed to contact the miscarraige association for specialist conselling - I had a look on their webiste and they refer you to Relate - which was who the counseller was with!

At least everyone here can understand the cautious day by day (minute by minute) approach...

Arianrhod · 30/11/2011 14:14

Yes, I've been thinking exactly the same as you both, free and choccy ... how fragile this whole process is. 9 weeks is my danger point too, having had two scans both at 9+4, one where the baby had died 3 weeks earlier (and I started spotting sometime in week 7 but didn't know what it was) and one where the baby had died just 5 days earlier. The 7 week scan I'm kind of neutral about - there will either be something there and growing, or there won't. But it won't mean anything much, since I got past this point last time and it still went wrong.

It's just the frightening thought that you can have a scan and see baby with heartbeat, then a mere few hours later it all just stops, falls apart. We all are in that horrible position where we know anything can go wrong any time, but to have such reassurance cruelly dashed in just the space of a few hours - as choccy says, how cruel this whole thing is.

As you say free, and exactly as I was discussing with my acupuncturist just last night, I'm taking this one week at a time, one scan at a time, and looking no further than what is happening in the coming week. I can't at this stage imagine getting past 9 weeks, and I'm really not trying to look that far ahead. IF it happens, I will consider myself blessed beyond measure - but I'm only too painfully aware of how easily it can all crumble. Again.

ChoccyPud · 30/11/2011 13:38

I've been thinking the same as you free about how quickly it can all be ripped away from us. It's a wobbly enough time as it is and it's so hard to not spend the whole time panicking and stay neutral (still can't quite say I'm optimistic about this pg, it almost feels like tempting fate to even think I'll get to 8/9/12 weeks... ). I've got no plans to see GP until at least 8 wks for instance.

I guess I'm just being thankful that there's been no more spotting and just waiting for Sat. I only saw a sac at 6wks earlier this year so don't have anything to live up to in that sense- if it's in the right place and not def bad news I'll be ok with that. anything more, or a hb, and I'll be dancing around for the day. Wouldn't change or guarantee anything as we know only too well but it's a step to tick off and keeps the hope up.

Thank feck we've got each other I don't know what state I'd be in now without you guys. I hope scooters out there lurking and knows we're all thinking of her. I've been teary so much today reading the posts. Awful just awful news. So cruel this process is. :(
