I thought it took a while?

ImJustABloke but ... I thought getting pregnant took a while? We've only just started trying and she's pregnant after a week. This might sound ridiculous, because I should be glad that we're able to conceive, but I was really looking forward to being woken up at 4am because she was ovulating, or slipping home for a quicky in our lunch breaks. Not just because I wanted more sex (although, yeah to be fair, I did) but also because I don't feel like we've earnt it if that makes any sense?
Do I need help for feeling like this?

it would still be early, but a sensitive test might pick it up.

OP, did you see the test, or did your DW just tell you that's what it said?

LoveInAColdClimate · 16/11/2011 15:38

But to get a positive test on the 11th after sex on the 3rd would be really early still. I got a positive 11 days after ovulation, using a super-sensitive 10ml test, but had had a negative at 9 and 10 days (yes, I know, sorry, Lissie, if you're reading this Blush).

I now feel really bad for the OP, having come on for a stealth boast and now worrying about paternity Sad.

If I was out of order before, then I apologise.

nickelbabe · 16/11/2011 15:20

the 3rd or 4th might work for you.
13 days - especially if her cycle is fewer than 28 days (26 days would give her an ovulation of 13 days ago)

ImJustABloke · 16/11/2011 15:18

we did it before we went away, but we weren't trying and used protection.
we decided while i was away to start trying.
I left on Fri 21st Oct, and I came back on Weds 2nd Nov.

In my mind if she had gotten pregnant before, say the 20th or something, that would make her almost 4 weeks.
If she got pregnant on the 3rd or 4th, she'd be up to 13 days pregnant, right?
If she got pregnant on the 7th or 8th she could be up to 9 days pregnant right?

Or am i completely missing something here?
The test thing says accurate within 4 days of your period?

Or are you just trying to confuse or provoke me like those 'masterful detectives' previously :-/ sighs

yes, if were away 2 weeks before, then the test could just be saying 1-2 weeks, when really it's 2+ weeks - when did you do it before you went away?

LoveInAColdClimate · 16/11/2011 14:58

Could you have conceived before you went away and it's just that she's further along than you think (and that the test indicates)?

ImJustABloke · 16/11/2011 14:53

oh this is going to sound ridiculous and the cogs are already turning in my head, because no i was away for the past 2 weeks. must have been the 3rd then. don't ask me when her period is meant to be, i dont think i know for sure, but i think it's generally around the middle of the month (?)

The very earliest you can get a test positive is really 8 or 9 days after ovulation

So even taking the 3rd as conception, a positive test on day 11 (and those clear blue 1/2 week jobs are less sensitive and only work at about 11/12 days after ovulation)

Did you have no sex before the 3rd? You may have conceived earlier than you think

LoveInAColdClimate · 16/11/2011 14:51

Oh, plus those tests which tell you how long ago you conceived are some of the least sensitive out there, as someone said above, I think. So the chances of a positive test that early are even slimmer.

LoveInAColdClimate · 16/11/2011 14:49

Well, if you conceived on the 3rd, it would be very, very early to get a positive test 8 days later. And, obviously, even earlier and less likely if you conceived on one of the other days. Most people don't. But there are exceptions, some people (but very few) do get a positive result that early.

Ariesgirl · 16/11/2011 14:47

No. Those dates do not add up.

Sex on those dates would not give you a positive result for longer than that. You are right to be confused.

ImJustABloke · 16/11/2011 14:46

she also took a test on the 7th or 8th, which i'm sure said not pregnant, and one yesterday which again said 1-2 weeks?

OP posts:
ImJustABloke · 16/11/2011 14:45

right i'm not being funny, and most of you seem to be more interested in flaming, but someone help me out now because i am starting to get a little worried/confused.

the test said (as it says on the website):
Pregnant 1-2 weeks.
Which they say means
You are pregnant and you conceived 1-2 weeks ago

and the doctor will date her at 3-4 weeks

We had sex on the 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th. and she took the test on the 11th, which said 1-2 weeks.

To me the dates add up, but am i being just a thick bloke here, or does it not and i should seriously be questioning this?

farfallarocks · 16/11/2011 14:44

love I was about to suggest the same thing, I must admit

Especially as though conception indicator things are some of the least sensitive tests out there

hmmmmmm
